I got mine for around $260, wasn't even looking for a gun but thought for this price what the hell especially since I didn't have a 9mm. I have fired over a 1000 rds thru mine now and can honestly say that I've had only one issue with ammo, had a round that didn't fire and on the 2nd pull of the trigger it fired. The only mechanical issue I've had with this gun is the front site got loose one day at the range, I tighten the sight with no other issues. It is my everyday carry gun, and by the way I use 15 round mags. I've used a variety of ammo with this gun, especially since the ammo varies from range to range. Love this gun.

I got the Taurus G3C and got FMJ rounds and I got Federal Premium Jacketed Hollow Point rounds, 147 grains and my FMJ is 100 grains. Has anyone tested the Jacketed Hollow Point rounds? I just got mine last week shot for the first time today. Did 50 rounds of Remington 115gr perfectly fine then tried Federal 115gr and had 13 jams/misfeeds out of the 50 rounds. Put both bullets together and noticed the Remington rounds were slightly shorter in size. Bought another generic 9mm box and compared it to the Federal and it was the same size and would misfeed as well.

I just picked up a G3c recently and finally got around to taking it to the range today (first time firing it). I was using Winchester 115 grain practice rounds (100 count) and my gun locked up on me multiple times... and by multiple times I don't mean 2-3 I mean more like 15 times or more. The carry ammo I bought for it had a clip of Federal 124 grain personal defense w/ Hydra-shok and that fired the entire clip without any issues. At the moment I'm blaming Winchester because I was unable to fire 3 bullets even after I tried putting them back in a clip a couple of times and all three would not fire each time I retried them, so I'm guessing bad primers or just bad quality control.

Elessar, thank you for watching and commenting. I've found that with many guns, particularly "budget" guns, the quality control may not be consistent. There are many that work very well, but some seem to slip through that aren't as accurate, aren't as reliable, or just aren't built quite as well as the majority. I'm comfortable enough with my G3c that I carry it when working around my property, but I prefer other guns when I go out in public.

I was surprised you had issues with the 124 grain bullets as I have used brand new 124 grn FMJ Magtechs with no feeding or extraction issues. My groups with both of my G2s are great at 7 yards and 10 yards. Both are surprisingly accurate for me. I've had the G2,G2c,g3, and received my 2nd g3c a few hours ago. I had a few jammers thru breakers periods with some of them, less than 4 times maybe. But the only time I had serious issues was with the G2 shooting some exotic frangible 90 grain rounds at the range on day. And after market pro mags wouldn't cycle any hollow points with any of the Tauruses I've had. With everyone I've owned, after about 100 rounds and EOS mags, ive had no issues with them, except those 90 grain frangible arounds.

The whole safety issue can be solved by simply keeping your finger off the trigger when using it as well as getting a good holster that keeps it secure so that the safety which in my opinion doesn’t get in the way nor move on it’s own unless you want it to. This is a topic that shouldn’t have never been an issue until reviewers began making it a issue. I understand that many people are skeptical of Taurus guns, but the G2C/G3C have redeemed them. The G2C was my first gun and I still own and carry it. I see no issues. Just keeping it pushing.

I had a g2c I traded in, though I wouldn’t mind picking up a g3c as a backup. But the g2c didn’t have too many issues with any ammo I ran through it, brass cased anyway since that’s where the range I go to requires you to use. It seemed that after a few hundred rounds or so on the g2c that the gun really started to do better and loosened up a bit by 1000 rounds give or take.

Still need to break it in a bit more. It runs practice shells just fine but occasionally a little trouble chambering the first hollow point. Maybe just running it more will loosen it up. Definitely keeping it for a house gun as a backup. For what you pay they really are fine weapons.

I've had the Taurus Taurus G2C and the G3C. The G3C is a refined version of the G2C. Glock compatible sights which I promptly put night sights on it right away. The trigger is better than the previous model, but certainty not as good as the Canik. I've had pretty good luck with the Taurus Taurus G2C and the G3C. It is my truck gun, I carry a Ruger SR9C for my EDC which also has a manual safety and a better trigger. Taurus has made some huge strides in the right direction. The safety issue? Well, you would have to continuously put it into that condition and a newbe might inadvertently do that, but most experienced shooters wouldn't. Good honest review of a affordable handgun that does offer quite a bit for the money invested.

But if you regularly practice with your defensive gun at greater distances - 25 yards with occasional practice at even greater distances - you will perform better with your gun at those "average" distances. I'm just telling you what I've experienced, low left misses are so common in subcompacts using "light" bullets that it's almost a foregone conclusion. Lighter smaller guns (barrels or ammo) means more movement on the shot and it's a matter of maximizing the hardware and minimizing the movement... it's not the gun. Thomas, I guess "budget" is a subjective term. When one is used to paying $500 for a Glock or $1,500 for a good 1911, $300 is more of a "budget" gun. However, the G3c is a great value at that price. Wallaby, the G3c has a lot going for it. It's probably the best value out there for a compact 9mm. I have several Glocks in the safe, but my go-to pistol when I'm working around the range and doing household projects is the G3c, not a Glock.

Comparing/reviewing a $300 gun to a $500 + gun isn’t a comparison/review. I have hundreds of rounds through my G3C without fail (it’s only a couple months old). I expect that to continue which others have done. And as far as the wonky safety/trigger ding, who does this? I’ve found that the G3C likes 147 grain rounds. You can’t replace practice and getting to know how your gun shoots and with what ammo it likes to eat.

The whole point of comparing guns in different price brackets is often to show that more money doesn't always equate to better. In our 22-part The Great Affordable 1911 Series, less expensive guns often performed as well as, or even better than, the more expensive guns. It's hard to beat a G3c at the price point and it holds its own against several more expensive pistols. Thanks for watching and for commenting.

No, it's not. Ignore that nonsense. If I picked up a firearm for the very first time, engaging the safety mid trigger pull would never cross my mind. This is one of those things in my opinion that shouldn't be demonstrated in the first place. Demonstrating how to handle a firearm incorrectly serves no purpose other than transferring and instilling those bad habits in viewers who don't know any better. I would never teach someone to engage the manual safety mid trigger pull. It's illogical. With that being said, I'm not trying to bash Mr. Rider's-Range or TheHumbleMarksman. I understand they're trying to review the firearm in its entirety and demonstrate all of the firearm's capabilities. The best safety in my opinion is to keep your booger hook off the bang switch until you're ready and certain that you want to discharge the firearm. That's what I've been taught my entire life by family, friends and most recently my BLET instructors. It has worked out pretty well for me so far and has always made the most sense. How you train is how you'll react in real world situations. Be smart and train the correct way every time you handle a firearm. Just my two cents.

@RidersRange
@RidersRange Жыл бұрын
The "statistical average" for a defensive situation is less than 10 yards. However, I don't train to the statistics, I train to the unicorns. If I only shoot at 10 yards or less, I don't know how I will perform with my gun at greater distances, should the need arise. But if I know how I perform with a gun at 25 or 50 yards, I KNOW I can perform with it at closer distances. Plus, I like the challenge of hitting small targets at 50 yards with a small gun.

I've got a question about a new G2c I bought a few days ago. After field stripping and cleaning the gun, I put a magazine loaded up with American Eagle 124 gr FMJ and chambered a round. It feed the round into the chamber just great. But when I took out the Mag and tried to rack the slide back to eject the chambered round, the slide was stuck. It would only slightly pull back and stop. Just totally locked up. I managed to get it unlocked by holding the back of the slide and smacking the back of the grip.. Once it broke free- the slide came back like normal and the round ejected just fine. I thought it was broke and it was going back to the factory, which I didn't want to do. I've had contact with their customer service. To put it nicely-they SUCK.! So anyway, I thought maybe it was a bad round or just didn't like the AE 124 gr bullet. I then tried some AE 115 gr FMJ. Chambered and ejected those as it should. Slide didn't lock up. Next, I tried Winchester NATO 124 gr. No problems. It worked as good as the AE 115 gr FMJ. I've got several other brands of 9mm. I'm going to dig them out and try them all next. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I'm not even going to try to fire the AE 124 gr- or any others that happen to freeze up the slide. This G2c seems a little picky about the ammo it likes. I've used AE124 gr for several years and never have had a problem with it. Hell, I've never seen a gun lock up like this one does. I do like the gun. If it don't like a brand or 2, I can live with that. I'm thinking maybe it has a tight extractor. It seems to have a very stiff spring. Might just need broken in. Do any of you have any ideas why it would do this with 1 of the 3 loads I've tried so far? Have any of you had this problem with your G2 or G3?
@RidersRange
@RidersRange 3 жыл бұрын
Shadow Wolf, I've had that happen on other guns, but not on my G3c. I usually find one of two issues, though there could be others. (I've never had any issue with 124gr American Eagle.) 1) The bullet of the chambered round contacting the rifling. This will happen with a short lead (distance between the end of the chamber and the start of the rifling), or with a long bullet profile before the shoulder and ogive. I found that if I load Montana Gold 124gr hollow point bullets to my normal overall length, they will hit the rifling in several different guns and lock up as yours did, but 124gr round nose works fine. Next time you try that round, darken the bullet with a Sharpie and see if the rifling leaves marks on the bullet. 2) Oversize cartridge case. I have only had this a couple times with off-brand 9mm steel case, never with any major brand. Let us know what you find out.

@@RidersRange Update- I tried 5 more different assorted rounds this morning. Geco 124 FMJ, UMC 115 gr FMJ, UMC 124 gr FMJ, UMC 115 gr jhp and Federal 147 gr Hyda-Shok. 2 of each. No problem. All feed and ejected as they should have. Then I tried another 124 gr AE FMJ. It chambered Olay. But locked the slide the same as the 1st one did. It did seem to break loose alittle easier than before. I field stripped the pistol and inspected and cleaned it again. Everything looks good. It just doesn't seem to get along with that load. The AE 124 gr FMJ is one of my favorite 9mm rounds. I've used it in numerous handguns and it's always worked. But I'm happy the Taurus seems to get along with the other 7 loads I tried. And I'm real happy it ain't going back and I dont have to deal with "cough-cough"- Customer service- "cough-cough" !. I need to get out and shoot it. But I've been pretty stingy with my ammo lately. I'm planning on my G2c taking the place of my 38 S&W 642. Holds over twice the rounds and a little more powerfull round. I picked up a "Sticky" pocket holster for it. I've been trying it out around the house and yard. 1st one I've ever tried. I'm impressed so far. It is well made and comfortable and only $25. Anyway, thanks for the help and quick response.

@@RidersRange I tried exacy that this morning when I was messing with it. I put an AE 124 gr FMJ into the barrel. Then, I pushed it in as far as it would go. The round did become stuck and I had to knock it out with a plastic cleaning rod. It was very tight. I believe your idea that that round is touching the rifling when fully seated in the chamber just might be right. That does make since. I've owned a lot of guns over the years but have never seen this happen. I'm glad I noticed this issue. I'll just test any new ammo I get for it before I try and fire them. So far, I've only had 1 out of 8 do this. I do like this G2c. It seems well built and just feels really good in my hand. This quirk I found just reminds me I should check all ammo out before I trust a gun to work with it. You can always have good ammo and a good gun that just are not good together. Overall, I'm very happy with my G2c and glad I finally bought one. I've been thinking about trying one out for a while now. A young couple was looking at this one last week when I was at my local Academy. I started talking with them and told them I thought the Taurus was a great deal for $250. Told them I had heard alot of good things about them. I thought they were going to buy it. But they handed it back to the salesman and walked off. Then the sales guy and me started talking about how good of a deal we both thought it was. He went to put it back in the case and I stopped him. I said "Let me look it over 1st. I think I'll just take it home myself.". I had sworn to never buy another Taurus again 3 years ago after my 2nd Taurus customer service nightmare. And guess what I did earlier today. My youngest son and I went to our local gunstore to browes around. I came back with a new Heritage Rough Rider 22. They had them for $129. Now I have a matched set. I'll confess- I bought one a couple weeks ago- same price. And Taurus owns Heritage now. I guess I'm "Team Taurus" again- lmao! Oh, and I have a Rough Rider put up I bought a few years back. I'll just pray I don't need any service or parts from them. The last time I ordered 2 mags from them, it took Taurus over 10 months for them to get them to me. But dang- I do like some of their guns.

I guess I've been one of the lucky ones, no problems so far, but keep in mind it's barely broken in at 200-300+rounds. I use 115grain Hornady(115gr critical defense, might switch to duty once they're available again) for carry, and fired about 75 rounds with no issues. I have had one fail to fire with some cheap range ammo(prices omg, come on!), easily cleared with a second pull(dbl strike, it works!), no tap n rack needed. We've got to remember, that MANY of these were made in the last year, and the more demand for them, the more chance of human error. You can expect about 5-8 weeks for turn around if you send it to Taurus, but first they'll tell you to make sure you've run 200-300 rounds thru it to break it in...as afar as the safety, with that long a pull to the wall, it's kind of redundant, obviously if you're in a home with children, please us it. If I have the safety on, it's usually for a purpose, people at the house, children, etc...otherwise, it's safety off, 1 chambered, in my MFT holster. I love this little gun, whatever tiny nitpicks I had, I'm used to now, but I can only speak for me. I was willing to pay out for something in the 6-700 range, but this one, just made sense, and I don't regret it.

I replaced the sights initially, and adjusted, but it was still shooting low. I contacted the sight manufacturer, and they gave me taller sights to compensate. I've addressed this issue with the G3C with the sight manufacturer as I also changed these out on this model. They have yet to reply to me. (I think they are understaffed or something with these Covid19 days). Anyway, I think maybe it might have to do with the barrel rifling or twist rate. @@RidersRange I consider it part of their learning curve to becoming a more reputable gun manufacturer. Enough complaints and they'll look into it as they've certainly done to their designs and general quality control of their current offerings. Plus it might be ammo related. It's a defensive handgun, and not an adjustable race gun. So the philosophy to it might not be to super accuracy. In my experience its eaten through all my ammo types with zero issues; aside from the one I'm posting. As my gun is currently configured and working, I still trust it as my EDC. On my G2C (for all intensive purposes the same gun), the sight manufacturer sent me replacement for the same issue. Fixed it as far as I'm concerned. I contacted them about this, but still haven't heard back. At under 15yds, I'm not highly concerned about the POI being a few inches low. Just the only lingering thorn in my side for this gun. Adrian, I recently did a test on the G3c with a variety of hollow point ammo, including the Hornady (video coming out shortly). If I recall correctly, the Hornady was the one that I had difficulty extracting. The shape of the Hornady bullet and the very short lead (end of chamber to start of rifling) in the G3c results in the bullet hitting the rifling before the case hits the end of the chamber, getting slightly stuck on the rifling and making extraction difficult. This only happens with certain bullet shapes like the Hornady.

By "slide won't release, live round stuck", I presume it is loaded and you can't extract the live round from the chamber. I know what I'd try if I had the gun in my hands, but I can't give that kind of advice in a comment. Otherwise, I would suggest take it to where you could safely fire it to clear it.

What type of ammo were you using? I had a bunch of Winchester 115 grain practice ammo fail on me today. I even ended up with 3 bullets that WOULD NOT FIRE no matter how many times i reloaded the clip up with them, so I'm blaming bad primers or lack of quality control because I dumped an entire clip of Federal 124 grain Personal defense w/ Hydra-shok without any issues. That being said, I'm keeping my S&W Shield for my EDC because I haven't had one single issue with it until I can run more ammo through my G3c to make sure it's just an ammo issue and not a Taurus issue.

Thanks for the video. I love mine. Perfect fit in my fat hand. I haven't shot any 147 gr. Guess I need to. One issue I had, and I am sure it is my fault, is not racking the slide fast enough to load the first round (a hollow point). It hung and didn't go up the ramp and into the chamber. I carry it every day. Liked it better than the G26 so I sold it. Still thinking about buying another one just because. I added a 15rd from Taurus with their factory designed sleeve and it became a 15+1. :) NOTE: My son bought the P365XL. I haven't shot it yet, but just holding it made me decide I didn't like it because the hand grip is too thin for my liking. And BTW, why shoot 50yds when you will probably be accosted from 21 feet or less? Just sayin'.

@RidersRange 3 жыл бұрын
Michael, thank you for watching. I'm okay with my G3c when working around the "ranch" and I trust it, but it's not my favorite defense gun. I agree that the grip on the P365 it small. I added a Hogue HandAll grip sleeve to mine and it makes a huge difference. As to shooting at 50 yards, there are a couple reasons: 1) I want to see what the gun is capable of in my hands; and 2) If I know it can hit small targets at 50 yards, I KNOW it will hit what I want at closer distances. Those who do all their practice at 7 yards and closer - because that is the statistical "average" (which it isn't) - never know what they can do under stress at greater distances IF the need arises. I do most of my sighting in at 15 and 25 yards and I rarely practice closer than 12 yards.

Still waiting on a holster for it. I gotta say on the accuracy, I’ve never had that issue. But I also don’t shoot at 50 yards with pistols and if I did, I probably wouldn’t choose this one. For combat purposes, defensive purposes, 15 yards and in, it gets the job done. If I need to shoot further than that I’ll either run or grab a rifle.

Clearly I missed out on an invitation to the party ....My G2C will reliably feed any defensive JHP round I stuff in the magazines (I carry two spare magazines when toting ANY semi-auto pistol in ANY caliber or two speed loaders if my CW of choice happens to be a revolver ). So why does the G3C exist? I purchased my G2C for two main reasons #1: Even fully loaded it conceals nicely (and doesn't rust) during the muggy summers here in South Carolina and does not feel like I'm toting a cinder block between my skin and my jeans #2: If I learned anything as a career LEO (I retired after 27 years in 2010) defensive "gunfights" rarely extend beyond five yards.....Though we TRAINED out to fifty yards! As for sights I've been required to qualify with with everything from revolvers equipped with "iron" sights milled into the frame and blade front sights as on S&W "pencil barrel" Model 10s to those found on Sig P220s and S&W M&P .45ACP handguns. I also learned that sights are nice if you are "sniping" a target from "long range" but for defensive purposes at "close range" sights are basically worthless. So again, why does the G3C exist and what does it bring to the party, so to speak, that the G2C does not?

Thanks for watching and commenting. All good points. I haven't owned a G2c, but for me, the main advantage of the G3c is the option to use readily available Glock sights. (Taurus sights are a little better than stock Glock sights, but not much.) (P.S. I retired in 2012 after 38 years, and like you, I had to qualify over the years with a Model 10, as well as my off-duty gun - a Model 38.)

@@RidersRange My primary off duty and backup handgun, for over ten years was a stainless steel, DAO, Taurus M85 loaded with either 125grn JHP+ or 158grn LSWCHP +P ammo depending on availability and/or time of year. I think the reason I dislike Glocks the way I do is their blocky design and poor, at best, trigger pulls (yes I know, some folks including LEOs, can't figure out how to keep their fingers off the trigger when drawing/"presenting" their handguns). By the way, due to the muggy weather we have here in South Carolina, I decided to trade in an otherwise perfectly serviceable blue steel Taurus M85 DA/SA for the above mentioned stainless steel DAO model. Also, any company that made it's "bones" making "plastic" entrenching tools (I'm looking at you Glock) that broke on a regular basis fails to meet my personal quality standards....Something I learned while I was in the Army. When I worked plain clothes and as an investigator (burglary/homicide/major crimes) I was issued, at one time or another, Chief's Specials, Colt's Detective Specials and for one Golden Moment, a 2 1/2in Model 19 S&W. Of course the absolute best, wish I had it today, Road Dog Service Revolver was a nickel plated, 4in, Colt's Trooper Mk III which at fifty yards from a prone position could reliably place rounds center mass on targets at fifty yards. Today, despite not being a huge fan of ANY 9mm handgun I carry my G2C in the late spring through late summer while also keeping it close to hand as our SECONDAY home defense gun....Secondary to a Mossberg 500 loaded with a slug and 000 buck every other round mix out of a 20in rifle sighted "riot" barrel....But then there is my faithful old "Winter Concealed Carry" pistol in the form of a stainless steel, DAO, "compact" S&W semi auto in .40S&W stoked with 155grn, +P, SJHPs which will be taking the place of the G2C come about the end of this month or early October depending or when I start tucking in my shirt tails and wearing a light jacket again.....And by the way....I am a subscriber to your channel as of 09/09/2021!

Being that it was designed to be a CCW and personal defense firearm it liking heavier weight ammo is not entirely a bad thing. The stock sights are okay to start with but swapping them out for some quality fiberoptic front and blacked out rear like on the TP9sf Elite really improves the accuracy. I found that the 138gr Federal Syntech defense runs really nice through the G3C. I also found that if you run lower grain weight loads that plus-P helps return the accuracy you found with the 147gr. I ran some Underwood 124gr plus-P jacketed hollowpoints with acceptable performance at 12 yards. I will say this the low & left issue in my opinion, is due to the amount of travel in the trigger and the distance between backstrap and where the trigger breaks. Those with larger hands using the pad of the trigger finger to fire will end up pushing the gun left in finalizing the pull through the wall. It is not an uncommon phenomenon and is only noticeable on the paper and in slow motion of high-speed video recordings. There is a gentleman that makes aftermarket trigger shoes that compensate for this by the name of Keeptinkering. Check out his KZbin channel and his Pseudo-Backstrap trigger. I put one in my buddies G2C and it made all the difference in the world.

Killa, thanks for watching and providing your thoughts. I shot competitively long enough to not have the usual low-left issues, even with triggers that have over-travel, and several other reviewers who are also very good shots have had the same problems. As to the different ammo, I didn't try it with any +P or defensive loads. If I were to carry the G3c I would dip into my carry ammo and it would probably bring up the point of impact. But with ammo prices and availability issues these days, I'm not generally running it through guns that I don't intend to carry.

@@RidersRange completely understandable. I was just relaying my experience with the firearm and the issues I have seen people have through the years of shooting competitively and serving as a trainer. I am no professional by any means and have been out of the competitors arena for quite some time now. I think that it is like anything else you need to spend some time getting to know its personality quirks and make some tweaks here and there. I spent many hours with it and its predecessors and would say that straight out of the box it is finicky and that it is not a firearm that you leave the store go to your car load up and through on your side it requires range time and some fine tuning but it has proven reliable for me thus far 750 rounds down and no malfunctions. I did however tear it down polish the feedramp and all the firegroup components. The G3C is not my first rodeo with Taurus firearms. I hope that you did not think that I was questioning your shooting skills because that was certainly not my intent. There are a few upgrades that a person can do that really makes the G3C a great performer.

Could it be that you just need to train more with the g3c? It just seems unfair to say that a gun is inaccurate because you didn't hit your target. @@junsandiego3703 you must have skipped over the parts where I mentioned other respected reviewers who also had issues with the G3c, or the part where I mentioned that the gun worked better with heavier projectiles -confirmed by Ransom's testing, or the part where I was hitting 10" plates at 50 yards with the 147gr 9mm ammo (17:38-17:46 and again at 19:18), and at 19:30 "it did redeem itself with the right ammunition". For the record, I trust the G3c enough to carry it on occasion. It is a decent gun for the price, as I mentioned at the end of the video. @@RidersRange I remember those parts and they can explain my point as easily as they explain yours. Other respected shooters could have the same shooter error. It's not uncommon for someone right handed to shoot low and left if they are not used to the trigger. Hitting plates at 50 yards can also be because you're getting more comfortable using the gun. Did the gun redeem itself using the right ammo or did you redeem yourself by getting enough practice with the gun? No matter how skilled we are at shooting we still need to get used to a new firearm. It might fit our hands differently or we may need to adjust how we manipulate the weapon. Bottom line is that most of the time we would need to adjust to the weapon first before we can say that it is not working the way it should. Nothing against you. I respect you giving your opinion. J B, somehow I just can't warm up to three-dot sights. They are okay for close, quick shots, but absolutely terrible for precision, or shooting at any distance. Maybe I'm old school, but I ignore the dots and look at the actual front sight while looking through the rear sight notch, then use the "equal height, equal light" aiming principle. If point of impact isn't point of aim, it's time for new sights. And Dawson Precision is my go-to for sights.

Has a Teflon coating on the controls I don't know of a sub $300 gun that has all that in fact, it would cost you $850 to get all that on the Glock 43x For $124 you can get an aftermarket Target Threaded barrel (3.8") which increases accuracy and put a suppressor on it or get a compensator to reduce vertical recoil for $20 all from Lakeline LLC
