So tired for every idiot writing this under every bloody video with Ride. Is it some kind of projection? The drummer could have been replaced and the band would have earned the same kind of success. Bell and Gardener were the ones who actually made the music. He is an OK drummer and that's it.

First year of college. A friend owed me money so gave me his electric guitar instead. This is the first song I learned. Not that difficult, but it sounded so cool with the amp and an open window. I had a few girls in the dorms come to hear me play this track over and over. Felt like Johnny Marr(or insert guitar hero here) for five hot seconds before they got bored and moved on...love Ride and all of indie Brit pop from that era!

This song is why "Smells Like Teen Spirit" didn't surprise me when it came out. I had already been listening to some heavier 80's "alternative" bands, and when Ride hit the scene in 1990 it was like a culmination. Nirvana just seemed like a more aggressive version along that same continuum. I think that to the average person who hadn't heard any of the earlier stuff "Smells Like Teen Spirit" must have sounded like it came out of nowhere.

I researched Ride's influences and here's what I've gathered: 1. The Beatles (Andy: "I was learning from a Beatles songbook... The track "Seagull" uses backwards guitars and the same baseline.") Sources - interview on KZbin, top 5 Pre-Nowhere influences 2. Spacemen Three 3. Sonic Youth (Mark: "I like the sort of, aspect of it... This band could only, you know, HAD TO be coming out of New York." ) Source - Sonic Youth Pioneers. 4. The Smiths (Andy: "Johnny Marr was a huge influence on me. For a few years, I was just soaking up his style.") Source: KZbin interview. 5. The Cure 6. The Stone Roses 7. The Rolling Stones 8. The Byrds 9. The Beach Boys 10. Buffalo Springfield 11. Maggie May 12. Rod Stewart 13. Cocteau Twins 14. My Bloody Valentine 15. Status Quo 16. Suicide 17. The Red Crayola 18.13th Floor Elevators Have I missed any?

I love Ride like I love the Jam. They have been there for me for three decades. How is Nowhere 30 years old?! Yikes. RIDE are really a BAND. All of these lads are just fantastic at their parts. Except that drummer! Loz, Loz, Loz, Loz, Loz..... is not fantastic. He's.....? He's my dream drummer. I hear the Moonisms but Loz is Loz and what a class act. He could hit a potato and make it sound like Moon on the Who's Live at Leeds. And he's a smashing bloke to boot! This song is one of the greatest, finest and best examples of how great POP music can be. If played with purpose, heart and controlled abandonment, that is. The producer, Alan Moulder should also get some credit. He had so much to do with how this band sounded in the studio as well as live.
