Aw, Richie's gone. The most spiritual artist I've ever heard and in the 60's he was one of ours. Freedom couldn't really lose with Richie on our side. We're fortunate that he passed through here for a while and left us such beautiful music as this. He may be gone but his spirit will live forever.

i saw Richie in southern Florida in 1972. We were so enthralled with him, we followed him to Troy NY and then to MIT in Boston where I got to meet him. His staff allowed me to walk right past them and i ended up in a room where he was doing an interview with a local reporter. She asked him" is it true that sometimes recordings made of your interviews disappear?" He just laughed! Not only was his singing a talent that we don't have a word to express.... he was also spiritually the highest person i was ever with. he told me he had an astrology school in NY and that if I wanted to attend, I could stay with his family. i had never met him before and was really tempted.... I asked what to do with my out of control 2 yo taurus son, and he told me when i needed his attention and favor, conjure up my sweetest voice and put my arm around him. That changed my whole family's lives...

Years ago I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Havens at at restaurant in Mount Vernon NY called The Bayou. As he was starting to play this very song, he looked at me and asked if I would like to sing this with him. I was truly honored and we went right into Handsome Johnny. After the show, Mr. Havens came over to bar and asked if I would dine with him. I jumped at the chance and had the best time of my life hearing his stories of the road he traveled. There will ever be another. God bless...💚🤍❤️

MrJonman69 How is this a Civil Rights song? It's a Quicksilver Messenger Service cover Well, what you say is true but then again it could be if you listen to the metaphores. I used this song to go along with a baby bull's struggles in a running with the bulls video. No one ever really looks at the oppressed. They think of the strength and admire it until the opress stand tall. They then turn in anger and try to fight them but there heart is too strong. He's telling you a story in this song. Quicksilver was too but people seem to get it more when he sings it. Listen to pride of man by them. They are psychedelic folk and folk is storytelling.
