You are spot on about country being the best storytelling because that is basically all it is, a story with some good music to back it up. As for Ricky Van Shelton, I can listen to his voice all day long. All his songs are great, even the cover songs. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I'm 80 yrs old and have been listening to the most wonderful voice ever, RVS, recordings for years. A smooth, fantastic country singer, and song writer ,he's real country. God Bless you Ricky and Bettye.

I so highly recommend that you listen to "Daddy's Hands" by Holly Dunn. Its a very touching story about a daddy and daughter relationship. Please please listen to it. You will not regret it and youll never forget it. Cross my heart 😊🤞🤞🤞🤞

Great reaction, Billy! Just found this one, and I still love this song as much as I did when it was released. Ricky Van Shelton was, and still is, one of my favourite artists. Saw him in concert so many times between 1990 and 2000 or so, all over the country - Nashville twice; Portland, Salem, Eugene, Newport, Oregon; Tacoma, Washington. I saw that you did a reaction to Rockin' Years, too - another great song! More reactions to any of his songs would be appreciated, as would more reactions to Dan Vasc.

Saw this on the feed and the first thought was 'He is going to love that song for the story and the fact that the chorus takes on different meanings each time it is sung.' Ricky Van Shelton may not have been the biggest star in country music, but he was a hell of a singer. Some songs of his that stand out in my memory would be 'From A Jack To A King', 'I Am A Simple Man', and 'Where Was I'

Your mother was not over dramatic about you starting driving, it was the love she has for you, and she did not want anything to happen to you, the bottom line, speaking of lines. I like how you relate to the song, what you love about country music. Ricky Van Shelton has had one of the most beautiful singing voices in country music. The car in the video is the very same car that Ricky learned to drive in, it belonged to Ricky's older brother, and is has been passed down to his son & grandson.

this Is a great song. I am a 3rd generation race car driving. When this song was freshly out coming back home from the track the night my dad finally put my in his car for my first race it came on the radio. And even though I already knew it when the song came on that was when and the only time my dad told me how proud he was of me. Not just taking after him in racing but being the kind of kid/man that stood up for others in life. It is a song I hold dearly

My dad taught me to drive on a manual. He said if I wanted my license, I was going to learn to drive a stick..so I did. Lot of jerking, stalling, and sputtering went on, but a lot of memories too.

I has about 15 when I was first taught to drive. I watched my mom and dad drive my whole life, so I had a good handle on things just from observation, but doing it yourself was kinda daunting. So one day after school, which was 17 miles away down country back roads, my mom pulled the station wagon over, got out and came to the passenger seat. I thought I was in trouble for something, but she opened the door and told me to get in the drivers seat. Excited, she told me to go drive slowly down a dirt road and get a feel for it. I was doing good until there was a car coming the other way, and instead of panicking, I tried to keep to my half of the road. My mom was freaking out, told me to get over repeatedly, then grabbed the wheel and guided it to the side of the road. She told me to get over, but she never said which way! I would have been fine the way I was going. We had a laugh and later did it again, but because she was a bit excitable, I preferred to drive my dad around. So a year later, my dad and I was going up to Mt. Pleasant in our suburban, which was about an hour drive one way and back from Lansing. It was all highway driving, so it was really easy. Now one thing my dad did was subconsciously extend his leg to the floorboard when I was supposed to slow down or stop. So when I was going too fast coming into Mt. Pleasant from the exit ramp, or coming up to a traffic light, he'd unknowingly extend a leg. I got the visual cue, and that was that. Well, one time we were going down the highway at 70mph and he suddenly extended his leg. I saw it out of the corner of my eye, slammed on the brakes. He looked at me confused and asked me what was going on, to which I told him, "I saw your leg stretch to the floorboard real quick, so I thought it meant for me to hit the brakes because you did it real fast!" He laughed and said, "Son, I was just stretching my leg, you need to drive like I wasn't here, because I won't always be in the passenger seat stretching my leg so you know to hit the brakes." After all the driving I did with my folks, I ended up taking drivers ed. in high school as a gym class credit. I had the best grades in the class and the best road scores. My scores might not seem like a lot, I rode with 2 other classmates and the teacher, and we either stopped in the middle of the intersection because a kid timed a stop all wrong, or went down an icy road and a kid got the car stuck in a snowbank because we slid all the way into it. Another time a kid stopped completely in the middle of the highway and wanted to do a U turn because she missed the on ramp. To date, I've been driving for over 25 years, only had one accident, and never got a speeding ticket, but a lot of fix-it tickets because of the suburban I first drove became mine, and it needed A LOT of fixing up and had a mess of faulty electrical issues. But that is a story for another time...

This video reminds me so much of my father. He taught me to drive, he also taught me mechanics, electronics, carpentry, and plumbing. He always said, never pay someone else to do what you can do for yourself. Oh by the way he also taught me to cook. He said you never know when you will have to do for yourself.

I learned to drive sitting on my dads lap on the back roads. From the age of about 4 to 10, then when i could reach the pedals. He let me drive with him sitting beside me on the backroads.

My dad started teaching me to drive when I was 5. Mostly steering and stopping while he put hay out. Didnt start shifting gears till I was 7 and could see over the dash. Great memories. Got my license the day I turned 15.

My grandfather taught me to drive a manual when i was twelve he grew up in a time when you were old enough to work the farm you were old enough to drive the trucks and tractors i drove him and my grandma two and half hours away on a interstate when i was fourteen i passed three cops and they didn’t look twice but i was 6 foot at 14 the best memories of him is me driving them down old country roads and him saying turn whatever way feels right

My dad taught me. He got me a car with a manual transmission. I was so upset. He told me he wanted me to be able to drive anything if I ever needed to. On the fun side, it was a 5.0 Mustang. He used to drag race. He taught me a few things. I can out drive most people. It's fun. He told me not to tell my mom or she would get mad. Lol.

I went to trucking school in 2008. Had to leave 2 weeks in to help take care of my mom when she became very sick. Never was able to finish my CDL. But I still got to live my dream.

I don't drive because of my severe anxiety and panic attacks! Billy I agree with you about country music, it it the only genre that can make you feel so much. Sure there are random songs in other genres that can elicit the same response, but 9 out of every 10 country songs touches someone in some way. They take you on a journey, it's like watching an entire movie in those 3-4 minutes. It's so beautiful to see someone really get it! I love all genres of music, but country really is magical!

I was 10yr old in 1978 when dad went to a dirt road, stopped the 1971 Trans Am and told me to get behind the wheel. That was the first time I spun the wheels on a car and THAT was accidental! Barely touched the throttle and the wheels were spinning! Dad hollered at me for that but he let me drive about 20 miles! Those were the best days!

My Grandaddy taught me how to drive. He put me on a riding lawn tractor when I was 7. Learned to drive by cutting grass. I have that tractor still today. I’m 51 now.

My grandpa. Every Sunday we went out to eat and went to the flea market. On the way back home he pull over once he get off the main road. He told me to drive use home. I was 10 year old the first time.

I was 13 when dad and I got my 1988 ford ranger. We built it all up and he taught me to drive that old stick shift. Then he gave it to me the day i got my license

I’ve been driving semi since 1998. Little over 2 yrs with Werner, little over 7 yrs with local company in Columbus Ohio. Almost 11 yrs with tire company delivering tires. If you want to get back in it they are making all truck automatic transmission.

Your hat reminds me of a song you might like... "Walk on Faith" by Mike Reid (former NFL player for the Cincinnati Bengals, singer, songwriter). Oh crap, this video is over a year old... doubt you'll see this... but what the heck, gotta give it a shot anyway.... I was a driver myself for a couple years or so... went from one end of an Air Force base to the other, bobtail in an old cab over, and NEVER took that sucker out of 8th gear... we were in a hurry and running late... instructor said get there however you can... so I did... impressed the daylights out of him! Good old Rantoul...kinda miss that place sometimes.... NOT!!!!

Believe it or not,my grandfather taught me how to drive hauling moonshine on the back roads of Alabama.....gas was 27.9cents a gallon...also could you check out Leroy Troy,Ghost chickens in the sky
