That's what you could achieve in the training camp. Train your muscle memory for that counter. He was an elite boxer, not a bum who does not have the skills to do that. He just underestimated his opponent and get ko' ed badly in early rounds.

The fact that Hatton was constantly getting tagged by that right hook was no surprise. I think what is surprising is that after being hit with that shot against fighters like Juan Lazcano and Luis Collazo, that Hatton didn't realize how susceptible he was to that shot. I remember Lazcano dazed him at least twice with that shot. If I remember correctly, even earlier in his career against Eamon Magee he was catching a similar shot. Hatton never learned to pick his hands up and avoid the lead hook, I think.

Floyd Sr. comes from the old school of boxing. You spared 5 to 6 days a week along with your gym work. If you didn't take your defense seriously you wouldn't make it with that work regimen. Those were brutal days but as a fan we also enjoyed brutal fights

Will Irwin exactly, I have said the same thing, mayweather sr can do good work with some fighters but a fighter like hatton, he has no business training. Hatton was a rugged and agressive fighter, mayweather retuned his aggression, hatton needed to stay on top of his opponents. Hatton actually did better in the fight after he got hurt and was fighting on instinct, either way, I still think that pacquiao would have stopped him at any stage in hatton career.

Hatton's biggest mistake was to have Mayweather sr as his trainer. He had no idea how to fight manny. In that fight Hatton was wide open from the first bell and it was too easy for manny to connect with almost every punch due to his speed and workrate. For Hatton his only chance was to do his best work up close....but to give manny space well thats inviting trouble. Up close was his only chance against Floyd jr too but unfortunately for him Joe Cortez broke the fighters the second they got into close quarters. Hatton is 100% honest and wears his heart on his sleeve and letting his fans down by not speaking up during his training upset him badly

Prior to that bombshell i thought Hatton had a decent chance if he could get in close to Manny without taking too many shots to get in as i believed that was his only hope. Mayweather sr made the camp a circus.....could nt use pads as a southpaw for crying out loud. The Maywether jr fight i've never wanted a ref to take a standing 8 more than Joe Cortez that night. He had no intentions of letting Ricky work in close he was breaking them up before Ricky could even plant his feet. Ricky not as slick as Floyd but i was pretty sure he was stronger than him but Cortez called break more times than a rally cars co-driver😡
