This interviewer is great - don't make it about you, let the subject be the focus, and interject when you need to. Great job!

The Office is my favourite comedy, along with Alan Partridge, but I find it weird that Ricky refuses to mention Stephen Merchant. They have obviously had a falling out but his constant reference to how The Office was a success, because he was old enough to experience life before writing it, seems to be a subliminal dig at Merchant, who co wrote it when he was in his late 20s at the time
@roterfuchs82018 жыл бұрын
gervais stuff without him isnt good, you can tell how much of the office/extras was merchant. But fame gives people that ego-shit so they wanna be the prima donna.

+Nineteen Eighty was Merchant involved in Gervais' stand up? They were fantastic so if Merchant wasn't involved in those it shows that Gervais does have talent... although his ego is far larger than his talent.

"Alrite. How’s it going. First answer. We ain’t fallen out but I hardly ever see either of them. Doing the podcasts used to mean we had to meet up but since we knocked them on the head we’ve just been getting on with our own things. Can’t say I’ve missed them that much though to be honest. One of the last times I saw Ricky he farted on my head so I’m not in a rush to meet with him anytime soon. Steve sent me a photo of him the other day and he’s now totally bald! Not sure if he’s ill or he’s shaved it for a part in a film. Did that even get posted?"- said by Karl in June this year,so they ain't fallen out

Indeed. Also what Merchant was involved with, was the rubbish Life's Too Short.

The Gervais/Merchant question has been on my mind for a couple of years now. Listening to the old XFM shows and watching the Behind the Scenes of Office/Extras it seems impossible that they'd fall out. Steve was on This Morning less than a year ago and didn't seem bitter, he claimed their schedules were just ''out of sync.'' Although I noticed they're not following each other on Twitter or Instagram, which is a big statement these days. If anyone has any proof or info on this ''fall out'' I'd love to be notified. Fingers crossed for Life on the Road.

I'm looking forward to Life on the road. I don't expect it to match The Office and I don't think it's intended to. The office and podcasts were stellar comedy. Special. Out there on their own. Everything else is at a more average level of quality. And that's not a criticism. Makes me wonder what point i'm trying to make.

Hearing Ricky talk about not wanting to be focus grouped just shows that no one says no to him when he's making these films, and seeing them it really shows. None of his directed movies (Although I haven't seen Cemetery Junction) have been good, in fact they've all been quite bad. He seems confused and I feel like America did change him. Ricky is hateful, sceptical and rude and that's what makes him so funny, suddenly trying to add sympathetic to that list doesn't really work when he attempts to make the sympathetic aspect an integral part to his films.

It really bothers me when he brings up that "survey" that all kids just want to become famous and don't care what it's for. He probably started bringing that survey up like a decade ago, when I was probably the same age as those kids that were being asked then, and I can tell you right now I never wanted to become famous for famous sake, and nobody my age fucking did either. I wanted to become a pirate, or a ballet dancer or a marine biologist. At no point did me or anyone of my peers ever express this desire just to be famous, like he seems to believe. You can't just read some biased survey once on the Internet that you never credit and use that as proof that kids nowadays are so different from 40 years ago. I do know of one person who wanted really badly to become famous in their youth, and tried and failed to become a pop star, but whatever.
@stevechristie25696 жыл бұрын
Mina F It would be more accurate if he stated "people since the late nineties have become fascinated by people who are famous yet have no talent and often copy them and respect them inordinately - Jordan's books have sold millions."
