You are spot on about country being the best storytelling because that is basically all it is, a story with some good music to back it up. As for Ricky Van Shelton, I can listen to his voice all day long. All his songs are great, even the cover songs. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Great reaction, Billy! Just found this one, and I still love this song as much as I did when it was released. Ricky Van Shelton was, and still is, one of my favourite artists. Saw him in concert so many times between 1990 and 2000 or so, all over the country - Nashville twice; Portland, Salem, Eugene, Newport, Oregon; Tacoma, Washington. I saw that you did a reaction to Rockin' Years, too - another great song! More reactions to any of his songs would be appreciated, as would more reactions to Dan Vasc.

Saw this on the feed and the first thought was 'He is going to love that song for the story and the fact that the chorus takes on different meanings each time it is sung.' Ricky Van Shelton may not have been the biggest star in country music, but he was a hell of a singer. Some songs of his that stand out in my memory would be 'From A Jack To A King', 'I Am A Simple Man', and 'Where Was I'

Your mother was not over dramatic about you starting driving, it was the love she has for you, and she did not want anything to happen to you, the bottom line, speaking of lines. I like how you relate to the song, what you love about country music. Ricky Van Shelton has had one of the most beautiful singing voices in country music. He is retired (turned 70 last month, 2022), but many fans would love him to perform again (me too). From A Nashville Girl (MUSIC CITY USA PROUD!)

this Is a great song. I am a 3rd generation race car driving. When this song was freshly out coming back home from the track the night my dad finally put my in his car for my first race it came on the radio. And even though I already knew it when the song came on that was when and the only time my dad told me how proud he was of me. Not just taking after him in racing but being the kind of kid/man that stood up for others in life. It is a song I hold dearly

I has about 15 when I was first taught to drive. I watched my mom and dad drive my whole life, so I had a good handle on things just from observation, but doing it yourself was kinda daunting. So one day after school, which was 17 miles away down country back roads, my mom pulled the station wagon over, got out and came to the passenger seat. I thought I was in trouble for something, but she opened the door and told me to get in the drivers seat. Excited, she told me to go drive slowly down a dirt road and get a feel for it. I was doing good until there was a car coming the other way, and instead of panicking, I tried to keep to my half of the road. My mom was freaking out, told me to get over repeatedly, then grabbed the wheel and guided it to the side of the road. She told me to get over, but she never said which way! I would have been fine the way I was going. We had a laugh and later did it again, but because she was a bit excitable, I preferred to drive my dad around. So a year later, my dad and I was going up to Mt. Pleasant in our suburban, which was about an hour drive one way and back from Lansing. It was all highway driving, so it was really easy. Now one thing my dad did was subconsciously extend his leg to the floorboard when I was supposed to slow down or stop. So when I was going too fast coming into Mt. Pleasant from the exit ramp, or coming up to a traffic light, he'd unknowingly extend a leg. I got the visual cue, and that was that. Well, one time we were going down the highway at 70mph and he suddenly extended his leg. I saw it out of the corner of my eye, slammed on the brakes. He looked at me confused and asked me what was going on, to which I told him, "I saw your leg stretch to the floorboard real quick, so I thought it meant for me to hit the brakes because you did it real fast!" He laughed and said, "Son, I was just stretching my leg, you need to drive like I wasn't here, because I won't always be in the passenger seat stretching my leg so you know to hit the brakes." After all the driving I did with my folks, I ended up taking drivers ed. in high school as a gym class credit. I had the best grades in the class and the best road scores. My scores might not seem like a lot, I rode with 2 other classmates and the teacher, and we either stopped in the middle of the intersection because a kid timed a stop all wrong, or went down an icy road and a kid got the car stuck in a snowbank because we slid all the way into it. Another time a kid stopped completely in the middle of the highway and wanted to do a U turn because she missed the on ramp. To date, I've been driving for over 25 years, only had one accident, and never got a speeding ticket, but a lot of fix-it tickets because of the suburban I first drove became mine, and it needed A LOT of fixing up and had a mess of faulty electrical issues. But that is a story for another time...

I don't drive because of my severe anxiety and panic attacks! Billy I agree with you about country music, it it the only genre that can make you feel so much. Sure there are random songs in other genres that can elicit the same response, but 9 out of every 10 country songs touches someone in some way. They take you on a journey, it's like watching an entire movie in those 3-4 minutes. It's so beautiful to see someone really get it! I love all genres of music, but country really is magical!
