Ricky Kenerly Cichlids I always have questions always what are their water perms.temp and special needs ones not talked about I'm thinking of getting some of these I love them and suggestions on where I can pick some up I'm putting another tank in my bedroom and I want it to house a colony of these

The ph should be 7.8 or higher. Temperature should be 77 to 82 degrees. They eat more and grow faster at the higher temperature. People told me that they like it cooler but my frontosas are happier closer to 80 to 82 degrees. Sand substrate or crushed coral. The longest aquarium you can purchase is the best for a colony! Caves or hiding spots are essential. I have had the best success with a sinking pellet for cichlid for food.

COOPER'S CICHILDS I've seen them around 2" for less than $20 at Petsmart. Frontosa are not likely to be crossed or hydrids so any store that has them should be fine. Just pick the ones you like. They are all different if you look closely, some have fatter/closer bars, more blue, longer fins, shorter bodies, dark upper lip and a few other characteristics I'm forgetting. Thinking about getting some again soon myself.

Ricky Kenerly Cichlids I've been tempted! Only have one larger aquarium though. Do you think I could get away with 2 or 3 smaller Frontosa in with my Peacocks/Haps? I do know they prefer to be in species only groups but have seen some mixed in with other kinds. Thanks
@RickyKenerlyCichlids7 жыл бұрын
You might could get away with it but they won't thrive with the peacocks and haps in there with them. They tend to keep the frontosas stressed out.

Hi Ricky! Thank you for such a quick response! I will buy him some artificial crab meat today and see how he does with it. Belly is fine. I will keep you posted

Hi Kenny! I need your help desperately!!! I love your fish and videos and I know how knowledgeable you are on this breed. Also Canadian girl recomended I ask you. I have a frontosa arround 8 inches and 12 that are between 2-3 inches give or take...My big boy won't eat anything I throw in the tank. I'm afraid he's going to try to eat the small ones who seem to be scared of him lately. Please help!!!! What can I do?
@RickyKenerlyCichlids7 жыл бұрын
Is his belly swollen? If not my frontosas love artificial crabmeat. You could try that out on him. If his belly is swollen you can try either epsom salts or liquid aloe vera. The epsom salts and/or aloe vera may take a few days to work. Also it would help to know how long you have had him and what his eating habits were previously. If his belly is sunken in more than normal etc. Fish are hard to diagnose even if you see them daily but it is extra hard without more information!

I've been diving in Tanganyika,Malawi and Victoria and the sand was bit darker but I like the algae in your tank..some uneducated people will add plecos to the tank or fight the algae with anti algae solutions . thumbs up, keep these guys happy.
