I think it's cool to see how different styles play out against each other: Rick Roufus was vurnurable to lowkicks and got defeated by Changpuek-Ernesto Hoost with his superb low kick defence put Changpuek away-but he was defeated by Roufus insane kicks and Manson Gibson was defeated twice by Rick via decision but knocked out Chang with a devastating livershot... Suprisingly he also did very well against Hoost(who should have held an advantage as Gibsons stance and kicks should have made him a sucker for lowkicks) because he countered Hoosts kicks with his superb spinning-backfist...

I'm an avid boxing fan, and over the past couple of years began to delve into MMA and other combat sports (the first MMA fight I ever saw was the outstanding Aldo/Faber WEC fight), and this is the first time I've ever heard of Rick Roufus. What an athlete, and what a fighter. By far one of the best to ever do in the business, as far as my eyes are concerned. And his true fighter's mentality is the icing on the cake. *I wanna beat the best and I wanna be the best, and to do that, you gotta fight the best.* They just don't make 'em like that anymore. He grew up in an era of straight up warriors.

@HankSemoreButz Forget about 'realism' all of these things are sports. Modern mma or kickboxing doesn't exist to demonstrate realism, its entertainment at the end of the day! 'Real' violence/unwanted assaults are often: messy, unfair, involve multiple attackers, others joining in or attempting to deesculate the situation, weapons are common and the conflicts can end extremely quick. P.s. Outside of the cage, ring or gym, in the 'streets' there is no man in the middle before a 'real' confrontation (referee), making sure those about to engage are "ready" to fight and saying "Let's get it on" lol!.

@arsdesain To be fair, it takes years of conditioning to really work with and defend low kicks against professional fighters. This generally start from very young, essentially deadening their nerves. Dutch stance?

It's almost a stance where you're square on or where both shoulders are facing the opponent. The downside is it leaves your abs vulnerable BUT you can generate more power with both hands and if you tuck your elbows in you also protect the ribs. The reason it's used is because you can check leg kicks better
@scarred104 жыл бұрын
@@ronki23 it's not a Dutch stance,its just a normal low kick kickboxing stance .The main thing you learn from above the waist is how to box since the kicks need to be set up and you need range to kick.You can get away without good hands in thai but not full contact.

Two rules that I would change in MMA would be, go to neutral corner after knocking an opponent down,and the opponent gets to have up to a 9-count by the ref...and the other new-rule that I'd have in MMA is that,a fight that goes to the ground can only Stay on the ground for 30 seconds. You make it sound as if they schedule a movie-style one-on-one in some dark back alley and settle the score to the death - for some sort of a bank heist they did together. While in reality, fighters take part in a championship/tournament which is governed by and is ran under a certain association of the respective combat sport discipline, having its respective rules. So they know very well what they are signing up for, in case they decide to go for it. For example, Changpuek Kiatsongrit once participated in a karate tournament. So it was obvious to him that he will have to do karate, to the best of his ability. Same is for everyone else. Otherwise, a NBA elite will certainly lose to a NHL team - if they play hockey. And even an average waterpolo team will wipe the floor with them both :-) - in a waterpolo game...

@@dugonman8360 Rick was actually better than Kiatsrongit. He just wasn't prepared for the leg kicks. In a rematch, Rick would've whooped Kiatsrongit 99/100 times.

@@genshin5288 Oh, I definately know that, even in the match you could see Kiat figuring out low kicks were a weakness for Rick. Even then the fight was insanely close. Theres just a weird myth among UFC fans that Muai Thai was running rampant destroying every other martial art, even going into conflicting recreated history.
@genshin52883 жыл бұрын
@@dugonman8360 Muay Thai fighters and coaches are hostile towards other arts like Karate and Taekwondo but they can't take the criticism for themselves. For example, Dave Leduc (World Lethewi champion) made remarks on Muay Thai claiming it to be weaker and ineffective against Lethewi which pissed off the whole Thailand. #hypocrisy

A mi parecer era muy bueno en kickboxing y full conatct. Pero cuando le toco pelear con experto luchador de Muay Thai, este le destrozó con low kkcks. Conste que Roufus casi ganó en el primer round con un buen boxeo. Podes ver Rofous vs Changpuek.

Roufus and Dennis Alexio-both americans, great kickboxers but newer fight each other? Who ducked who? Roufus fight with great Ernesto Hoost 2 times..

Alexis fought Cikatic and Wilson though. Probably it's not ducking but just circumstances
@HexenStar3 жыл бұрын
@@classic_of_rock_music Alexio VS Cikatic is a very vague story in itself. Sadly, it was left dubiously open-ended. "The Terminator" sort of sucker-punched Branco, and the referee called it quits. Same story with the infamous "hand of god" by Maradona. Later, the soccer judge at that match admitted his mistake, but it was years later. As with the two champions - we'll never know.
