I’m a mother of 4 and I can tell you that you are essentially in baby boot camp the first several months after your baby is born. Your hormones are everywhere, you’re exhausted and you don’t see the end of it when you’re in it. Postpartum depression perhaps as well? It’s no excuse for hitting someone, certainly, but it may help us have some empathy for her ❤ Brilliant video as always, Rick :) Thank you 😊

I’m thinking she was probably exhausted, not nervous. No excuse for the hitting, but as much as we think we know about their personal lives, I’m sure there’s a lot we don’t. This is very interesting; like everyone I've watched these shows numerous times and I've seen an episode or two where I thought Lucy & Desi weren't getting along for real. There was an episode while they were in Hollywood where they were at the Mocambo Club; and I thought Lucy was genuinely mad at Desi over something going on behind the scenes. In the show Lucy was upset with Ricky regarding their anniversary; but I thought Lucy wasn't acting- she was truly angry with Desi, not the character of Ricky....

Now you've opened up a can of worms in show trivia, Rick! I stopped the video and looked up The Simmons twins - Richard and Ron Lee! They're still alive at 71! I wonder if anyone in your fans ever actually got to go watch an episode being filmed back in the day! That would have been a blast! Especially if Didi was in the audience doing one of her "Oh-ohs!" I've mentioned before that Hogan's Heroes has done something similar with General Burkhalter's name by sometimes calling him "Bulkharter"!

The Simmons and Mayer twins are more than likely the oldest(by appearance not by age) last surviving cast members. As for the crew it’s possible someone born in 1928 or earlier is still alive. Janet Waldo one of the teens infatuated with Ricky(The Young Fans episode) was next to first. She died in 2016. Note Bart Braverman(Giuseppe) from Lucy waiting for a phone call from New York City episode from Little Ricky is still still alive and perhaps others kids from The Enchanted Forest as well.

While I can understand Lucy feeling frustrated and perhaps embarrassed because she found herself being a little rusty when she returned to the show - and although some people here have commented that perhaps she hit Desi due to postpartum hormones, the fact remains that millions of women experience those post-delivery hormonal fluctuations and yet they don't hit their husbands! I am so very grateful to enjoy Lucille Ball's immense talents, but my feeling is that it's never okay to take out one's frustrations on another person, much less hit them. 100% not okay. And no double standard: I feel the same way about what Lucy did as I would if the scenario had been reversed, and Desi had hit her in the back.

@Avery_42723 ай бұрын
That's a good observation and question! Hmm, maybe the Bensons had lived elsewhere until their daughter was grown up, and maybe the daughter had come to live with them in the Mertz's building for a while during (or after) her college years. So technically, the Benson's daughter never lived in the Mertz's building as a child. That could be one possibility.

Rick, there's another example of them being a bit argumentative in season 6 episode "The Dancing Star", when Ricky is not believing that Lucy danced with Van Johnson. Lucy slips and says "I did, I vanced with dan" and then she kind of giggles and says "I danced with Van Johnson". Then Ethel says "She did I saw her" and Fred says "Whatever Lucy has, it's catching." Then the phone rings and Desi walks over to get it and he mumbles "Vanced with Dan, what's that? She's gone, completely." That is a bit of a stinging response to her flub and obviously is not scripted.
