Just to clarify for all the commenters who say "Brits do't give a shit!" "he can say what he wants!". Not a word of this is ill considered. He mocks ignorance, we all laugh at ignorance. And that's what the Americans might not understand. It's an incredibly pointed, intelligent and progressive way of joking. It's never been a case of us "STILL being able to get away with it".

If you think about it , what Ricky's done is make the guy laugh with him- there's no ill will- that's why the guy in the wheelchair appreciates it. I bet it gets frustrating with people walking on eggshells around you and treat you like a delicate flower just cause you have a disability. Nothing a like a bit of banter to show you treat some one as a just a regular person.

On the contrary, Americans like his sense of humour because he's so risque. Most of the celebrities didn't get offended at all, a lot of them even knew beforehand they were going to be the butt of his jokes at the Globes because he told them and he's friends with most of them, people still think that Steve Carell and Johnny Depp were annoyed with Ricky, but they're all good mates.

I don't particularly like Ricky Gervais but this was such a great example of why I despise every single phony prick who tries to ban and censor certain types of comedy, and all those who pretend to be offended on other peoples behalfs. The only thing banning certain groups from being joked about and not allowing them to be the material for comedy does is separate those people even further and turns it into "them and us". To achieve true equality and end segregation you have to completely abolish all boundaries and allow every person to be included in micky taking as well as praising. If a joke is done well(or the intention is coming from a good place) then there should be no such thing as "this is not allowed". Every person in that room understood the context and found it funny, no more so than the guy in the wheelchair. I hate how society often overlooks intent and context and focuses only on content.

TheRealTrevo Albums nobody will remember. Fucking Justin Bieber has had number 1 albums, mate. Means nothing that. Anyone these days can get a number 1 album. Nobody buys albums. 50 blokes stuck in 1995 buy it, number 1. I like Noel in interviews.

Club Astro Transcendental Motor you’re waffling mate. Number 1 means nothing, sure - but it’s the case of if you have a number 1 with your integrity still in tact. And Noel has kept his, miraculously

@ISetYourFaceOnFire
@ISetYourFaceOnFire 5 жыл бұрын
@@minners71 How exactly has he turned into a complete twat? he's a quality human being, hilarious to boot, and his recent show afterlife, was really good, extremely poignant, and touched the hearts of many who deal or have dealt, with loss, and he promotes animal welfare etc. So if THAT'S being a complete twat, then what are you? but I'll indulge you though. One area where I think ricky can come off as a "complete twat" is him saying these days, "when I wrote the office and extras" rather than saying "when I and steve merchant wrote the office and extras". The revisionist history and not crediting Steve rubs me the wrong way a bit when I see him in recent interviews, but that's it.
