Omg these travel bites are so welcome in a busy day! I grew up in New England, having Harvard and Yale to visit was such a treat! When we learned of the colleges such as Cambridge, England we were determined to visit one day. What a beautiful day to film! I will be taking a "punt" when I visit, thanks again Rick Steves!

When you are in Cambridge, be sure to attend Choral Evensong in the beautiful Chapel of King's College. If the queue is too long, try St. John's! Fun fact - The University of Cambridge was founded in 1209 by lecturers who had been expelled from Cambridge for laziness, alcoholism and ignorance.

You come from New England and have visited Harvard. Well then - here's a little fact. A few years ago the best THREE Universities in the world were adjudged all to come from the same city: Cambridge. In other words, Cambridge University, MIT and Harvard - the latter two also being in Cambridge (but Mass. rather than England). Harvard was named in honour of one of its early benefactors, John Harvard who was an alumnus of Emmanuel College, Cambridge where he is also commemorated. If you ever get to see OUR Cambridge, you MIGHT find the city centre colleges, the ones backing onto the River Cam, a little crowded with tourists. But there are other colleges just a little further out, Emmanuel College itself and Jesus College (which in truth are still near the centre and Jesus in on the river side) but you can also go to other colleges like Selwyn (my old college), Newnham - those two are only a very short walk from the centre and are right next to the Sidwick Site which houses most of the Humanities Departments like History, Music, Geography, Law and Divinity - and Homerton & Girton Colleges which are further away and therefore don't have so many tourists. Some of the colleges are beautiful as well as centuries old. The city centre has lots of shops and pubs - The Eagle Pub is famous as the discoverers of DNA used to go there, and it has many messages on the ceiling left by RAF & Canadian, American and other pilots during WW2 - and there are lots places to eat. A good day out, or two days. And that's still not enough time to see ALL the colleges.

Nice video! There is a small mistake: the court your describe as King's is in fact Trinity ('Great Court'). King's also has a court with a central fountain, but it is less large and not the one featured in the video.

Oh my God!!! Rick are you still in Cambridge? I’ve been watching your videos for ages and it’s great to have you in Cambridge. I can host you for formals haha. Let’s see if any of my friends manage to catch you in Oxford :) By the way I doubt all the colleges look the same 😂 some (the touristed ones) are considerably prettier than the others. But one can generally walk on the grass for the non-touristed colleges (at least for mine).

It is well known that Cambridge has been the royal rival of Oxford University not only locally but across the world. However most of the people say that Oxford has been the lead in best Universities across the world putting aside Cambridge and Oxford. Cambridge is the university responsible for International examination and assessment, I wonder what would be the feeling if Oxford decides on to prepare international exams as well?🤔
