The best part about this particular repaint is the fact that these two can actually COMBINE WITH ARMADA MEGATRON! Seriously! It is a silly as all heck combination, but it works.

You know what I want to see this repainted as? Ransack and Crumplezone. Out of all the duos I've seen in Transformers, they were the most inseparable to me, and they also pulled off the big and little guys while they were both idiots. Sure, they used to be land-based, but Movie Ransack is a plane, so this would be going full-circle.

Once again Thew, Excellent review. Both these guys really are quite standouts in the RID line as well as the other lines they were in before, Dreadwind for just being a huge & stocking brick with alot of missles and wings and Smokejumper for being a nice little "could be Starscream" figure. Hard to say which version of these guys are better since they are lovely to look at.

Glorious! I jumped on these once they showed up at my local Target all those years ago. I still love futzing around with Dreadwing, always space on my shelf for him. Smokesumper's okay. I feel like he's a proof of concept for the Cyber Jets though, which are just better, more solid toys all around. Good call holding off on the missile demo till the end. I was waiting you to unleash that barrage all video.

i absolutely love these toys. got them on my birthday in 2003 after a dissapointing day that ended with me going to TRU, found them for about £12 on clearance and have adored the two of them ever since. one of the best purchases i've made.

"The small guy needs to be smarter, or why would the big guy need him?" You know, it makes more sense if you think about it. Why does Megatron need Starscream, and it's almost uncanny how Starsream fits up what would've been Megatron's aft end. Suddenly it comes together.

Were you aware that Smokejumper's missile launchers can mount on his forearms? I just liked them that way, so I noticed it wasn't mentioned. Granted I started liking his name more once I understood it (I am guessing the big guy creates plenty of fires for Smokejumper to dive into), plus I like grey, green, and grey green decos on quasi-realistic military alternate modes. Well, at least vaguely realistic.

Love you to death, Thew, but I was just a tiny bit disappointed you didn't realize Smokejumper is actually a Powermaster for Dreadwind. There's a little latch just inside the cockpit that the Decepticrotch catches onto that unlocks the wings when you pull back. Overall, still nicely done, as always, as the review I filmed for the duo will probably never be posted now due to how inferior it is in comparison.

You forgot to mention the bombs can drop off by pressing the pressure buttons on the wings! HOW COULD YOU FORGET?! Great review otherwise. Have the Japanese G2 version of the mold and so wanted the Beast Wars 2 version. Same with Pirahnacon. And Trypticon. Man BW2 had some great color choices for their 95% repaint line.

thew is back and he brings FORTEEN MISSILES bought my dread and smoke ages ago off teh ebay but they didnt come with no stickers (save the decepticrotches). bummer indeed. you should probably check out energon starscream who borrows smokey's engineering but holds together better. oh and the combination serves a purpose in the sense that pull smokey back out again sometimes triggers a little catch which flips dreadwing's wings up ready for tank mode. holler indeed

While the figures are incredibly lovely, I feel the G2 versions win out on best color scheme. They just look so delicious with those deep blues, and light blues and glowing reds. They almost look edible. Though maybe that's not a good feature for decepticons to have. Still though. It gives that "from the shadows" kind of feeling. You know when the villains are talking in some mysterious dark place and they have that blue lighting on them sometimes? It's like that.
