The 40mm focal length used to be common in the 70'ies on fixed-lens 35mm rangefinder cameras. Kudos to Ricoh-Pentax on even offering the GR IIIx, which is essentially the modern equivalent of a Rollei 35. Both cameras allow the street photographer to leave their camera bag at home. It is definitely a niche camera in today's world, but that's fine.

@vasilakiz3 жыл бұрын
use snap focus
@fishmonkeycow92463 жыл бұрын
@@vasilakiz For me its not the same thing. For people that like to take photos at a specific distance ie 1m/2m/5m or whatever sure, snap focus works fine. But what if I want to be able to focus all distances at a very fast speed while not changing any settings. I've used snap focus on the griii for roughly 2 months, yes it more then useable and I got alot of great photos from that camera(I will likely give the iiix a go also). But the af on say a sony a7riv is just so much faster & flexible, its a different level and makes it easier to capture fleeting moments. Why can't we have a fast af, high res, compact full frame, 35mm lens camera.
@elinavance34763 жыл бұрын
@@fishmonkeycow9246 maybe the sony a7c (full frame) with 50mm f2.5 would be nice for you. (evf is very small)
@fishmonkeycow92463 жыл бұрын
@@elinavance3476 Yea its not a bad option indeed. Good low light, good af etc. Was a little turned off at the release when I saw it didn't have the newer a6xxx grip, front grip scroll wheel or custom buttons, old menu. Felt a little crippled. Its smallish, but the rx1r is quite a bit smaller. The lens is a f2 so still faster then those quite nice g trio primes. Its also double the resolution, which is probably the biggest deal, been able to make large crops is a game changer. So the rx1r is still quite a different camera. If there was a a7cr, with the newer a6xxx grip, scroll wheel and custom buttons I would buy it :) Maybe there is hope as it seems sony won't be doing another rx1r or even pro level a6xxx. a7c is a big seller, I'm sure there will be a new model in a7c in 2022.

Now we just need a Godox trigger so we can make use of the leaf shutter and the teleconverter option. Any new or changed film simulations? The 2gb internal memory is a nice touch, I think only some of the Leicas still have that. A comparison of the Snap modes between this and the 28mm would be useful - to see about accuracy. Thanks Lok + Ricoh + your butler :)

9:50 ok both you and Kai never mentioned this and this just confirmed it...the GRIII AF ONLY supports FACE detection...GRIIIx as seen here has EYE Detection as well...which is great since 40mm will have a bit less DOF at wider apertures and adding the EYE AF would make a more precise AF. I wonder though if they are going to add this to the OG GRIII as firmware update?
@TheLokCheung3 жыл бұрын
Yes they are going to add eye AF to GR III, I’ve forgotten to mention it in video

@@midnightsnack1306 Exactly. At this point it feels really outdated. Particularly when you want to use it for what it’s for, street photography, since you’ll miss so many shots.
