It is a totally improbable idea. It might be funny, but it is impossible to grow up in our country and avoid mention of God, even if your parents go out of their way to insulate their children from religion, which mine did. Think of the Xmas songs, or any songs. I had friends who believed. Well, it is actually ridiculous to even discuss the idea. So it was a joke. A throw away idea.

How about this logical solution for everyone regarding the ultimate truth. If you, every night 'request' 'Oh creator of the universe, if there is one, guide me to the right path' Why? well there would be no arguments and people can live the life as they are guided or not (if there is no god). Why is it logical solution? Well when you die (which every one does) if there is no god you have nothing to worry about, if there is a god and you where following gods way fine, and if there is a god but god says no no you did not follow my way, well you will have a very strong argument, you have asked god every night for guidance and if he did not guide you then it is not your fault and all religions portray god as all merciful. Try it out and see what happens there nothing to lose, just a few seconds every night.

But far be it from me to prove it to you if you insist on remaining ignorant of stamps. Atheism is the assertion that 'there is no God.' To believe this assertion, you must of necessity exercise 'faith' that the assertion is true, because 'it cannot be proven'. The assertion by Atheists, that Atheism is the absence of belief or faith, is an erroneous absurdity. There is no evidence that Atheism is anything other than a 'belief system', albeit the belief that there is no God. Atheist love to play this game with semantics to prove that Atheism is not a religion, but in order to do this, they first have to twist the meaning of words and ideas into pretzels in order to accomplish it.

I used to believe in God, believing I would go to hell if I didn't and it's a crime that other people should be subject to absolute punishment regardless of them being a decent person. So now I don't, easy as that.

I’ve recently come to agree with that. I would love for a Christian to explain to me why it is so important to god that we believe in him, so much so, that he’s gonna burn us alive if we don’t. That’s the most vain, selfish and wicked thing I’ve ever heard. Makes god sound like the devil.
@sir-_-smith99494 жыл бұрын
Depends on what kind of God you believe in. I'm a Christian and the core of my belief is that God doesn't send me to hell because I don't believe in him, I end up in hell as justice for my own wickedness and the fact that Christ died for my sins so that I shouldn't have to bear these terrible consequences because God is loving and mercifull enough to offer me a way out, it is up to me if I accept the hand he offers me to be free of this fate or not, because justice for evil is something every human being would agree with and that is exactly what hell is. We also agree that mercy and compassion are good things and that is exactly what God offers us through Jesus. And the idea that God sends 'descent' people to hell is only valid if you assume people are inherently good, history aswell as the christian bible states this definitely isn't the case. Now you could say: "But they never hurt anyone": I refuse to believe that any human being has never hurt another human being in any way shape or form. "But they do good things": Is it because they care or so that they could brag about being good people because if it is the latter then they are not "good" people and it is rarely the case that someone does something simply because they want to do it and not because they were raised to do these good things by there parents in which case you are not a 'good' person. You are simply conplying to your environment(i.e. the way you were raised)

Every school assembly started and ended with prayers and hymns and then there's Christmas, Easter and all the rest of it. I became an atheist as a teenager and have spent the rest of my life trying to work out what is indoctrinated belief within our society and what I can truly believe. It certainly makes life interesting.

Daz Moreland, Ah, there are. Lots and lots of them. Why do you think that is? Would you mind if I asked you another question, Daz? If you were a sculptor, and created a masterpiece of art admired the world over, and you eventually sold it to one of your patrons. But while moving it, your patron tripped and knocked it over, shattering your priceless artwork into a hundred pieces. And while picking up those pieces, he cuts himself on a sharp edge, his wound becomes infected and while seeking medical attention he contracts sepsis and dies. Would that be your fault? -Just asking.

Ken Kuehne no, because he’s not all-powerful, like God. And don’t start preaching to me, I’m a Christian. I’m just a logical one.
@kenkuehne60274 жыл бұрын
Kallie Mae, Why are you answering for Daz Moreland? Has he forgotten how to type? In response to your comment though, I wasn't suggesting that Daz (or a fictional facsimile) was God. I was asking a logical question that demands a logical response. Atheists want to blame God for every broken thing in a broken world. If a terrorist kills children in a preschool, they blame God. If a young Mother is abducted from her home and sold into sexual slavery, they want to blame God, if a child contracts cancer, they want to blame God. For so-called 'Atheists', they appear to have an obsession with God. In any case, Atheists hatred for God is misplaced, because they have no knowledge or understanding of who God even is. 'Sky Daddy'? 'Super Santa'? Seriously. The ignorance and denial of all evidence that contradicts their assertions is mind boggling. But hey, carry on.
@KallieMae4 жыл бұрын
Ken Kuehne not all of them have an obsession with God just like not all religious individuals are conservative, racist, or strict. I was just providing an answer because I get frustrated when people who haven’t been educated in philosophy or logical fallacies get asked trick questions that they don’t know how to answer. I’m sure Daz is a very smart guy, I just wanted to show you the hole in your argument, which is that no, of course it wouldn’t be his fault. However, we humans are not all-powerful. If we were, like God is, and we KNEW that the other would die from the exchange, to not prevent that from happening would 100% be our fault. They’re allowed to blame God if they want to. God gave them the freedom to think. As someone who believes in God, I get mad at the guy all the time. I think the question more accurately is “If you believe in miracles, then why doesn’t God perform miracles all the time every day to spare us from such great suffering?” People say “because free will!” But as someone who’s suffered greatly in my lifetime, I call bullshit. I’d rather have all my free will stripped away from me than suffer the way that I did. I don’t know the answers to all these questions and I don’t think there are any for us to obtain right now. I think God spares us from the answers for a good reason. When I was in the middle of my suffering, if God had told me the reason why suffering was happening it would have just made me MORE angry, because no answer was good enough. He could have told me that I would have saved every single person on earth and I would have said “I didn’t want to be the one to do it. Give this to someone else. You never gave me the choice. I’m sure there’s someone out there who would love to be the one to suffer this much for the good of others.” He could have told me that it would make the rest of my life WAY easier and happier and I would have said “I don’t care. It’s not worth having to suffer through THIS.” He could have told me the very deep philosophical reasons why or opened my eyes to the spiritual realm to make me understand and I would have responded “well why didn’t you make it differently so that this didn’t happen?” I was in so much pain I would have done ANYTHING to make it stop. Anything. It didn’t matter what God would say. I think there’s a reason God hides it from us and leaves us without answers. I think it’s a mercy to not have answers. How many people change faiths through logic? Very few people. I’m a very scientific person but I came to faith because of the miracles I experienced first hand. No matter how much logical sense all of this makes, it doesn’t explain what I saw and experienced. People don’t change their minds because of logic on ANYTHING. Human beings are such irrational creatures. So I stopped arguing logic with people who disagree with me and started listening to them instead. I’ve seen more people come to faith that way than logic ever did, and I’ve learned so much about humanity in the process.

garrulousglandarius, "Nobody blamed God for anything." garrulousglandarius, that's called an overgeneralization. Spend some time on Athiest threads and you will find angry Atheist blaming God (apparently all of them), and believers. I have no idea why they blame any deity that they also claim to not believe in. It's seems pretty pointless to me, but then, I'm not an Atheist. Your assertion that, "All we do is ask you to explain...", well, you can ask, but I suspect you actually couldn't care less about the answer. It's also very likely, that you don't actually care what I personally believe either. So, it's not actual answers that you're searching for, it's just an argument to make your points. The answers to your questions are neither secrets, nor hidden. In fact, there are so many answers, that a well-known Atheist started writing a book to disprove the existence of God, and found the answers to so many of his honest and sincere questions, that he could no longer remain an Atheist. His name is Josh McDowell. You can look him up.

They seem very close-lipped on the subject - like they just can't admit that they simply don't know. But there's got to be something in it - much more than the absolute nonsense that religious people believe in without any evidence at all. There's physical evidence for Santa Claus - and I know other people, kids especially, who've seen similar evidence for themselves. It might not be a fat guy in a red costume who shouts "Ho Ho Ho" every visit (anyone who believes in that literal interpretation is an idiot), but it's definitely somebody or something. I love it when religious people use the argument "The human body is so complex, it must of had an intelligent creator."... The human body is far from perfect. Everytime you eat or drink, you actually run the risk of choking to death. That is not intelligent design. Everyday your DNA destroys damaged cells, sometimes leading to cancer. Not intelligent design. Human genitals, if anything happens to them, you can't reproduce, not intelligent design. I could go on and on, the point is that none of this signals an intelligent creator. If you were to create a species, you wouldn't make it so that soo many different things can go wrong. "Oh well, Adam and Eve ate the apple, so thats why we have diseases"... if you wanna believe that, that's on you lol.

+brn2wld Does being a Christian stop you from doing the horrible things you mention? Does that mean if you weren't a Christian, you would do those horrible things? Why can't I mention you or reply directly to your comment? :-) There are always consequences when people do horrible things - why should we have to wait to be judged by your imaginary deity? Good people who lack a belief in any of the gods that humans have made up, don't do horrible things, probably because of the empathy that we feel with other people - we simply don't want to hurt other people. This is far more virtuous than not doing horrible things because we're scared of what an imaginary creator will do to us after we die. What assumptions do you assume Ricky makes about Christians? Nobody is shoving anything down anyone's throat (haha, now now, don't be rude) - he is answering questions in an interview he was asked to do for a documentary. Take care

Hi Matti, for me it seems when Ricky speaks on religon it only seems to be on christainity and islam, I wondered what your thoughts were on my religion Sikhi, would of been interesting to hear Rickys thoughts aswell
@MattiHolden9 жыл бұрын
Hi Gurmeet, My initial thoughts would be that Sikhs are just like me but have a set of beliefs that don't encroach upon the lives of other people. In that sense, and judging from anyone I know who knows any Sikhs, Sikhs are great! :-) My knowledge (and probably most peoples' knowledge) of Sikhism is limited. However, the fact that Sikhism isn't being talked about in this video, or in the news, is because Sikhs aren't killing people in the name of their religion, for example :-) Again, that means Sikhs are fine with me! I wouldn't agree with a Sikh if they told me that their god is real and the one true god, for the same reason I wouldn't believe in any of the other thousands of gods that humans have (in my opinion) made up - because there's no evidence for the existence of that god or any other god. The way a Sikh practices their religion is, in my opinion (and probably Ricky's), far more positive than proponents of the other religions you mention. Take care and thanks for your comment
