I bought a solid black one a few years ago to replace a BERSA Thunder 380 that failed on me. It's a great conceal carry pistol in warm weather, perfect for shorts wearing. I've had no misfires and find it very accurate, even out to 25 yards.

The take-down pin has never been a problem in the 900 rounds I have put through mine. The only time the pin has moved is when I want to take it apart for cleaning. As a Journeyman Toolmaker, there is no issue with the pin. The ONLY way the pin moves is holding the gun on it's side, and slowly moving the slide until the holes line up. When is anyone ever going to do this with the gun? When they disassemble it for cleaning. I cannot fathom any time that it would cause a problem with using the gun since these conditions are the only time a person would meet those conditions for the pin to move. I love my RM380 as it has fired everything I ever put through it. Never had to double strike. This was my first gun, so the DAO trigger was appreciated for safety while carrying one in the chamber. Now I carry a nine, and the only time I carry this gun is hot summer days with certain outfits that makes carrying the nine impossible without printing. Sometimes in a pocket, sometimes in a holster AIWB. I have two mags with the pinky extension. I won't bother with the flat bottomed mag as the extension is really needed for control.

I've had mine for 2 years and 950 rounds. It feeds and fires everything. It has not failed to hold open on last round. I have never had a problem with the take-down pin. The only time it falls out of place is when I want it to for cleaning. In practical use it has never been a problem. It is less snappy than an LCP, Bodyguard380, and LCP II. I did buy a second mag with finger extension. It handles better with it than without. I got the wood grips for a nicer appearance, but their slightly thicker dimension also aids with control. Love this gun.

I had that takedown pin lock me up as well. I didn’t know what was locking it so I took it to the range and a gunsmith use a small punch to push the pin back in. No charge, nice guy. I now know what not to do and how th fix if needed. Thanks for the video!

Interesting review, got one for the wife but she does not like the sights, easy to chamber was why. When we fired the gun it was reliable. Only shot half a box maybe. Yes heavy grease is what was recommended, I've never had it happen with the gun was fired or when working the slide. Good review

A lot of ppl blow off re-strike capability until they need it...then it's a great feature! Some brands of ammo are prone to light strikes because of hard primers. Of course I only use those at the range, but it's nice to not have to rack the slide.
@RidersRange
@RidersRange 3 жыл бұрын
Marked Man, thanks or watching and adding your perspective. The second strike issue will never be agreed on and it all depends on how one trains. If you train to do a second strike and that doesn't work in a life-and-death encounter, you have just wasted precious seconds and you still have to clear the failure to fire. To each their own.

6 years and almost 2,000 rounds, the pin has never been a problem in mine. As you demonstrated, what it takes to get the pin to interfere with the slide is something that never happens...unless the gun is being disassembled for cleaning.

Hi. Bought mine three years ago. Carries nicely with a BORAII kydex trigger guard in the front pocket. Have three mags, and have never experienced it failing to lock slide open on last round. Also have never had the take down pin falling out, even gangsta style. It's been a good one. Has never failed to go bang. The metal frame helps control recoil, and the long trigger pull is important, in a pocket gun. Also own an r51, and rp45/, with a 9mm(rp9) conversion. All three are excellent runners! Nice review.

Jeff, thanks for watching and sharing your experience. Of all the .380s of this type, the RM380 has the best trigger, but those sights are, well, I'll be kind - they aren't the best. Also, my R51 has run just fine.

@@RidersRange yeah sights are what they are. They're ok for what it's for... Up close, and dirty! Seen youtube video on r51 mag fix. I believe it was titled, r51 finally fixed. The guy cut approximately 3/16" off of the follower legs, as the fully loaded mags were so tight, with the last (7th) round. I check mine out, and sure enough, there wasn't ANY extra room. When using a speed loader, you couldn't push that last round down at all! Even though I've never experienced any malfunctions, I went ahead and cut all three of my mags down. Now, you can sure feel the difference when you rack in that first round. Quite a bit smoother operation. Always enjoy shooting it, when it's, IT'S turn at the range!kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4uln3idmbapi7c

Bought a Rem 380 from Palmetto State. Not looking for one. But with rebate I paid $129 several years ago. Had a few jams first time out. Disassembled and took jeweler polish to ramp and inside chamber. Never had a hiccup since. Ran 100 Underwood 380+P Xtreme Defender through with no problems so that is carry ammo. Galloway Precision offers some parts for them. Reduced springs and magazine extensions that are top quality. I love the little guy. Bought a 9 mm Shield on sale too. Great gun but just not for me. Just as soon carry Rem 380 if I’m going light weight.

Everyone complains about that pin… but this is NOT a tactical go to war pistol. It’s something you throw in your pocket and retrieve in an emergency. Press checks are a moot issue. You have to actually try to make the pin fall out.

I agree that the RM380 isn't "a tactical go to war pistol", but when it comes to saving your life, it needs to run 100% every time, not 99.9%. Thanks for watching.

I bought my RM380 (with a laser) a little over 2 years ago, and haven't used it much once I bought a slightly larger (but still pocket carriable) Sig P365 about 6 months later--at which time the RM380 essentially was retired. At that time, I'd only fired a little over 100 rounds through it. I recently took it out to check it out, and despite being in almost new condition with negligible use (and no drops), the trigger bar started slipping off the hammer boss when the trigger was pulled, resulting in ... nothing. I had to locate a new trigger bar and right side grip panel, because (believe it or not), the design of the RM380 used the plastic right grip panel to keep keep the trigger bar in place. A little wear (very little here) from the bar rubbing against the panel, and some flexing of the panel due to warm pockets, warm hands or a warm climate (I live in So. Fla.) is all it takes to make this a paperweight. The replacement parts weren't all that expensive (and should have been under warranty, except that Remington is now just the name of a new company since it went bankrupt and was liquidated)--just hard to find (and I was only able to find a single source for the trigger bar). How long my 'updated' RM380 will go before the same issue arises is unknown, and somewhat disconcerting. That's why I'll keep the P365 as my EDC, and the RM380 only as a backup in case something happens to the P365. So while it's a very good .380 (and can be a 7+1 with a Galloway Precision +1 mag extender), if you don't already own this little beauty, I'd highly recommend taking a good look at the new 12+1 Ruger Max .380 instead of buying the RM380, since there's no longer any reliable support for it, and the slipping trigger bar seems to be a rather common issue. Too bad, since I really like the ergonomics of the RM380.

Ya its not a bad little gun Ive had several of them. A couple years back you could pick one of these up new for a little over 100 bucks with the generous rebate that came with it. Now that Remington is defunct the price is going to go up on these. Thats just the nature of the beast. Same thing with the little Kel Tec P32 and P11. I remember you could get those for a little over 100 bucks but not anymore! There going for over 400 now and the price will continue to go up on firearms that are hard to get these days.

I had that question about Remington. If you couldn’t find an answer, I doubt I will. I’m always amused with reviews of these very small guns that make sights an issue. It’s difficult enough to make a self defense case in court but when the “threat” is many yards away a prosecutor’s job is easier... For the past month or so I’ve been looking to replace the J Frame I carry with something smaller and lighter, but since every gun I looked at is out of stock, I’m getting one of these from a friend. I had one some time ago, but traded it for something else. Enjoy your videos....subbed...
