As a librarian, I've been saying this for years! It's incredibly ironic on the surface but, sadly, I guess the truth is that a lot of people are still too gullible (believing the first thing they read) or lazy (checking several sources to cross reference, evaluating those sources for bias / authority) in inform themselves.

Nieghorn a good example is climate change warmists saying every weather event is due to global warming with altered data to back up false claims.

Hello Mr. Mercer long time fan, ever since this hour has 22 minutes where your rants were my favorite part. It's really good to see you on KZbin though it seems to be just your show cut into smaller vignette instead of a whole episode as 1 long video. Not sure if you've noticed but your Rick's Rants have a lot more views then most of the over videos. It would be awesome if we could get some web exclusive Rants. Watching you go is truly impressive.

This is extremely ironic coming from a news parody host. :/ Also, hi, Rick, people used to enforce the rules back then. They don't know because it's just too rampant. They can't afford the man power, even if they had the budget to do so, to scope out and investigate every false headline/article. They just can't.
@rebekahambrose58394 жыл бұрын
Well said, Mr. Mercer! I think that people need to step away from government-owned news channels/resources and go to independent sources. It is pitiful that people are spreading false news and that people are not critically questioning whatever is being presented in the news story.

Well, Mark.....because we are increasing being lied too....I don't believe anything I hear anymore.....when I'm told about the "wage gap," that there are more than two genders. That someone is sexist, or racist, or Islamophobic.....or that we need to silence hate speech, while using violence to do it. And by the way Mark, this isn't a new thing, it's been slowly growing for decades. Our children are being taught in collages and universities to be Social Marxists in gender studies courses. Why don't you try asking that question to man like Professor Jordan Peterson.....do you even know who that is?

You know where Snowflake came from? Its what the slavers were called back in the day as they preferred white lives more than black. Thanks for clarifying your a racist baiting troll.
@anitat97278 жыл бұрын
Actually it came from the Chuck Palahniuk's 1996 novel Fight Club, and its 1999 film adaptation. Both the novel and the film include the line "You are not special. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake."(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Snowflake). And as a woman of color, your false facts sicken me as make light of actual racism. You are as bad as those alt right supporters.

When has spreading lies about politicians been frowned upon. This is the fundamental task of a politician, and has been since the beginning of time. He who can lie most and get away with it wins! Its the profession of politics that is spreading to other aspects of life and its politics (and religion intertwined) that is taking control of the internet. The age of stupidity is upon us. So sad, so sad.

I do not agree with what you say, Rick, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. Your rant was blatantly supportive of Internet censorship. Also, for all those of us who have been kept in the dark before the Internet did not make us brainier, but brainwashed. For all those lost years I spent in public school I say " thanks for nothing". Paul Simon said it best when he wrote, " when I think back on all the crap I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can think at all! And though my lack of education hasn't hurt me none, I can read the writing on the wall."

Alternative facts is a funny term, but I feel like it fails to properly convey the seriousness of deliberate and malicious misinformation to create a desired response in the public. The easily influenced believe all this garbage information while the rest of us become so jaded by falsified "facts" that we lose interest in knowing altogether.

A lot of the fake stuff on the internet are deliberately created so that you click on it and that website gets 'hits'. There is no obligation to post true information, only to draw people to your site. Clickbait is likely one of the largest contributors to the problem Rick is outlining

@krod1936227 жыл бұрын
Richard .... maybe you are intimidated that the few sources you so dearly trusted were fake (see: "high cognitive dissonance") .... now it takes much more work to vet sources for news coverage ....but the effort is worth it ....the truth is out there ....and with enough effort you may find it ....at least for a little while longer...you have the opportunity
Short answer to Rick's question is that humans are flawed and lazy creature, and Human nature and the issues that come with it will not sim[ply change because we got the internet. Some of the longer answer in down below. Well before there was less people out there with "megaphones", some level of standards needed to reached to prove that you were worthy of being called News. (sometimes those standards was being good at spreading propaganda, unfortunately that never stopped). And since the world became more globally aware, by this I mean countries know some of what is going on around the world almost instantaneously, a new avenue of competition came from people wanting to learn about this as fast as possible, and tell as much News as fast as possible, the 24 news cycle. This lowered some of some standards, to allow News Groups to compete for attention. News groups funded by Governments may not need to fight as hard as other groups for public attention, but still run the risks of having an agenda they wish to push either because that is what the government tells them, or they have vested interests in how or what stories are told beyond the facts. Also the fact that no one can view every issue from all angles all the time, and humans are to a degree lazy thinkers, who are sort of set to try to spot out patterns to cut time and energy spent on thinking. Then once more people were finally able to use "Megaphones", then some of the "standards" where lowered even further. If everyone is all trying to speak at the same time, the voices most listened to will be the loudest saying the craziest things, And since so many news groups on all sides try to push narratives. Also people has just enough time in the day and formal intelligence to see the number of places that News groups cannot all get the perfect details and people within those groups will try to control people thoughts to a certain degree to agree with them.
22 minutes and ricks report are garbage. cbc must go!!!
