Rick is so gracious. He’s not pretentious. The thing I noticed about this performance is he gives away everything to the audience and more importantly to the musicians/performers on the stage WITH him including the security and organizers. @@ginayoung130 Oh, I apologize if I didn't quite explain myself there. See, what I was saying, I mean it more about the talent they showcase on stage. Yes, both Osborne and Rose weren't the best people exactly, but both Osborne and Rose were amazing performers aswell (at least when they actually put some effort to it) I can name various unforgettable gigs from the Gun's even though I don't really like their music. Those times, I feel like you had to be born with talent or put some serious effort to your music. Nowadays...not really.

@estebansoto9550 ahh okay, I do agree with you mostly. I definitely think most pop artists don't care to engage the audience and give them a great show. But I think a lot still do. When he would have been relegated to a casino act like many 80s pop singers, and humbly content with it... The rickroll phenomenon completely rejuvenated his career and solidified his legendary status. It's the whole reason he gets to play Glastonbury 36 years after his massive debut. He was always gracious. In just working quietly in the studio, in getting to record, in having a big break, one superstardom, in his star waning, in playing smaller gigs and just getting to play with session musicians to intimate crowds for years... Of course he received his resurgence warmly. Cuz he's a righteous dude. 🎉

Probably - at least in part - because he did not just start out singing trying to be a frontman, he started out singing in a choir. And in a choir, if it's any good, you learn things like you warm up your voice gradually first before trying to outsing a church (or a crowd). (ETA: Incidentally, Bruce Springsteen mentioned somewhere that he doesn't have any proper vocal training but that that's exactly the reason why he will often come out on stage before the concert actually begins and sing just with an accoustic guitar for the people who have been waiting there for hours. If you do a workout, you stretch first. You do the same with your voice.)

This is unironically awesome. A lot of '80s singers struggle to re-create their heyday voice. But OMG Rick Astley actually sings *even better* than he did back in the day. Not to mention a real tight backing band. If he ever takes his act to the USA, I'm totally going.

Rick Astley is STILL an incredible performer and vocalist. BUT what I love the most about seeing him perform this song, is how he makes it all about the fans. He's clearly there to serve his audience and help them have a good time. He's a legend.
@alwaysblake148 Жыл бұрын
It took him a lot of years to get to Glastonbury, but once he got there he gave two of the greatest sets ever performed there. His own set was brilliant, but his set with the Blossoms singing the Smith's songs went into the stratosphere. Legend, indeed.

I'm more of a metal/punk guy but I love the positive vibes and energy Astley gives in this performance. Sometimes you just need that kind of music and I got this the older I got (was "that guy" that shat on pop music in high school).

Usually I use to listen to hardrock or metal, but Rick Astley is an absolute groovin' and funky musician. Like his songs since the 80's. So, never give up Rick and keep on rocking !! The bassman is playin' like hell !!!

I also listen to a lot of different stuff: Rock. Metal. I even have a favorite K-Pop group. I’ve loved Rick since he broke through in America, and see him in concert whenever he comes to town, especially since I missed his early shows here. He really is a fine performer, and seems to be a genuinely nice guy. I think that getting off the showbiz carousel helped him in the long run because he got to spend quality time with his family, and it gave him a good perspective when the opportunity to re-enter the business presented itself.

Pete Waterman signed Rick after seeing him perform with a local band in the north of England and had him work as an assistant in the studio, supposedly to help him learn about the business and overcome his shyness. I find it hard to believe that Pete would bring this guy over and hang around, and not have his two partners hear his voice. But, they eventually did listen, and decided they needed to do something with him.
