If u go for rigid u no longer need a big bulky expensive Recip saw, I chose to get a multi tool from Rigid, that has interchangeable heads and costed $250 so far, for the set of a charger, 2 2.5 batteries the multi tool, and a recip head, really good for getting into tight areas, and still has similar to same amount of power as the big and bulky!

I own a few of the gen5x tools and I like them but don't they have an octane model? My gen5 is not octane and I own no octane batteries. Looking at other videos, I see that it's gen5x octane. I thought they were different, a step up from gen5.

Thomas Morse they are. This one is an Octane, but you only see the Octane label in one brief shot. Apparently, this is one of the first Octane tools and Ridgid hadn’t finalized the branding. I made the same observation then had to edit my comment when I saw the Octane label.

Ridgid Gen5x is not the same as Octane. Non-Octane tools can benefit from the Octane batteries, but it is not the same as the Octane tool that can benefit even more. However, as one shot showed, you were testing the Octane model.

Great Video and perfect timing. I've been thinking about picking up the Ridgid 18V recip for some time. I was a DeWalt fanboy for many years but finally got tired of the tools breaking, getting fixed under warranty then breaking again, and again, and again. I did get pretty good at fixing them myself but for the money I shouldn't have to. I found out about the Ridgid lifetime warranty and free battery replacement and switched out all my DeWart tools to Ridgid and haven't looked back. Keep up the great vids.

Notice that the ridgid doesn't have a rafter hook. It does have the depth adjustable shoe and orbital action. Agree, dewalt should had put orbital on the new model. Like you mention it might be a copy right. thing. RIDGID for the Win.... Come on DeWalt, LOL....

Even the compact XR beats this new flexy... Seems only the circ and grinder are the better upgrades. It doesn't seem SBD R&D is paying attention to anyone. Less features than mid-range competition. They shouldn't even put any of it on the shelves until they can compete. If you have the Ryobi BL, plz try it against it. That would show how low this product places. Clint and/vs Clint make a great show. Clint did a better job though.

Definitely a right handed guy. Right hand on the front to push down on ridgid with straight arm while left hand on front with dewalt pushing down with a bent elbow. Of course having your dominant hand on the front to push down is going to be the winning side. I don't think the results would have been real different if you used the same tool on both sides. It's mostly just about cutting with dominant vs non dominant. Do the test again with the tools on opposite sides. It'll make a difference. This is why most comparison videos have a weighted setup to compare with so the exact same weight is demonstrated on both. I have dewalts old flex volt and I was dissapointed with the lack of rafter hook and speed dial. This is supposed to be dewalts flagship recip saw. Feels like to me they gave up halfway thru. If your gonna make a flagship why not make it compare to the other brands flagship?

Nicely done with the switching. Dewalt sure dropped the ball with the recip saws. I still don't get why they wouldn't put at least a hook and speed dial. They put a hook on almost everything but not this. Certainly a dissapointment. Hopefully the next one will be better and less than 4 or 5 years away =/
