@@RyanEglitis I mean, it did just boil down to a bad charging sensor. Most of the other problems they encountered were while trying to open, move and revive the car after both batteries had completely died. Ether way, this shows EV manufacturers have a lot to learn when it comes their planning/designs for this eventuality. It should not be this hard to open, move or revive a vehicle which has lost power for whatever reason.

To be fair to Fisker, it's worth noting that this charging port actuator is also used in other EVs made by Jaguar/Land Rover. Since they are built at the same Magna plant, I believe some electrical parts from the I-Pace might be compatible with Fisker.

Messing around at home with electrical cars by random uneducated people is usually a bad idea if you don't want to burn your house or workshop down. When a car brand ceases to exist all the safety regulation circus goes down the abyss with it. It depends on the country if a car like this can be roadworthy again. These can be an amazing vehicle to drive or turn into a serious explosion by human stupidity. There's a real reason why brand have brand education for their mechanics. That does not exist anymore

My company MAGNA has built the FISKER in Graz / Austria. We were looking forward complete the development. It was a shock when we had to stop the production, research & development. If we only had the chance to complete it, it would have become an awesome car. My plant has built the engines in a large production line with dozens of robots and manpower. I even did sunday shifts as an service technician. It was very exciting to be part of Fisker. I'm still at that plant, but we do different products now. I work at a manufacturing plant in U.S. and we are making EV's. I agree with you 100%! The design of that charging port release cable is horrible. The VCU is a pretty common go to reset module for many functionalities of the car. There are some tips and tricks to each car on how to do a quick reset of some of the modules like the center display screen reset. I'm not sure if they list that in the owners manual, if not may be worth asking your friend that worked at Fisker. The screens like to go blank sometimes and even the speedometer, and most of the times a reset like that will do the trick.

The little I saw of the 'Emergency Shut Off' cable and its mechanism? Plenty of room to convert that switch to a 'Pull Disable/Pull Enable' function, and when you do design that new switch knob? Red insulation for the 'Pull Disable', Green insulation on the 'Pull Enable', and see if there is room to drill a second hole for a grommet to make it weatherproof and separate the two cables. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Hell, use a Dremel with a cut off disk and take the old one apart, if you have a micrometer take measurements. I'm pretty sure there are enough Geeks in the community that can reverse engineer it and use 3D printers to make the small parts, regular printer to print out masks for the PC boards and I doubt it has any IC or complex IC Chips in it. Simple switches are often just a discrete signal or ground.

The quick release is pretty normal, problem is just that they decided to put it in a easily accessible spot with no warnings. The locking pin is there mainly to protect the car and the person if they were trying to unplug it without stopping the charging process, it's subfunction is prevent karens. I don't know about Fisker but Geely, BYD and VW group EVs can be accessed through OBD with existing diagnostic tools in my region, just with limited functions and sometimes gibberish diagnosis codes, but it's something to start with in to maintaining these cars.

Just be aware every time you send a lock/unlock command to wait 60 seconds between each “command” also fumble around using the key’s NFC chip on the door handle to lock the vehicle that way. If you wig out the car with too many lock/unlock commands it will blue light for potentially a very long time.
@resresres1

i don't understand why modern cars need to check for proximity of the key or even need a locking mechanism on the charger in the charging port.... makes no sense to me. Is it to prevent other people from coming by and just unplugging it? If so they could have easily gotten rid of all that and made it completely mechanical by designing it so you can close the charging door and physically locking it with a key, then you don't need all that junk that will make it not work.

@@ats-3693 with their design no one else could do it in an emergency either. Either don't make the charging cable door/cable lock at all or do it mechanically. Further more, let's just get rid of some other sensors that end up causing more headaches than they are worth.... Such as, the tire pressure sensor, sensor for when air bags go off, sensor for the seats, I'm sure the number of sensors for the engine itself could be reduced as well, also make the whole anti-theft sensor and mechanisms optional because they end up causing huge problems when trying to repair.
