Ricky Jackson's footwork is so slick and he is so coordinated in his movements.... Look at those pivots, slips and relaxed punching without reaching for the opponent, tellsign that his balance is always on point. Those constant, small adjustments of his feet, ensuring that they are properly beneath him before letting punches go.

Thnx for posting. Thomas Hearns - very gifted charismatic boxer. Noticed background music playing sounds like Tupac - 'Keep ya head up' @57' in , video says 'Dec27 1992' BEFORE official single release date of 1993 , must have been pre release going around earlier!

As an amateur boxer I’d like to know what drills you did for hand speed and movement? Punches were so sharp and loose back then
@Hamzah__

i second this, they make it seem so effortless!
@OldSchoolStrength
@OldSchoolStrength 6 жыл бұрын
OLXVI Its not so much about what drills Thomas did but more to with the fact he could relax himself so well.. Duran could do this also.. steward taught guys how to relax right upto before the punch connection when then the fighter is to tense and close the fist. Old school fighters were incredibly relaxed its something that needs to be addressed more throughout gyms as guys just like to fight too much today.. Mike mccallum was so relaxed he slip shots no fighter today could and wack you to the body real good...Hand speed comes down to relaxing..

Old School yh you almost never see punching like that nowadays baring Floyd and Sergio Martinez
@OldSchoolStrength
@OldSchoolStrength 6 жыл бұрын
Relaxing is key to real speed.. But... Some people are born with that scary speed which cant be taught.. Floyd, SRL, SRR, list goes on....Same with power punchers.. Some are born with an ability to break bones and knock you senseless!! Julian Jackson, Gerald Mcclellan, Earnie shavers, foreman, Tyson... what they all had in common was an ability to relax and shoot the punch clenching the fists millimetres before hitting the target.. Bruce lee spoke of this a lot... Thomas Hearns had this down to a T as did the G man..

Speed training should be a part of your strength and conditioning. I strongly suggest looking up Triphasic Training by Cal Dietz if you're serious about improving speed and power.
