I just bought a g3c but have had a g2c for a few months. I've ran everything under the sun through it including dirty Russian steel ammo and several types of hollow points and never had an issue. The only time I ever had feeding issues was trying to chamber the first round hollow point on a brand new dry gun (g2c and g3c). Took both apart and cleaned and oiled them -- no issues ever since.

The problem with G3C not feeding JHPs isn’t the feed ramp not being polished. Lock the slide to the rear and look closely at the feed ramp. Notice the mag well and feed ramp function together to feed rounds into the chamber. Now with the slide locked to the rear, move the barrel. You will notice that the feed ramp will move around and separate from the “ramp” on the mag well. He lies your problem. The distance between mag well and feed ramp created by the barrel moving around causes jhps to catch. No amount of polishing will fix this issue. Although it appears fmjs will push right on in there, jhps often catch. My remedy is to use “rounder” jhps and to rack the slide with the barrel pointed up. Gravity causes the barrel and feed ramp to fall in place better.

I'm not a KZbinr, so I don't have a channel, like this gentleman does. We bought 2 of the G3c, and one wouldn't even chamber the blunter defense carry ammo and the other runs it but it is stiff. And since I looked up one video to see if anyone was having similar problems, now I get ALL the videos about this topic. Which is OK with me because I get to see different content and points of view. Here is MY story about this problem and maybe it will help even just one person. I recently bought 2 G3c. They ran practice FMJ ammo perfectly. However, as soon as I loaded some defense ammo, one of them wouldn't chamber any of it. It wasn't a feed ramp issue because it would get the round into the chamber every time however, it would not let any of the blunt tip hollow point ammo fully insert fully to the case rim bottom in the chamber. I removed the barrel and holding the barrel vertically with the muzzle down you could drop in any practice ammo easily fully, even the federal hydrashock defense ammo, because the point of the bullet is not so blunt, would easily seat fully. Im a machinist so i measured all my ammo, all measurements on all mfg rounds are the same EXCEPT the ogive on the blunter ammo is farther forward. (If you don't know what that is, look it up and why its important in this situation) So I measured the barrel and the chamber and that's where the problem was in both barrels. Even though the barrel and chamber are different diameters, they must be on the same centerline. Neither of mine were. The worst one, the chamber was .015" off from the barrel centerline. That is about the thickness of the brass wall on one side. Taurus customer service is amazing. Very pleasant to get a service return and they send you the shipping label so no cost for the return. They estimate a month turn around. So you could go that route. I see a LOT of posts about recommending you do that. However, one other alternative would be look for an aftermarket drop in replacement barrel. I'm not endorsing anyone, so Google it to find one. The one i got was fluted target grade. Free shipping and had it in less than 3 days. On sale for $60.00. Virtually drop in ready. If it even requires any fitting, the only place you may have to fit, is on the very back of the lug that presses against the slide face. It came with perfectly simple instructions on how to do that, or you can have a smith do it. But if you have some basic skills you can do it yourself. I tested all my ammo before i even put the barrel in the slide and it all drops in fully and fit perfectly. At the range, it shoots EVERY mfg ammo now and groups incredibly well out to 25 yards. It makes an inexpensive handgun shoot reliably and incredibly accurate for very little money!

Thank you for your detailed info. I've found that Taurus quality control is not always consistent. I'm glad you found a reasonable solution.
@johnratcliff Жыл бұрын
@RidersRange you are sooooo correct. It's really a shame about their quality control. It would be such an easy fix when they are manufacturing the barrel. It's obvious they are made on a CNC machine. Pull every 10th barrel and check the centerline relationship between the chamber and barrel with a go/no-go gauge. The aftermarket barrel I got is made on a CNC also, but you can tell the machining quality and attention to detail is so much better. Honestly, I would have paid another $60 at the store just to get what I now have. It's still much cheaper than the next competitor, and I love the grip, the factory trigger, the magazines, and even the look. But the biggest thing is it's now reliable and will run any of the defense ammo out there. It can't " just about chamber some or even most" defense ammo. It needs to absolutely chamber all of it. Reliability. The accuracy and repeatability on target is a bonus. Most people buy them for protection. If it's being sold only to reliably process target ammo, then that needs to be clearly stated before it's purchased. Anyway, thank you for your channel and the content you're posting for all of us.
@Wilverine99 Жыл бұрын
Is there any way to check the centering before a purchase?
@johnratcliff Жыл бұрын
Maybe. That would involve the gun store taking the barrel out of the slide and letting you look straight down the barrel from the breech end only. That will allow you to directly view the lip at the front of the chamber where it transitions to the barrel bore. Be sure to adjust your view so it is perfectly centered. The lip should appear as a perfect ring. Appear as equal thickness all the way around. If it appears thicker in one area than another, and thinner in another area..... it is off center. The more obvious it is, the farther off center it probably is. There is a second test. Again, it depends on if the gun store is willing to do that. As in the first test, they need to take the barrel out of the weapon and hold it breech up so the muzzle is pointed to the ground. Then ask THEM to take a round from a variety of their defense ammo on hand and just drop them into the chamber. They should basically just drop all the way in to the lip and sound kind of like a clunk. If they don't easily just drop all the way in. They are not machined on center. This symptom is more apparent with heavier grain blunter tip bullets. Just about all of the lighter round nose practice ammo will drop in as I describe above, so maybe ask them to demonstrate that ammo first so you can see and hear what I'm describing. Remember if any of the rounds dont freely drop all the way in to the chamber, you run a risk of the weapon not going fully into ready battery position thus it won't fire. If you have to even slightly nudge it to drop in the rest of the way, it isn't correct. As I said in my previous comment, I wouldn't necessarily not buy the weapon. I like Taurus. They fit my and my families hands very well. They are very user friendly, even for the ladies for racking the slide and magazine changes and sight picture, etc. And trust me, when I put the new barrel in my wife's weapon it shoots EVERYTHING, without fail, and the shot groups are VERY good. A buddy of mine just did the same to his annnnnnnnd even upgraded a couple parts in the slide. It function tests very smoothly. If you want to know how it does shoot once we get it to the range, let me know. I will provide an update but I know it's going to shoot just fine. Sorry about the lengthy comment reply but some things take more words to express, and you have a very valid question that deserves a good response.

Both were on full (12 round) mags, both Winchester 147 gr fmj, both from slide lock. I regularly clean and lube this firearm and, after reading thru other comments, will try polishing the feed ramp. Thanks for making this video!

In many cases there is more to it than just polishing the feed ramp. And "polishing" by shooting is a whole lot more expensive and time consuming than a few careful minutes with a rotary tool and fine polishing compound. But thanks for watching and commenting.

@@RidersRange I found polishing feed ramp with rotary tool and spot under feed ramp in mag well just a bit took care of mine and few others my friends had mine had burs from the factory in mag by feed ram others had sharp ledges there causing snag also found one that the barrel wasn’t tilting properly so feed ramp wouldn’t line up causing failure but if I put my barrel in it it worked flawlessly so I came to conclusion the barrel had to much material left on lug to tilt far enough little time with dial caliper’s and I had it working with a little work with rotary tool

@@RidersRange you are right on all accounts. However, the guy who “polished” the ramps by sending 200 rds of ball ammo is much more proficient with the gun, is better able to trust the gun, and is safer with it if he uses it for CCW.

Thanks for demonstrating! If this helps anyone.. Have factory Lehigh 90gr Extreme Defense that will consistently catch on the "pre-ledge" of the ramp. Rounding down the square edge of the four flutes a bit on rough sandpaper makes them feed reliably....(enough for me to trust). Easy to tell where the bullet profile gets nicked/witness mark in the pure copper.

Good video rider. I have a similar issue with my fuller size g3 with the first round of a full mag. At first I thought it was hanging up on the feed ramp but on a closer look the rounds would hang up on something before the bullet itself reached the feed ramp. A quick tap on the bottom of the mag fixes this. the round chambers and the entire mag runs without further issue. But to be fair it isn't only hp ammo with this small issue but flat tip fmj as well. Other than this minor hiccup the taurus g3 line is dependable and durable and I can live with this. The only thing i can warn about is each time round get hung up on the feed ramp or something else the projectile itself often gets pushed back a little farther in the case and if it gets pushed back far enough it can create safety issues such as pressure spikes and breakages. Just some food for thought

Ok, correct me if I am wrong, I was in the Army for a couple years, 22 years, but if my memory serves me right, Weapons are supposed to feed, chamber, lock,fire, unlock,extract, eject, recock, feed ,chamber and so on. The only thing this video is proving is that it will “fire” a chambered round. I own a G3C and it jams when “chambering” about every hollow point ammunition I try to run through it. FMJ “Ball” ammunition seems to run fine. I also own the G2C and G3 and they will run anything I put into it. So there is something definitely wrong with the G3C, I wouldn’t trust my life on it, And I have ran about 200 hundred FMJs though it, and it still jams, after the Holidays I am sending it back to Taurus.

I have heard this issue a number of times. I had the opportunity to work with two people that told me they were have this issue from slide lock. And in both cases the issue was not the weapon or the ammunition, it was a training issue. Neither of them were using the slide lock release, they were releasing the slide by hand. When you do this, the slide has to be pulled all the way to the rear until it stops and released from that position “with no hands touching” the slide all the way forward. This of course allows the full energy of the recoil spring against the slide to strip the round from the magazine and chamber it. Or use the slide lock release as it was designed and there is no issue. Just as the guy in this video was using it.
@RidersRange3 жыл бұрын
I'm a 1911 guy at heart, so I always use the slide stop as a slide release. I've seen many, many folks run the slide by hand and most of them follow the slide forward, so, as you mentioned, the spring doesn't get to do its job. Thanks for watching and adding your thoughts.

slide lock does sometimes fails to feed when chambering hollows in a full clip with this pistol....i experienced this with my underwood 9mm jhp's then i realized it would feed them from a full slide action like the natural motion of firing a round....if you rack by hand from a slide locked position there should be no problem
@wi-techcybersecurity29263 жыл бұрын
Over 30 years of teaching firearms safety, usage and tactics privately and for the government. I have spoken to and worked with numerous weapons manufacturers, the slide should be raked by hand to chamber you first round and or in a malfunction situation. The slide lock is the most reliable and designed way to chamber the round, 90 percent of the issue chambering come from operating the slide the wrong way, “riding the slide” holding it to long or not pulling it all the way back before releasing it. Using the slide lock will reduce chambering issues, it’s up to you!

Several times I've seen this issue reported about some of the G2Cs, and as G3C is mostly the same pistol, the solution I've seen was always reported to be the same: Polish the feed ramp with some jewelers rouge and a Dremel polishing cone. So far, everything I've seen this corrected the problem. But, admittedly, that's the just the few times I've seen it reported, and the solution I've seen mentioned. That doesn't account for everyone, nor is it meant to. Mine feeds my Winchester SXZ defense ammo just fine. I haven't tried a lot of rounds, myself.

I had the same problem with one as well. Wouldn’t feed hollow points. I did the same test that your doing now. I had problems with sig and Hornandy critical defense hollow points . I think it has something to do with the front opening of the hollow point. I noticed some have larger hollow point openings than others. They get stuck on the feed ramp. When the ammo gets stuck inspect the front and sides of the bullet. There will be some scratches on the front top and side.

I agree! Just a little polishing can cure most problems. I use "crocus cloth" which is an absurdly fine variety of emery cloth, sold in hardware stores. I wrap a small strip over a bunch of different sized rubber pencil erasers, and softly rub with ONLY an in-and-out motion like the bullet when feeding. I gently polish the ramp and the upper side of the chamber where the bullet nose bumps into. It takes about ten minutes, and feeding hesitations go away..........................elsullo

The upper lipp had rough edges, although It did not effect feeding, and I only use Hornady Critical Defense anyway, but I’m picky, since this is the only entry level handgun I own, I want it all of the surface edges on the barrel to be smooth. I didn’t in anyway, expect it to be the caliber of my HK or Kimber handguns. I was pleasantly surprised with it. It’s the perfect handgun to leave in my center console as it is an inexpensive handgun.

Taurus has rough machining on the feed ramp and it can catch hollow points. I noticed this before even firing the gun. After polishing my G3c will now even slow feed any hollow points while holdin the slide. All manufacturers should polish ramps before selling them, it really wouldn't cost them much time or effort. I personally polish ramps before I ever bother shooting it, even my Walther that was already polished, I polished more. Should just be a routine accompanying fist cleaning when you buy it

Michael, thanks for watching and adding the info. I agree on polishing feed ramps, though it is an extra step in the process and each step adds cost. Also, I read a rumor (rumors are like hind ends - everyone has one and most of them stink) that some manufacturers consider polishing a feed ramp to be a "modification" and could void the warranty.

I'd like to just include a few points, that help a lot, in my opinion. Don't forget to break in your mags, I think a lot of these feed issues may be caused by that, or failure to inspect the feed ramp. Try to remember it's a budget pistol, regardless of it being one of the best, they still have to make some money on it, and something somewhere will occasionally fail in the quality control area. It may only be a 5 minute fix from a perfectly useful firearm, but you won't know unless you use it. Don't assume that any firearm, regardless of price will function perfectly if you just buy it, and store it next to a random box of ammo, until/if ever, you need it. Don't be cheap with your edc ammo! practice enough with your defensive ammo of choice that you feel confident, then skip to a cheaper alternative(just my opinion! I am not an expert!), range time can get pricey thanks to hoarders! My personal G3C in particular works very well with Hornady Critical defense, or duty(many others have mentioned the same thing). I use 115gr defense for edc, but others have commented that they prefer 124gr rounds. Point is, practice, and practice more, get to know your firearm, and how it works.(obviously that was for neophyte and novice users, no offense to those that know their weapon, lol).

My rule of thumb was at LEAST 400 rounds through the gun WITHOUT FAILURE, including every magazine with carry ammo, before I'll trust a gun for carry. (I've recently cut that in half, due to the difficulty of finding quality ammo these days.) If I have a failure of any kind at any point, I start the count all over again. Unfortunately, even before the ammo "crisis", far too many folks just bought a gun and a box of ammo, then carried the gun without thorough testing. Thanks for watching and reinforcing that important point.

The problem I have with a lot of people saying the G3 G2 even though PT111 millennium won't feed it's cuz they only try one kind of hollow point or maybe two kinds of hollow points initially on the break-in. They can be a little ammo finicky once you get them broke in I've got a couple G3 cs and a g2c I've also got an old PT111 millennium with several thousand rounds to it and it will eat anything now no problems I keep it clean I have polished the feed ramp but I don't get aggressive with it I just use a little mother's mag wheel polish with a q-tip and just get it nice and shiny when I clean it probably don't even need to do that at this point but it eats everything. So a lot of times when people bad mouth a particular gun it's because they have not tried the type of ammo that it wants. I also believe on your initial break in Taurus recommends slingshotting the slide and not using the slide lock to release the slide I have to double check the manual again The same goes for rifles when you're sighting in a rifle you just go buy a box of Remington's or something and it won't shoot them worth a darn when you try Winchester's and your cloverleafing shots at 100 yards.

3:50 he says it's full but you can see that the mag is half full. And it was so many edits in this video. Why didn't he chamber every full clip with no bullet in the chamber? We all know why? Cause he works for Taurus. Would you trust your life with a Taurus? Only if you have range bullets.

Mine was jammed up against bottom. Lip of the feed ramp. took it apart and looked at it. it looked like someone at the factory had dropped the barrel on the feed ramp. used a Jewlers file to smooth it out. Seems to work now. Unfortunately, I'm still having acracy.issues.
