Listen, I'm Italian, & I completely understand that Richie had to put his family first which is totally understandable. I have much Love & respect for him in doing that!! And people need to stop bringing it up now!! Some people have to always try to stir the pot. Well knock it off!! Much love to you Richie!! You're a GREAT Dad!❤😘

I adore Richie. There is no BJ without him. Richie was the only reason I ever listened to BJ. His vocals and guitar mastery were tops. I wish people would just let Richie live his life and stop putting the blame on him. His solo music is awesome!

TBH he apologized for leaving the band in a lurch, citing reasons, so blame could be placed on him though circumstances would likely make placing blame a bit rude. I mean, does Bon Jovi seek a collaboration with Max Martin otherwise to do It’s My Life and really go for a pop audience?

I always felt like a kid whos parents got divorced when they broke up. Sambora and Jon are legendary together. But Richie had to be with his family that needed him. Not with a band that didnt. At least we have a huge, beautiful music catalog from 1984-2013

I couldn't care less, I'm not a Bon Jovi fan, however I am a musician. He simply fell off because of either mental illness or substance abuse. It's one or the other. I can see wanting to get your head right but you simply cannot screw the band over by not showing up on multiple occasions. The band is family as well.....maybe more so.

@@steelearmstrong9616 That's because I've lived it on multiple occasions. Where a person in the group wasn't holding their own because they got hooked up on drugs , booze or both. Start acting like an idiot, getting drunk on stage, get lazy, don't show up. It's complete BS when the rest of the band are working their ass off to make it or continue success and you have a key member throwing it all away which fucks the whole band .

I feel they both made the right choices

What doesn't seem to make sense about Richie's explanation is why didn't he just tell the guys in the band, his friends, that he needed time off because of personal reasons? I can't imagine them saying no! Also, why did he no show all those dates without saying anything to anyone? Plus, according to the reporting in this video, Richie never told anyone in the band why or that he was even leaving the band to take time off for personal reasons, so how and why would he say that the band showed him no compassion when they had no flippin' idea WHY he left! Just asking the simple questions!

Many people have said over the years that Jon Bon Jovi comes off as being an arrogant dick or a douchebag. I don't honestly believe Jon is telling the full truth, or wanting the public to know all of the details. Like you said, Jon knows it all and what really happened, so it does make you wonder what was said and done either. Both Richie and Jon said and did things that were wrong and both of them handled this situation poorly at times. Neither one is innocent. However, I do think Richie is telling the truth with these latest comments.

I was mad watching the last 2 parts. I feel shafted for buying the what about now album. I remember playing it when it came out, and thinking this doesn't sound like bon Jovi. And to have richie say that exact thing and that shanks filled in explained so much. They also didn't mention richies dad had passed before that too. I think what about now should have been a Jon bon jovi solo album. Plus it seemed like Jon wanted employees where richie was really part of the creative soul of bon jovi. Jon bon jovi wanted yes men around him and it seemed like richie wasn't one.

I'll start by saying I loved that lineup. That band was tight in the pocket and just powerhouse performers. But there was this tension between being a true collaboration and Jon being in the spotlight. I don't hold that against him he's the lead singer and that spotlight should absolutely follow him everywhere. But around the time of that Young Guns 2 opportunity you could see a bigger separation. I think Richie thought maybe he earned or deserved some of those opportunities with Jon. They had written and earned the reputation together but it wasn't working out the way he thought maybe. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. They were incredible. They had an incredible run together and I would rather look back fondly than see them force themselves to get back together for one of these Journey type tours where the band has no chemistry anymore.

Richie isn’t taking accountability for his substance abuse issues. I’ve been in bands when a memeber has those issues, and you simply can’t play with them. For a band like Bon Jovi, them cancelling a tour would mean breaking multiple contracts and significant legal issues, millions in losses. Richie is not taking accountability for getting wasted and leaving the band out to dry. It was wrong. He should have negotiated some time to spend with his wife while on tour if what he says is true but it’s not. There’s nothing wrong with saying I have the disease of addiction, and I sought treatment. I’m healthy now. I’m sorry I messed up. I would love to make it up to the guys and make this band better than ever. You’re not hearing that cuz he won’t own up to it. If what he says was true, it wouldn’t take 11 years for him to now just reveal why he left the tour. I’m raising the BS flag.

Kudos to Ritchie. Whether he had substance abuse issues or his family needed him, he did what he had to do. For 30+ years he put Bon Jovi, the band first, but one day he realized that his priorities were not in order and he left the band. Sorry Bon Jovi that the timing wasn't convenient for you, but he finally did what he needed to do, so many years too late. Don't get me wrong. I've been a Bon Jovi fan forever and seen them in concert many many times. I miss Ritchie and Phil X is doing a great job, but Bon Jovi is not the same. Their Have a Nice Day CD is probably the closest the band has come to resembling the Bon Jovi I grew to know and love. Is that because Ritchie is no longer part of the band and song writing team? I don't know. But to Ritchie's point that the band didn't seem to care about him and what he was going through. I get it. He left very abruptly and left Bon Jovi in a pickle. However, after so many years together, you'd think that Jon et al would be totally aware of Ritchie's demons, trials and tribulations. Why not be supportive? Why not stand by him???? I'll tell you why...while Jon is a 'do-gooder' and helps a lot of people less fortunate than you and I, he's a business man. Ritchie's sudden departure no-doubt caused him a ton of stress and the 'show' must always go on. Yes, yes, yes, you don't want to disappoint the fans and cancel a show. But wow! What a statement that would have been, if Bon Jovi postponed a few shows to give Ritchie the time he needed to heal, get sober, and be there for his family. That is a good human being and friend.

It is hard for rock musicians. They peak so young, and having to get through a set when you are 25 is a lot different to getting through one at 53. The toll on your body and mind can have permanent consequences. And once they are a millionaire the incentive to keep making money when their remaining years alive are decreasing makes the money less important. Who wants to be the richest rock star in the cemetery, or an object of ridicule like geriatric Madonna?

Bon Jovi started putting out too many albums and touring way too much. Quality over quantity I say. With that said if they did a tour playing the older stuff I would go see them if Richie was included.

We know all this....getting tired of this. Its the same sort of shit that happens to Alec...when you dont show up at time for studio and stuff, and your drunk on stage ( watch unplugged from 2007 i think?), sambora is almost sleeping. Fucking drunk. He didn't show up, and he become a person that couldn't be trusted. Sorry people, but PhilX saved the tour and the band.

If there really was no substance related issues, how come it was so hard to just tell his guys whom he'd known for 31 and half years what his situation was? Anyone we'd know for that long period of time would understand. I call bullshit on Samboras story, i know substance abusers when i see 'em.

Richie has a better voice on certain types of music than Jon. He kills it on his solo album especially the song Stranger In This Town, the blues and soul work better for Richie. Generally speaking if 1 person in a band has issues more often than no they all do. Sometimes it takes different methods for them to stop. But, who to say thqt was the issue here. There is no Bon Jovi without Richie Sambora. Richie killed it live a true professional for sure

Richie has always put his family first. The “substance abuse issues” although did prevent him from performing in the past, were not relevant in this case, as he had just released Aftermath of a Lowdown and was touring in support of that record. Jon threw over his “right hand man” for John Shanks. The only one I have respect for in this situation is Phil X, who has shown much respect for Richie. Needless to say, he is the only one. I have lost all respect for Jon and David.

I'm not the biggest bon Jovi fan but I am a Richie Sambora fan and no matter why he left the band it seems like it was the best thing to do at the time, if they were his friends they should have been there for him especially Jon. Now there's no written rules on friendships but if you really give a shit about someone you don't kick them when they are down you either give them a hand up or you stay quiet and let them answer for themselves bc you don't need any help feeling any lower than you do. Life happens and sometimes it really sucks when it does and I personally don't believe Jon gives a shit about Richie and probably hasn't for longer than we know

so very true. the glorious famous talented Bee Gees are a perfect example. three biological blood brothers in a singing song writing group and because of something that went down between Robin and Barry and a decision that the manager made that was against Robin but for Barry Robin just ups and leave the group. no more Bee Gees. It lasted for over a year and then Robin calls up each of his brothers and says lets try this ONE more time. so they did with much success. But Barry says things were so messed up between them that the ONLY reason why they were able to stay together the second time was because they were blood brothers. Jon and Richie are not blood brothers and in reality these kinds of things happen all the time in music groups. It is very interesting that Richie leaving the band has caused so much grief with the group's fans that it is STILL being talked about more than ten long years later. both started out as young pretty💕❤ long haired smooth face men with very high energy wearing those silly wild high colored outfits. and now both are wrinkled with gray/white hair and both over 60 years old. 💕
