Dr B has changed my life! His book Fiber Fueled, is life changing. I followed low carb diets for years and lost 50 lbs. I also developed diverticulitis and had two colon polyps. I have ibs and leaky gut and because of it I couldn’t eat many vegetables and fruits because they ripped up my stomach. His book made me realize I had Fodmap issues. Once I went through that elimination and then reintroduction of these food very slowly, I am now able to eat these plant diverse foods and all of my ibs symptoms are gone!

@@merncat3384 I went with all meat/fish and avocados for just 2 days. My chronic back pain disappeared! I then introduced foods back slowly, one or two at a time. Found the only thing I'm sensitive to is too much sugar, or too much wheat. I have no problem keeping my sugar very low and my wheat low, too. If u do this, go back in slowly with beans and raw cruciferous veggies. I no longer eat 12 cups of coleslaw, but 2-3 cups is fine. We're all different, tho. 2 of my kids won't drink milk. When I think how adulterated commercial milk is, I think that's a good thing!

Who else is here after watching Dr. B’s more recent interview with Rich? 🙋‍♀️ Thank you so much to both of these men. I feel like I’m getting control of my health little by little. Almost 1 month WFPB now. It hasn’t been a seamless transition but I’m seeing benefits, particularly in mood and blood pressure and the weight I can never loose is slowly coming off. I think the key is patience and consistency. Edit to add…just finished the podcast and I am legit picking up Fiber Fueled and his new cook book on my way home today!!!!!!!

Processed vegan foods and recreating old comfort foods don't really work for me. Thank you both for a fantastic podcast. I wish I could get my family on board. But I also know they have to have there oen journey and I will continue mine. It's life draining to try and get people to change. So I will just walk the walk. The things we call weeds are the food and medicinal plants that our ancestors brought here and planted everywhere they existed. The main reason we only plant and eat certain plants is for groceries. For harvesting, transportation, handling, storage, and display. Foraging is a really good way to get more plants in your diet.

As an infectious disease physician, I agree a diversity of whole food plants are key to health not only because of fiber but because Whole Foods comes with critical polyphenols, vitamins, minerals, complex carbs, protein and healthy fats to combat inflammation. Specifically for COVID the acute inflammation is vascular and concentrated in the vascular system due to blood clots and thus causing respiratory inflammation amongst other tissues. The critical nutrients that have immediate anti inflammatory vascular effects are polyphenols, vitamins and minerals which are found in whole plant foods that can reduce blood clots and calm vascular inflammation. Unfortunately, The problem with chasing fiber is that the food industry is now making highly processed “health” foods with specific ultra-processed fibers that are devoid of the healthy natural combination of anti-inflammatory nutrients that are in real food. We talk to our body’s immune system via inputs and outputs. The greatest inputs are in the air we breath, the things we swallow and the stuff that contacts our skin.

Blue Zones is anecdotal,. So no science there. Claiming Hadza (hunter gatherers) are plant eaters (observational) is to ignore the insects, carrion, eggs etc they must eat. The part on TMAO's was based on one 2014 study where the subjects only ate meat or only ate plants, kind of limited. How many were elderly or smokers? What kind of meat? Other experts have condemned beans due to the lectins which are very toxic if not heavily soaked and cooked. Finally the vegan ideology comes out with the concern about animal rights. While right, it has nothing to do with what to eat. It becomes political.

Well thoose people are very few and certainly outliers. The vast majority of actual experts, and every single authority organization on dietary matters agree that we should eat more fiber. To say it's confusing because some fringe outlier quack says one thing, when 99% of all official organizations and actual experts says another, is like saying it's confusing to know if the earth is flat or not because some flat earther told you it is.

My sister-in-law has a number of autoimmune diseases including Hashimoto's and lupus. She also has Barret's esophagus and chronic constipation. She has been following the paleo diet for 8 years. What blows me away is that, according to her own words, her gastroenterologist never discusses diet with her. She thinks I'm nuts for following a vegan, whole food plant based lifestyle.

Isn’t it just so sad. Not one doctor ever discussed diet with me either. When my son was diagnosed with spondylitis and I asked about diet, the rheumatologist said he doesn’t know much about nutrition. They don’t learn that in medical school. He subscribed Embrel and Methotrexate instead. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Thank you for this. So educational and it's really helped me in my journey towards veganism. I accidentally started watching these videos on the benefits of a plant based diet and suddenly stopped eating meat/fish/dairy. Lots 4 pounds in less than a week but feel quite energetic and have been sleeping better. I've weaned off thyroxine a year ago because it was making me ill and no matter how much I reduced food consumption, I was still putting on an obscene amount of weight. I worry about my thyroid but am resolute on completely reversing my thyroid problem, hypertension, acne, arthritis, insomnia and cognitive impairment (if that's what it's called). It's been a week and I feel like I've taken a magic pill. I'm not a vegan and never started out to become one but boy! 8 day vegan by accident has made me feel brand new. Thank you.

Dr. B speaks in a way that penetrated my grass-fed, wild game, meat eating soul. I definitely did not want to let this point of view in, again. As many of us have played in Vegetarian-Vegan-Raw Food-GlutenFree-GlutenFree but better-Keto (Carnivore, never spoken to me, personally),I had found complete joy in the mostly Keto-Organic sandbox. I thought I had reached diet Nirvana...then enter Dr. B's voice on The Rich Roll Podcast.

I’m almost to 1 month and still get a lot of gas, headaches and the occasional brain fog. That said, my blood pressure went from boarder line hypertension to totally normal and my mood is amazing! I feel so much better mentally and I’m loosing about a pound a week so it’s definitely going in the right direction.

I think I still have my Mother's book on the Hunza. I'm over 70, and she, as a nurse, was way ahead of the times. Grew up on a farm. My favorite foods are "weeds". Horses really need a variety. Their intestine needs a huge variety of plants. I love nettles (springtime greens, summer and fall seeds), and dandelions. Dock, self-heal, cleavers (ornery little plants), clovers, vetch, purslane, etc. Adding these helps us find that diversity. Plus many others. Thanks for a really healthy conversation. Dr. Zach Bush is the guy who started me on regenerative ag path learning about tight junctions which are destroyed by glyphosate (roundup). Listening to him is my favorite way to spend my time. The main difference is that Dr Saladino is a psychiatrist, not a trained internist, whilst Dr Will is an internist AND a specialist in what he is talking about (gut health). The Carnivore guys are extremely fringe in the medical community. There is NO Evidence to back up their claims and their OWN LAB WORK shows the dangers of eating the way they do (when they released their labs which showed incredibly high HbA1C and LDL they actually tried to claim that these wern't actually bad things, rather than rethinking their dietary choices).

@@lululove6175 I tried it all aswell..but I have come to the conclusion that plants in combination with an already compromised gut has given me a SERIOUS oxalate issue so I have gradually gone carnivore again. Last time I stopped bcs I didn't understand that I was experiencing oxalate dumping. (I have been vegan for ten years and vegetarian for many years.) This time around I know that this will take time but it's not easy to deal with when you have all these symptoms. Love when physicians see the value of what Nutritionists study! One important point, Oral, vaginal and gut microbiota can be regulated by estrogen. Estrogen deficiency in menopause promotes intestinal permeability! This alone can lead to inflammation and a host of problems including autoimmune and metabolic conditions. This is why it is critical to educate these women of microbiota diversity and diet change.

Very insightful podcast. I have subscribed to a Lectin free diet since 2017 and have benefited greatly. I lost 65 lbs., and no longer suffer with arthritis and fibromyalgia. I can now introduce foods with Lectins with little or no issues. Dr. Gundry has researched for 20 years on thousands of patients so I am not sure why Dr. B is so opposed to his scientific research since he is a scientist, as well. Dr. G, also promotes a diverse plant based diet over eating animal protein and acknowledges the Blue Zones and their diet. I think it’s important for everyone to find the balance that works for them and understand how to cook those foods or prepare them to be less inflammatory in their body. I love Dr. B’s passion and perseverance to help others! Keep up the great work.

Dr Gundry is a liar, thats why. He lies about lectins. He claims that beans are a high lectin food but like Dr B said unless you are eating raw beans these zero chance that will affect you negatively. Gundry also says nonsense like "tofu is full of lectins" and instead recommends mushrooms for protein which is absurd. Gundry is a liar and has been exposed as such time and time again. Hes not a researcher, he's a you tube personality that lies for clicks.

Thank you for such quality content! When I was diagnosed with UC about 15 years ago (& was flaring, often) I asked my Dr. (at the time) what I could do to mitigate flaring up. Could I change my diet? He shrugged and said, "meh, you can try, but there's no evidence that doing so will help." Since then, I've gone gluten & dairy free. I'm mostly plant based...when I stopped eating dairy, I noticed the most significant difference. Better gut and I've gotten sick WAY LESS. I rarely take med's, now. It's all about the diet. Unfortunately, so many have a vested, monetary interest in keeping us sick & on meds. To them, I give all the middle fingers!!! 😁
