Rick's tragedy is that he knows that there is infinent versions of him and that there are infinent of other lifeforms which takes away the importance of himself, his family and humanity as a whole, but he still wants to have meaning, but his knowledge and world view doesn't allow room for it. Rick is someone who accepts the reality of the situation and isn't someone who buys the "make your own meaning" message. He realises his own species insignificance. He deals with it by engaging into hedonism, like partying, playing games, do science and watch TV. He also gives a standard of importance which to him is knowledge and science. Hedonism and science is how he deals with a apathatical universe. Love is something he has a problem with as love is something you give to something or someone special, a person, your family but the reality is that, in Rick's world, no one is special. His knowledge of this makes it irrational to ascribe meaning to anything, which is why our Rick and other Ricks refer to our Rick as irrational because he express remorse and care to Morty. Rick wants meaning though he doesn't admit it. He wants to love his family and grandkids but he can't accept that about himself since he thinks it would be irrational. They are after all just part of an infinent number of other versions.

This feedback is not meant to be critical, I really appreciate the level of depth of the analysis and the quality of the writing on this channel. Rick is a narcissist but he does not have Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Those two things are not the same thing. Rick lacks a huge cornerstone of NPD--he doesn't care about the opinions of others. People with NPD very much care and in fact become enraged and vengeful when people don't worship them. Rick is the opposite of this. While he gets irritated when people get in his way, he isn't personally offended. If one were to diagnose Rick, he would be an alcoholic. His behaviors display a lot of signs of Anti Social Personality Disorder (aka sociopath) but in the moments he feels bad, you can see that he is only numb because he self medicates. At heart he does care. If he were truly a ASPD, he would not have those moments of remorse and feeling bad. ASPD also don't come across as cynical.

I feel that....Rick is such a Rick, because he literally is always right. He is a narcissist because there is no other way for him to perceive himself, due to the fact he's never wrong. The reason he has Morty accompany him, is in hopes that if Morty, someone who is so....well, Morty, could prove Rick to be wrong, then perhaps he can rid himself of said narcissism, thus being able to care for his family as he should. Which shows in the fact there are times when you can see Rick cares, even for Jerry. When Jerry decided to not go in the house that one episode, you see Rick smile as if to say, "You're doin good, you're learning Jerry"....of course Jerry eventually tried to go in and Rick became such a Rick again...but the point still remains.

Rick has always been with Morty. He jumped timelines. I believe he jumped into a timeline when the show starts, where he replaces a Rock that died 20 years ago. That's why the Beth of that timeline missed him so much. In his original timeline, he never left the family. So for him, it was a smooth transition, but to the new family, he was gone for that whole time. My guess is that he abandoned Evil Morty to the Galactic Federation, and jumped to the first convenient timeline he found.

That'd make a Rick of anyone.

Rick doesn't think he's smarter than everyone else though, He IS. that does not excuse behaving badly towards others of course, or acting like he does, but he is correct that he's the smartest one in practically any room he walks into. That point she made about how Evil Morty could be the original Morty and that Rick cared about him, but left him because he turned evil and smart, (maybe even smarter than Rick, which probably scared him) just messed with all my theories...so it could be a rational explanation to why Rick doesn't care too much about the Morty that we all know as the "original" Morty, because of the fact that Rick can't let himself care about another Morty again because he was hurt so bad by the original one he truly cared about...but then that would bring us to how evil Morty hurt Rick in such a irreparable way that he would be so messed up...my mind has been blown but also shaken 😵

The memory of Rick's wife and Beth dying in the explosion with Rick watching in horror was how Simple Rick came about. Rick tried to get Simple Rick to do something...maybe the portal gun like he says in the episode, and when he refuses, he bombs Simple Rick's wife and Beth. Having a portal gun, he finds the Citadel where the Willy Wonka Rick realizes he can capitalize on it.

Rick has a lot of problems going on with himself. Long description short, Rick makes himself seem like a nihilistic, uncaring asshole to everyone around him as he is afraid of opening up, and the truth is, Rick deeply loves his family and as shown in the show, protects and saves them multiple times. Even if there are infinite versions of his family members, he still doesn't want to let his guard down and possibly lose his family. He loves them. He just hides it so well, that even Morty is now convinced that Rick cares about nothing and no one, which isn't the case.

The interaction at the Jerry Jamboree is significant, because that scene with the Jerry mix-up shows that we did not follow C-137's Rick and Morty home. The Rick that asked if that was 5126 Jerry, was our C-137 Rick and the Rick and Morty that did not have a ticket was another universe's Rick. When we followed them home, that's when we were introduced to Mr. Poopy Butthole, signifying that we were in an alternate universe. Anytime Mr. Poopy Butthole is in the show, we are with alternate Rick and Morty. Anytime there is no Mr. Poopy Butthole, there is a good chance that we are with C-137 Rick. Think about that for a minute...

Rick is not particularly envious. The only times he exhibited envy is when dealing with the Morty liking the Vindicators more than him. Other than that, you dont see him exhibiting envy towards anyone, why would he? He is fucking RICK!!!!

Rick is pure truth Morty is a mix of kindness(ignorance) and intelligence This is why Rick is always with Morty. Morty has the ability to be better than him.

I think that Rick needs a new philosophy. Budishm for example. Rick once said something along the line that once you know that life is meaningless the universe is yours. Good, because personally I can find plenty of meaning in a sandbox. Freedom equals happiness, but only if you decide to see it that way.

One thing I think Rick should think about: Even though he may infinite daughters, they are not his daughter.

Well that's kind of the thing. The way he acted towards bird person, was kind of indicative that he does feel this way to a certain extent.

The answer is all of the above. Also, he's killed himself multiple times. Sometimes in battle, sometimes by accident, sometimes out of mercy. Plot twist: 8:34 he mixed in a little of his own DNA.

Theres so many wrongs pointed out in this video, first that Rick is a narcissist which isn't true he really is special from everyone and not only believes it but is it as a fact. Second, saying his original Beth said that he left her mother doesnt mean he left Beth and never came to visit Morty when he was born. The other Beth isn't even his Beth so you can disregard everything she says about him.
