I’m amazed that some people actually spend thousands of dollars and precious vacation weeks traveling with old guidebooks. Sure, it feels like a splurge to spend $20 on the newest edition of a guidebook. But thinking you're "saving" that money by using an old edition is a classic example of being penny-wise and pound-foolish. This little clip gives you a peek at the many changes that are worked into a lovingly updated guidebook. In 2019, you’ll want not the fifth edition of my Vienna guidebook...but the sixth: store.ricksteves.com/shop/p/v...

Rick I really enjoy these behind-the-scenes glimpses at your work in progress. Please do more! Maybe a series of videos about your travel writing process, going from the most trivial things like the type of notebook you carry right on into how you record an emotional reaction to a particular work of art.

Travel guides are great backups and for information. Don’t be afraid to tuck it in your pocket for a while and get lost in a city or countryside. Sometimes you find your own unique memory along the way. Keepin on travellin

Hi Rick. Was just on your website in the Britain and Ireland guide book section, and noticed that there's a book in that section covering Iceland. You may want to let someone in Edmonds know about that, probably tough for people to find where it is.

Thanks Rick for all your hard work and investment! The information you provide, is worth it. You and your informative books (& web site!) made our first trip to Italy, very easy and affordable. Every time we tell stories of the trip, we always refer your books and priceless information! Keep up the great work.

Thanks for all you do Rick...the Internet websites aren't updated with everything, and I like a real book to hold, more than an ebook....look forward to more adventures

Tourists are carrying smart phone more often than a guiding book. A Book is for reading at home, guide book is for traveling. Do you have ebook version ?

Except for the mobile and internet costs (assuming you have reception at all), and keeping the battery charged is another lovely thing. Also hoping the phone or computer doesn't encounter any unexpected technical difficulties. Plus the internet has everything, but you have to know what you're looking for. Not everything is always online, and if it is it might not always be updated. A guidebook with comprehensive and readily-available information is just handy (whether that's by Rick Steves, Lonely Planet, or whatever).

Who's to say that by the time Rick's Publisher prints and releases his new guide, that the information isn't already outdated. His followers would be much better off if he self-published, sold them off a website directly or monetized the content in another way. But then again, he might be sacrificing those nice fat advances and promotion that the Big Publishers give him. Either way, what is clear are that guidebooks like his are going the way of the dinosaur. You can get much more up-to-date information for free on the internet...... This man really has to keep up with the times or unfortunately get left behind....I mean, he was still touting Travelers Checks until the mid 2000's despite the fact that ATM's that accept US Bank cards have been around in Europe since at least the 90's at much better rates and less hassle.....
