The episodes that contains Larry's violin and with him playing it of course, were always some of my very favorite. In my youth, I didn't enjoy watching the episodes without Curly. As I got older, I enjoyed watching the episodes with Shemp. All of the Stooges were so incredibly talented and important to comedy.
@debbieschultz97682 жыл бұрын
I never knew about this. In regards to your question the father absolutely did the right thing. If he had drank this, being so long ago it would have killed him. The acid would have burned everything, the throat the esophagus and everything it touched going down his throat. He saved Larry’s life. ❤️

Love the backstory and good his father was nearby to respond quickly. Stating the obvious and still current, but a somber reminder to keep dangerous materials out of kids reach. Glad all turned out okay.

Wow, hearing of Larry's accident reminds me of Gracie Allen, who also suffered a similarly harrowing childhood event. Little Gracie pulled a pot of boiling water off the stove that left her with scars on her shoulder and arm. She had to content herself with 3/4-length sleeves and bemoaned the fact she could never wear a strapless gown.

Such a scary moment in Larry and his father's life, definitely something I didn't know. But without his father being aware at that specific moment there would be no Louis Fineman and no Three Stooges so thank Heaven for him! Keep digging Rick, amazing knowledge, thanks!

About the same time that Larry had his accident, my mother (a schoolgirl at the time) came home to see a pile of powder on the kitchen table. She presumed it was confectionary sugar and went to lick it. It turned out to be caustic lye (my grandmother was about to make soap). The lye left a wicked scar on her tongue. She didn't have any speech impediment from the incident.

Hi Rick, I truly enjoy your video's. I knew about Larry's violin before this video. I think it's amazing that his parents took the effort to save his arm. I would have never though about using a violin as physical therapy. I sometimes think that there has been a loss of knowledge today. The people, year's ago, may not have been formally educated, but they had a knowledge and wisdom that seems to have be lost today. I'm so glad for the path they selected for Larry because I can't image the Stooges without him. While I'm typing this I keep hearing Larry play Pop Goes the Weasel in "Punch Drunks" and then finding the radio playing and the truck with the loud speakers playing Pop Goes the Weasel. They are the best!!!

Thank you for posting about Larry. To me, he was the quite Stooge as compared to Moe or Curly and he rounded them out, so to speak. I watched them on TV as a child growing up in 1960's Brooklyn, NY. As someone who took lessons on the Bass (Bass fiddle, ContreBass, whatever you want to call it) and studies formally, I did notice Larry's hand position and bow arm which spoke to at least some level of study. This is a nice way of rounding out Larry's ability beyond humor and it was a pleasure to have seen and enjoyed your video. Best to all.

I did not know the back story which I found interesting. Smacking the contaminate from him was a reaction that we all do without thinking which is good. It’s a natural thing to want to protect our loved ones. For them to repair him in the way they did was excellent. The violin was something I might not have thought of for his physical therapy. I didn’t know about this incident. What people should keep in mind is modern medicine didn’t exist in the first decades of the 20th century, and it’s a wonder Larry Fine didn’t die from an infection from chemical burns to his arm, as there were no antibiotics yet available to kill an infection once it got started. It’s also a wonder that he had skin graft surgery and physical therapy in the form of violin playing to maintain flexibility in his arm while it healed.
