Came here because I wanted to see how someone more experienced would play this game. I played PSP and 7 for years prior to trying out this game for the first time. The worst mistake I have ever made is going on hard mode immediately. It feels like it's impossible to catch up to first place if you don't do that within the first lap, especially on Bayside. I'll beat it eventually, but I'll be coming back to this video to study and see how you pull off your corners and drifts.

That's because I recorded this playthrough on PCSX2 emulator, which has some visual issues with this game (which are, as far as I know, still not fixed). Also I had no capture card by the time I did these playthroughs, so I couldn't record from PS2 as well.

I'm not sure if I'm right, but is it me or the PAL version of this game looks a bit easier than the American version on the Hard difficulty?

I don't really know to be honest, but the Hard mode isn't too bad difficulty-wise, especially if you are using a Grip-based car like I did. Those generally perform better Drift-based cars, at least what I feel. Also it depends how well you do in first lap, because the lead car can really get some distance if you don't catch it up in time.
