One of the best values on the market, our Ride1UP 700 Series review puts the bike to the test to better understand how the motor, brakes, battery and more stack up in real world conditions.
The 750W geared Shengyi rear hub motor helps the bike get up to class 3 speeds peaking at 28 mph, and the bike rolls on Schwalbe Super Moto-X 27.5×2.4” tires - tires we quickly grew to love.
The Tektro hydraulic disc brakes provide the stopping power on the Ride1up 700 Series, and they work as well as we expected.
A rear rack, integrated front and rear lights and front and rear suspension help round out a full commuter package.
For insights into what we think about the performance and value watch the video and let us know your thoughts down in the comments below.

Plenty of words about the looks, but not one word about the fork, nothing about lights, sturdiness of the rear rack, parts availability, etc. The tests were appreciated, but any comments like "stealthiness" really has nothing to do with the bike's features.

The best reviews on Electric Bicycles online by a long shot. I especially appreciate these in depth reviews when E-Bikes are becoming the new norm more and more. It's nice that you cover the majority of e bikes from low to high end. You're doing us all a favor and I hope your channel grows immensely from now into the future. Excellent coverage on specs and geometry and your overall review from the tires up. You guys don't really miss a thing and usually have me drooling geeking out about specs. Cheers. I just got this bike with the new Bafang motor and 15ah battery, it’s plenty peppy, I’ve had it up to 28 mph with throttle and peddle assist. I set it up for 0-9 levels of assist rarely need over level 5. Easily climbs hills. It’s heavy and solid but you don’t notice when riding it. I seem to be getting at least 50 or more miles on a full charge. Best value and I did a lot of research.

Sam and team, thank you so much for this review! When I was shopping around heavily for e-bikes at the beginning of this year, this is the one I kept going back to. I ended up unfortunately not being able to make a purchase at this time, but I still think I would have ended up with the 700. I really enjoy your frankness and professionalism in these reviews, that torque issue is definitely something that I didn't know about before outside of usual hub motorbike versus mid-drive, I'm glad that you were very direct about the upsides and downsides of this bike. Will definitely keep a close eye on this model if an opportunity arises to get it, along with any revisions that come down the line.

@@ElectricBikeReport if only Mr IRS wasn't so mean this year But really, I truly appreciate it it's really good to see, so the local bike shops I've been to have been super anti-hub motor, but honestly mid drives are just more expensive overall. I think the only thing I would like to see is more long-term reports about stuff but that does take time, because I've heard stuff about hub motors over time being less reliable, but again long-term does take time and the more affordable e-bikes are still relatively new.

I bought the step through version of this model and am very happy with it. I attach a trailer to the back of it to take my two 20 pound dogs to the parks that are about 5 miles away with some hills. It requires almost no effort and feels very solid. When I take off the trailer then the bike really takes off! I love my Ride1Up 700 ST! Only issue so far was on a killer hill, with the trailer, it couldn’t make it to the top.

@@bernievassallo3336 Given that it's an assist ebike and I'm only 170 lbs and in pretty good bike shape, I can climb any hills in Flagstaff Az with just around 350-400 watts of power. I only use full power from the thumb throttle when I need a quick little burst of speed to cross the street or to get moving quicker. Something to consider: the control unit allows you to customize your power outputs. You can get lots more performance by making changes to the settings. I changed my computer to have 9 levels from 1-9. Each level represents a 10% jump in power, so level five will be around 500 watts, level 9 will have 990 watts. Change the maximum amperage to 18 amps, or even 20 amps. This will help with the torque issues. Play around with the settings, and the bike will do much better.

@OutnBacker
@OutnBacker Жыл бұрын
The 700XR is a tall bike, no question about it. If you have an inseam of 30 inches, stand over is about right - but, swinging a leg over the bike can be awkward if you have the saddle at the proper height. I lean the bike towards me at a steep angle, then step over the bar because the saddle is at the bottom of my belt line to facilitate proper leg extension while pedaling. If this review helps, I have over 50,000 bicycle miles under my butt and know how to set up a bike for maximum efficiency and comfort. If you are 5'10 or taller, the saddle will be pretty high to prevent the knees from coming up so high that they reduce downward power and get sore. Set your saddle so the legs bend about 15-20 degrees when the lower pedal is at the bottom of the power stroke without tip toeing. As a starting point, set the saddle to the same height as the hand grips, tilt it for minimum pressure, and go from there. The vast majority of riders of all bikes have the saddle too low. Hope this helps.

It's unfortunate that this video is already out of date. I think in March, Ride 1 Up started shipping the 700 with a Bafang motor instead of Shingyi and larger 15ah battery. So the bike you order today will be different than the one in the one in the video. Hopefully the newer one is improved. It also says 5 levels of pedal assist but it can be changed to up to 9. The EU regulation is terrible, like most EU regulation, it is against progress, it is againt freedom, it is against our citizens and it is fully dictated by vested interests. Anyway if anyone has been able to import one I would be interest to know how long it took and how much was the xtra cost.

The hill test on the bike showed it’s weakness. Sad.

In our opinion, if it gets you up the hill on PAS it is a win. Nearly half fail on throttle - it's a hill that is more extreme than the typical so we wouldn't count it out for the hill results.

Not sad at all. My 700, with the older motor does fine on hills no matter the setting. It's all in how hard you pedal.

Very well produced review, however.... Warranty Support from Ride1Up is non-existant, I have purchased 2 of these bikes and they are really hit or miss, inferior screws break, after doing everything the "warranty" department asked they always would come up with another reason why screw failures were my fault. Seriously? I have basically $1600 wasted in one of these poorly made bikes. If you local bike shop doesnt support an Ebike dont buy it.

You disqualify a bike because of screws??? At this price point, try to find screws on any e-bike that aren't mild steel. If you want 303 stainless, go to a bike shop and buy ten for $6.

Aventon clone?
@Pippokpax
@Pippokpax 2 жыл бұрын
Both bikes are based on a Chinese frame that is customized and shipped to their respective companies. They are clones of each other because they are essentially the same bike frame, battery, and motor. Other component choices are made by ride1up or aventon.

The 700 model was released a few years ago. At the time, I cross-shopped it against the Aventon Level, which bore many similarities, and a couple other brands and models. Eventually, I bought the LMT’d from Ride1up as it weighed less, its motor put out more torque (100Nm), and at the time, it came with a torque sensor. However, Aventon bikes have the nicest-looking welds I’ve seen on aluminum frames. And their throttles now work when PAS is at the zero setting.

@@chow-chihuang4903 I noticed that Aventon bikes are moving into bike shops with a rise in costs. The Pace 500 now costs a much as the 700 and the level costs $100 more.

@@chow-chihuang4903 Aventon throttles DO NOT work on PAS zero. I am an Aventon dealer in Sacramento and carry hundreds of Aventon units, and I can tell you with certainty that in Pedal Assist Setting 0, the throttle and pedal assist DO NOT work.

I don’t care for the throttle on the left. 98% of the world is right handed, why would you want to use your weakest hand to control the most important and dangerous part of the bike? Makes no sense. 🤨

Often times shifting is on the right though so they try to split duties of each hand.

Because you aren't expected to use the throttle enough to make it an issue. It takes about five minutes to get used to it - and - the "walk" feature assumes you walk the bike from the left side. Most people do. hey, they had to chose. Maybe they flipped a coin. Not everyone is going to be happy.

This bike has been consistently well reviewed across multiple websites and KZbin channels. They’re review was fairly critical of the shortcomings of the 700 while pointing out the value you get with the bike. Not really sure what you are complaining about.

Hi there Keith. A couple things: first, yes, we charge brands for our time in making these reviews. This payment covers our time only and is not for an endorsement - the opinions expressed here are our own. Second, many motors fail the hill test on the throttle, we don't think that makes it a bad motor, and the PAS assisted time was decent. In terms of hill climbing without rider assistance, sure, we would say it scores lower, but that doesn't make it a bad motor or bike though, in our opinion. With a little leg power, it does just fine and doesn't tax the rider. But we get it - different strokes for different folks. If motors that can dominate any hill with you doing as little work as possible is your selling point then maybe it isn't the bike for you. Thanks for watching all the same!

@@ElectricBikeReport Can you please confirm what motor was used for this review? Was it the latest shipping motor (Bafang) or the original motor (Shengyi) that Ride1Up had originally shipped? Thank you!

Schilling for another brand? The 700 is competitive with any in this price range. Lots of factors affect hill performence. Mine is as solid as a motorcycle, and takes turns at the same speeds as I do on my 650 Suzuki. No wobble, no handling issues.
