I'm happy to say Archie Moore was one of my boxing coaches. He thought me a lot about life and boxing. I met Archie in 1982. It was on a TV show and he was our trainer. He was lucid most the time. Occasionally he would drift off and seem disconnected. I would not say he didn’t suffer the consequences of all of his fights. However he did speak clearly but at times it seemed he had mild dementia from boxing. I don’t mean to say this to take anything away from the man because he was a wonderful guy. He had wit, grace and humor. We spoke often about music and boxing. I miss him.

African American youths throughout America should look up to men like Moore, Ali, Barry Sanders, Obama, Chuck D.,Jim Brown, MLK, and so many others that lead like men and provide positive influences. Men like these are the true men... There are way too many Jerk off rappers/ athletes/ gangsters/ thugs that glorify violence, drug dealing, abuse of women, and abuse and disrespect of innocent people. Ignorance comes in all colors. We need to change America and guide the youth and protect them. Instead, we're deceiving them and teaching them how to hate. We are all in this life and live on this world together. We live in a lonely part of the galaxy in a lonely part of the Universe. All we have is each other. Let's take care of each other, instead of hurting each other... They decided who won ,and thretend other fighters that they will die if they did not lose. THere was a Jewish boxer who had to lose to Marciano. Black fighters, Joe Jhonson was the best by far ,but did not get a chance to fight the White champions, He ran after those fighters for seven years. Even though the National Boxing Association (NBA) stripped Moore of his light heavyweight title in 1960, he continued to reign as New York Light Heavyweight Champion until 1962. @@thomaslogue7773 I'm with you on Archie's greatness. I'm an old boxing student like you. By saying Archie is top 10 of ALL boxers in any weight class, then where does "The Rock" rate when he crushed him at even weight? You see how it gets complicated?

What an astonishing career. His cognitive level after well over 150 fights was amazing.

He's great, I love Archie, so great he retired healthy. Did he help train Big George for the Moorer fight? His records will never be broken. The only man to face Ali and Marciano. Ezzard Charles beat him 3x though. By ko in his hometown once! 😉

That thumbnail photo caused me several milliseconds of confusion as my brain's facial recognition hardware tried to process whether that was Archie Moore or Charles Mingus. Steam almost shot out my ears.

Another great job Rich Archie knew that good things come to those who wait if you work hard and don't waste your talent. My favorite memory of him is from when we were Kings. He is sitting next to George Foreman listening to Don King ranting about something stupid looking totally confused. Please get my Iran Barkley episode ready soon.
@lovenlightman2 жыл бұрын
He didnt have any other chance to get a shoot at the championship. Black fighters had to win 40 or 50 fights back in the 40s to get a tittle shoot witch was pritty much impossible while White fighters needed to win 10 or 20. And the Mafia Controlled most Boxers They decided that Marciano will be champione, They Controlled Sonny Liston and many others. Ali was one of the first ones the Mafia did not Control I think.

Dude cut a better promo than most pro wrestlers. The argument could be made that he was the best light heavyweight champion. Leaves you to wonder what a peak Moore could have done against Ali.
