Richard Wright said: As far as rock guitarists go he's (Jeff Beck) got to be my all-time hero. He started as a blues guitarist just like Clapton (Eric Clapton), but he's investigated the possibilities of the instrument much more. You probably won't know this, but when Syd (Syd Barrett) left Pink Floyd we actually asked Jeff Beck to join, he was our first choice. He was doing OK at the time so he turned us down. There's one track on Guitar Shop called Where Were You? that's just this beautiful, melodic guitar sequence. I loved it so much that I took that feel for an instrumental called Sweet July on my new solo album. I wanted Beck to play on it but he turned me down. Again.

There is an interview with Beck and Cooper where Beck they talk about Floyd during the time Gilmour joined and they were going to ask Beck but were too scared. Beck said he never thought they'd give him the light of day. Would have been a crazy alternate Pink Floyd history

IM GLAD JEFF SAID NO because he isnt gilmour and then what would have happened to pink floyd --jeff would have quit and noone feels the space rock shoes like david albeit his stuff on amused to death is 110%floydian i just cant see him sticking around also dark side would it of still happened i think not -they would have went in a pop manner?

the most heart-warming thing for me is that, on the interview for this very album, mr. Wright mentions that one of his favourite guitarists was David Gilmour. Such great friendship they had...

Rick and David - heart and soul of the Pink Floyd sound. But here Rick demonstrates yet again, even without David, that ability to produce beautiful soundscapes.

Damn, after 15 years when I hear this masterpiece it just flashes me back in time when everything was so innocent, and the only problem I has was to be heartbroken. Damn, times are changing!

I never knew Jeff Beck was asked to consider joining Floyd after Syd. Amazing thought. It didn't happen, but Gilmour was great for the Floyd's continuing journey. Still, Rick Wright and Jeff Beck would have been amazing collaborators, I imagine. Rick Wright had a wonderful imagination in all his musical contributions. I saw a Floyd show in London, around the Momentary Lapse time, and Rick played an intro to Us & Them on a synth with the most beautiful sound to it. I could have sworn he looked my way with an enigmatic smile on his face as he played it. I loved his style and his sounds!

My favorite instrumental on the album...I wonder if Rick titled it "Sweet July" because that's his birth month.

I thought it was Tim Renwick doing guitar on this album. Rick brought him in because he's worked closely with Pink Floyd in the past.
@endlsrvr3 жыл бұрын
@@michiganmagneto Dominic Miller was from a kind of three-pack. Dom and the drummer, Manu Katche, recorded together with Sting. Both were working closely with Pino Palladino too. I assume that Rick was looking for some "modern" musicians from the "top", with a jazzy touch. He was in love with jazz.

Fuck me chaps. I know I like Roger's stuff and pink floyd. But I've been busy doing weed and deep house. This just blew me away. Who said give gilmore a run for his money. Exactly correct dude. Cheers all . Enjoy. C.
