The original plan was to have Saul show up and clean up Jane's body, but Bob Odenkirk was busy filming "How I Met Your Mother." The writers then realized that Saul would never do the dirty work of cleaning up a corpse so they created a Winston Wolf style "fixer" in the character of Mike.

Ugh, that would have been so much better! Nothing against Michael, but I hated the rather one-note character of Chuck and felt the show dedicated way too much time to him. We stopped watching for YEARS because it was so ridiculous. Better Call Saul didn’t come into its own until Chuck was gone. If Jimmy had turned into Saul earlier, we still could have had many seasons with Rhea… it would have been fascinating to see Kim “break bad” more slowly, instead of jamming it into the last few episodes. I feel the creators really robbed us of the promise of many seasons of Saul’s antics… instead we got law firm mail clerk drama and retirement home bingo schenanigans. Imagine if Breaking Bad kept Walt in the classroom and dealt with Junior every episode for three seasons. It would have been intolerable.

It was actually a writer's strike that saved Jesse. Because of it they weren't able to complete season 1, which would have ended with Tuco killing Jesse after he kidnaps him and Walt. But that gave Vince and Co. a chance to take a second look and change a few things, including Jesse not dying. I mean you're not wrong that their chemistry helped to change their minds, but it's the strike that did the most to save Jesse.

Not only that, but had Saul "cleaned up the body" we may not have BCS or the rest of BB as we know it. Saul cleaning up a body would fundamentally change his character. The Saul that WE know would never do that, let alone at the level he is operating by the time BB is happening. So Saul cleaning up a body himself would mean an entirely different character who's nature it would be to do something like that. I hope that makes sense loll

@@faybiel4956 It's also amazing where we were taken by a single, forgettable, throwaway line about two guys named "Lalo" and "Ignacio" while Saul was held captive in the desert that night. Felt so insignificant at the time and it was years before BCS was even properly conceived.

Mike kinda straddles the line where he'll do a lot of bad things but it's often to help others out, even if that isn't always a good thing. He's a criminal but with morals and standards and will only do the worst things if there's no other way that's good.

Mike is probably one of my top characters of all time and to think he almost didnt exist is unthinkable knowing the show how we know it now. And I think Rhea is right, thank god they didnt take Jimmy/Saul in that direction because his conscience in BCS made Jimmy such a deeper character than the shyster Saul we know and love from BB. Rhea is such an amazing addition to this great franchise and Im so glad they made her Jimmys heart and weakness so Chuck could be his adversary.

After "Jesse was supposed to die in S1" lol To me the fact that didn't plan the pink bear is far more intriguing and didn't specifically know about, foreshadowing something that hard with almost no plan is such a dangerous game haha, but given that Vince foreshadowed the machine gun in S5 with no plan either, well we know he'll do that to his own frustration sometimes

It doesn’t surprise me. I’m an actor, songwriter, singer, dancer etc..and I can’t imagine having everything mapped out. You always put one foot in front of the other and discover things as you go. The amazing thing about the creative process is fate plays a part. And you realize that you are just a conduit for what the gods have in store…

She was the glue that made BCS. Without her, Saul was never Jimmy.

I don't think anyone outside of the US had heard of Jonathan Banks prior to Breaking Bad. I certainly looked at his IMDB and I don't recognise well over half of it. The stuff I do recognise, he was in maybe 1-2 episodes as a bit part at most.

Rhea Seahorn is to BCS what Aaron Paul was to BB. I'm pretty sure Peter and Vince knew that and pairing them together for a scene was a nod to that. I don't think they would have done that otherwise.

She was nice like even to the extras she introduced herself as the director and we're all wearing masks at the time and I didn't know it was her until I realized she looked familiar lol

5:25 imagine if that actually would've been where Saul's character would've gone... Breaking Bad would've been a lot darker probably

It's funny to hear about how the BB writers hadn't yet planned where the pink teddy bear came from (other than the sky) but just thought it would be a cool image and worked it in later. "It's a jumping off point!"
