My best friend of 50+ years lives 10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Summit in PA. It's a fun ride from the Summit to Mt Holly Springs PA and back for a nice day trip of about 112 miles, Section 6 is a great ride! Beginning at MT Holly Springs to end at McVeytown PA. You get a fair bit of twisty roads and a lot of fire roads with many elevation changes and turns of all kinds!! Just wonderful!! For a FULL day in the saddle, ride from McVeytown PA all the way to the Blue Ridge Summit on the BDR and then an additional 59 road miles to home in MD. I cannot wait to see what sections 7.8 & 9 bring!!! MANY THANKS!!! to the crew(s) that put this and all the other BDR routes together!!! Your Labor Of Love is very much appreciated!!! We Adventure riders can never repay you!!!! Bryan from central MD.

I had the pleasure of riding the route North to South with my daughter a couple of years ago. I'm also fortunate to live 30 miles from the northern end so I get to ride much of the PA section often. The route is such a wonderful blend of dirt roads and splendid back country twisties. Combine that with all the history along the way and you have all the ingredients for a memorable ride. Thank you so much to the folks responsible for making this happen.

Excellent job, guys! You outdid yourself Sterling. I know, you had good talent, that helps. This runs through my back yard. I've ridden the Shenandoah 500 roads Jack mentioned for years before I even learned of the event. Cracked me up when, I forget who, said he didn't see any large farms, cow herds, or dairies in Virginia. I guess he didn't ride through here or was busy watching the road. I'm trying to count the dairies within a one mile radius of here... 10-20. 100+ acres each. Our farm in VA is over 100 acres. I suggest you have an alternate route into Brandywine instead of 220 come up through the GWNF. I can give you a specific route for the project if you ask. Thanks for the entertainment. Take it easy and ride fun!

Another fantastic video. I think it's worth noting that someone could spend a few days if not a week in some of the forests you passed through. Micheux has at least a couple days, same with Bald Eagle. Allegheny is absolutely massive, you could get lost in there. Try not to be there first weekend in June, STPR owns the forest for that weekend and the week after is super busy with leftover traffic.

I just found out the MA BDR was a thing a few weeks ago. Rode the TAT last year and knew that BDR's were all over the West (ran into more BDR riders than TAT riders in SD, WY and ID) but was only aware of the NE BDR out our way (planning to ride it this year). Was very cool to find out the Northern End of the MA BDR is nearly in my backyard (I work 10 minutes away, live a bit further than that). I've already been on a lot of the route in Northern PA but would have a lot of new roads as it goes farther south.

@elgringoec2 жыл бұрын
How do you conclude they *didn't* save the turtle? Can you use a map? That's the first and most important step, map skills. The GPS unit has basically three functions: 1) display map (with details) 2) pinpoint its location on the map 3) a third function of modern units less useful to navigators yet probably the only thing that matters to non-navigators is the ability to display and usually speak directions to a chosen destination from its current location. That's what brought mass appeal to the units. Operating the unit is no more involved than operating KZbin. They come with instructions.

Your comment makes me smile. I thought that as well. No chance/nor should they change it, they’re just trying to sell the East Coast as something different and special. You sound overly triggered over this. The east cost is significantly different than the west coast by every measurable metric. That’s not a good or bad thing, it just is. Disappointing to see you make light of the confederate pride section in Brandywine WV. I watch these videos knowing I can navigate the toughest roads and trails, but I worry I may have an issue getting a place to sleep or a bite to eat (or worse). I’ve been warned about traveling abroad as an American, pretty crazy I have to worry about traveling in America as an American thru a cozy American town. Though I refuse to listen, stuff like this doesn’t help. Anyway, beside the “pride” section I enjoy the video and hope to complete as many BDRs as you make. I want to emphasize I do not think your organization endorses anything, just know some of us want to ride, and ride in peace. I’m exhausted of being warned by concerned white friends that Idaho is a bad idea, parts of Oregon, Washington, etc. I just want to ride. Also over 58,000+ American lives lost in Vietnam war, Battle of Antietam 22,000+ (I’m a history buff). Keep the rubber side down, as much as you can🙏👍

Amen man. I’ll ride with you anytime.

I had an entirely different comment about not worrying too much about Confederate Pride. Although, I believe that to be true most of the time, you indirectly bring up a good point. The BDR team isn't exactly diverse. I'm not a proponent of forced diversity, but in this context, I take exception. I think seeing how male/female, black, hispanic, asian, indigenous, homosexual, etc., team members are treated at attractions, stores, restaurants, overnight accomodations, etc. is valuable data for determining the route and recommended vendors. Generally, I think riders spend too little time in any one place for problems to erupt. But, it happens, and it'd be better to have a sense for where it might happen, and just route around those places. One certainly wouldn't want to financially contribute to those places/vendors either.
@xxxenricop2 жыл бұрын
You've been warned about travelling abroad?! Because of race?! That's such a weird statement. I have travelled noth Africa, northern countries, southern and middle Europe and the US. The latter is the only place where I've seen and experienced awkward situations because of race as a visitor...
@soundshinedj2 жыл бұрын
@@xxxenricop Abroad not race related, more about being an American. I want to mountain bike, dirt bike in some countries that aren’t necessarily friendly. Then again, can’t live your life in fear. I believe being a good human, bringing positive vibes in my travels will make folks think differently about me as a minority and and me as American. I don’t want to hide either one or shy away. All good, don’t want to hijack a great video. Us together is a better story than us divided.
@soundshinedj2 жыл бұрын
@@norsefalconer I kinda regret my comment, I let my anxiety get the best of me. Just like folks who warn you about riding motorcycles saying they knew someone who got hurt or killed on a motorcycle, I’ve let comments from concerned friends about being careful in certain areas get to me. Thing is these friends are outdoorsmen, and I do value their opinion. They love to hunt, I love to ride. They don’t say “avoid”, they just give me that concerned look and say “brother be careful around there”. A lot of it to is I go alone a lot, as my schedule permits. I’m sure everyone is fine. For every one nut job there are 10,000 great people, maybe more 😊. I guess they are worried about the nuts, don’t know.

I deleted my original comment after reading another comment on this thread and replaced it with the following: The BDR team isn't exactly diverse. I'm not a proponent of forced diversity, but in this context, I take exception. I think seeing how male/female, black, hispanic, asian, indigenous, alternate lifestyle, etc., team members are treated at attractions, stores, restaurants, overnight accomodations, etc. is valuable data for determining these routes and recommending vendors. Generally, I think riders spend too little time in any one place for problems to erupt. But, it happens, and it'd be better to have a sense for where it might happen, and just proactively route around those places. One certainly wouldn't want to financially contribute to those places/vendors either. I'm a Southern White Christian Conservative that served for 7 yrs in defense and support of US citizens' freedom, ALL US citizens' freedom. And I feel that if prejudice and/or racism prevents a BDR from going through an area, or being made at all, that's rational and intelligent.

Why does the bike matter? I’d honestly prefer seeing someone ride an older bike, do you want them all riding 25k gs1250s? This sport already has a pretty high entry price with gear alone, seeing someone do it without a brand new bike is nice. Being on the board means very little, I don’t think the BDR is raking in cash to the point they are paying much at all, if anything.

Correction on the Antietam battle comment. The battle took place on Sept. 17th 1962. In the one day battle (not two) the total number of deaths on both sides combined was 3,675 killed. The total numbered of wounded on both sides combined was 17,301wounded. As for the number of death and wounded in Vietnam. From November, 1st 1955 to April 6th 1975 there were 58,281 Killed and 303,644 wounded that required Hospital care and 150,341 the didn't require hospital care. So to say that more men were killed at Antietam than in Vietnam. Well. Sorry.That just isn't true. But, what is true. Up until the battle of Franklin Tennessee, Antietam was the Bloodies one day battle during the Civil War according to History books but Again. You won't read this in a History book so here is a FACT!! At Franklin (AKA) the Picketts charge of the West, on November 30th 1864 in only five hours of battle THAT'S RIGHT! Five hours of battle. There were 6,152 Confederates killed ( including six Generals) and 3,800 wounded. On the intrenched side hiding behind breastworks the Unions total was 189 killed and 1,033 wounded in five hours. That's why it isn't in the History books and all you hear about is Gettysburg and Antietam and not about Franklin Tennessee.
