One loss against a really tough ravens team and for some reason the sky is falling now. This is a good team and with Herbert under center anything is possible. WC race is what the ceiling was for this team this year and they are on route to do that.
@Jkev245 күн бұрын
I think this game showed the Chargers have the bones to be good, but they have some obvious weaknesses. They're good enough to upset a good team, but you shouldn't put money on them right now. They desperately need a WR1 (Ladd is very solid WR2, but he can't be your best receiver unless you have 2 other guys of his caliber also on the roster - then it can be receiver by committee). Interior offensive line is still very poor. Herbert doesn't have any room to step up on way too many drop backs. Defensively, linebackers could be improved and it would be nice to bring in an elite CB, but they're not necessarily bad in those areas. They're like C+ to B- in those areas, they're serviceable and shouldn't outright cost you a game. I think some of the issues on defense are exasperated by the fact that the offense struggles to stay on the field. The defense is just straight up getting tired by the offense going 3 and out. Chargers don't have a go-to deep ball threat right now, and it's essentially wasting Herbert's arm talent if you don't have a guy that can reliably get open deep and make a contested catch. While I know why they didn't make this move at the trade deadline, this offense would be SO MUCH BETTER if they had gotten Tee Higgins. That would have opened up the game more for Ladd and even QJ (though last night makes me think he might be mentally done. That first drop clearly ruined his confidence and played a big factor on the next two drops).

This was a great game for the most part. Some sus officiating and some injuries helped sway it a bit. I think the biggest thing was that the Ravens PLAYMAKERS made plays when it mattered, I.E numerous 4th downs etc, while the chargers lack of said playmakers really showed down the stretch.
@brickwall2175 күн бұрын
It wasn't one thing. It was many. An IOL that couldn't protect. An OL that got called for holding way too many times. A receiver that couldn't catch the ball. A defense that couldn't stop the run. Unexplained penalty call reversals. A secondary that was helpless in tackling when runs got to the second level. Coaching that did not make significant half-time adjustments. A premier RB that is injured and out for the second half. Herbert missing a wide open receiver. The list goes on. Yes, QJ is a problem. But everyone knows that the Chargers made the deliberate choice to go without a 1-receiver this year, and to live with what they got. So they got a great RT (Alt), but they also have to live with QJ and his drops. Maybe they thought that it was more likely that they could teach QJ to catch, than it was to trade for a lock-down RT. So they went with Alt. Maybe that was the wrong choice. But last night wasn't just on QJ. There was plenty of blame to go around. The Ravens are a fully formed, A-level team. The Chargers are an immature, B-level team. And it showed. But they will get better. This is just the beginning.
@Rilianawakened3215 күн бұрын
Hard to hear all of that detail, but you are speaking truth. There were lots of weaknesses exposed last night . . . QJ's key 3rd down drop was just one of the most painfully obvious. Harbaugh clearly knows how to do more with less. You can quibble with the halftime coaching adjustments but there was also evidence of some good coaching last night (the final quick drive for a FG right before halftime is exhibit A). At some point, as you are pointing out, good coaching can't overcome lack of talent and inadequate depth at key positions. Fortunately for the Chargers, QB isn't one of them.

There were a couple of things I could complain about, from refs, the drops, etc etc. But they beat us fair and square, mainly because we couldn't stop the run. But the one crucial factor that I will state is, Denzel Perryman missing the game to Injury was a huge blow to the chargers. Mainly because his backup, NICK NIEMAN, is ATROCIOUS. he is not good enough to be a backup in the league at linebacker, he looked lost, he's undersized, he got bullied and it seemed like we played with one less in the box due to him.

A lot of hyperbole in this segment about the state of the team coming in. It hasn’t been a reliable run game, it’s had its spots but it has been extremely inconsistent and underwhelming with poor interior o line play; QJ was never “turning into a beast outside”, he was making the easy plays that were gift wrapped to him which wasnt happening last year. He’s yet to have a wow moment in his career. His best moment in his career is making a very catchable contested 25 yd td catch vs jaguars that people lost their minds over. He’s a #3 and not a high end one. It’s been obvious all year that was the case, just like that Palmer is also a 3, better, but a 3 nonetheless, and that Ladd is the only genuine weapon they got. Fans will lose their head and claim more at times but that’s just the rollercoaster of being a fan. This is team is a 10-7 type team with a lot of short comings. With some breaks and playing above their heads maybe they can do a bit better, or if they miss easy plays like QJ did end up going 8-9

Ladd is a nice WR2/WR3, but he's got physical limitations that just hurt his big play ability. To beat a team like the Ravens or Steelers, they need a receiver that can keep the defense honest. The Ravens last night were constantly loading up the box and daring Palmer and QJ to beat them deep in man coverage. And the one time the Ravens started to respect their deep ball, QJ drops a pass, that you and I would catch 9/10 times, where he had a lead blocker and about a dozen yards of open space to use his speed. The on-field officials don't like the Ravens, they'll do anything to ruin drives, their go to seems to be the illegal formation & the ineligible man down by half a yard & yet we're 8-4, it's hilarious & it makes the wins feel so much better.

Lmao they’re rebuilding this year and still have really good shot at Playoffs. They just got rid of almost all star players last year too. If anything it’s only gunna be more and more dominant next 4 years
