Camai from Homer! Just now seeing this episode (been out building a cabin in the bush and riding snow machines all winter..😉) So glad you got to see Homer without the precip..August last summer was a bit soggy but also plenty of dry riding too. .It IS visually and experientially a blessing to live here..my view as I comment here is of the bay, mountains, glaciers, moose in the yard, and Sandhill Cranes flying overhead..seriously, never gets old..yesterday was spent taking two new sleds out to the lake property for the last snowmobile ride of this winter...now they get pickled and we switch to bikes, ATVs, and side by sides. Had I been aware, you wouldn't have needed to find lodging that evening..Like many Alaskans, we always have guest quarters (ours with a stunning view of said "bay, mountains, glaciers, moose in the yard, and Sandhill Cranes flying overhead", (the latter birds putting up quite the racket early in the morning 🥴)..they must be related to the roosters of Rarotonga! 🐓 Looking forward to catching up on more of your fun episodes, as screen time allows early in the mornings..On! On!

Oh, you're place in Alaska sounds idyllic! I wish we had known about you when we were there... But you're pretty lucky to live in one of the most beautiful spots on earth. We absolutely enjoyed our brief visit to your neck of the woods and I can almost still smell the fresh salty air... Well I'm glad you're enjoying the videos, and thanks for watching and sharing with us a reminder of those gorgeous views!

Thanks for the memories. In 1996 our family, my wife and I plus our two teenagers, drove from NE Ohio to Alaska living in our little pop up trailer for 5 weeks. It was the trip of a lifetime. We loved Homer although it looks a lot different now than it did back then. There were almost no cars the spit then. I have really enjoyed reliving our trip through your videos.

Wow, it's hard for me to imagine the Spit without so many cars and buildings on it. It's sounds like such a great adventure you had, I'm glad we could rekindle some memories for you! Thank you for watching and for sharing your personal story with us!

The Spit at Homer brings back memories. I enjoyed riding to Lands' End but was far, far too much the geologist. I kept thinking of a tsunami... not the place to be at such a time. But we camped on the beach, and I didn't sleep but maybe ten minutes for fear of feeling the ground shake. Beautiful place. The fish was expensive but ultimately decided, what the halibut, how many times does a Midwesterner get to Homer? Loving the drone.. first views caused me to say "THEY BOUGHT A DRONE!!"
@2UpAndOverloaded2 жыл бұрын
You know, I didn't even think about a tsunami while there (though we didn't sleep on the spit, so that might've been why), but you're right. They have so many earthquakes there, a tsunami is not too much of a stretch of the imagination. And if we had slept there and I'd thought of it, I'm (Marisa) the type of person to stay up all night worrying about it, for sure! So maybe it is good we didn't sleep there... Anyway, thank you for sharing, I'm going to totally tell Tim the "what the halibut" joke, he'll love it (right up his alley). In fact, I can't believe he didn't think of it when we were there... How disappointing. Thanks again for watching and commenting Richard Mourdock!

We just started watching you and find your pics and commentary amazing. I do have a question and I am sure it has been asked what did your bike weigh without you or your pillion? Or total weight with both of you on it?
@2UpAndOverloaded2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jorge, and welcome to our channel! Well, to answer your question, we have weighed our motorcycle before when we were flying it. It had to be fully loaded with all the gear but not with us on it. But the number felt so astronomical we have both since put it out of our memories and have forgotten unfortunately (also it was in kg). But I believe the bike itself is 500 lbs and the gear is another hundred pounds at least. So it adds up quick, especially when you add both of us on to that and extra gas, etc. I'm sorry I can't give you an exact number, but we're really excited to have you along for the ride. Thanks for the comment, and any questions you have, we'll do our best to answer!

Yeah, I don’t blame you not knowing. It messes with your mind. I know when I load up my 1200GSA it gets heavy. Without me. Then I add my GF and you really feel it. Alaska was on my bucket list before my old man got sick. Looking forward to watch your other videos and catch up. Thanks for the reply! Merry Christmas! To you both Cheers 🍻

@@WestsideCruisers Merry Christmas, and yes, just like the KTM 1190, I know those GS's get heavy too. But like we always say, it's our home on wheels and we have everything we need to survive on there. We say one pannier is our living room, the other the kitchen, etc. So it's all worth it to bring I believe! I hope you get a chance to visit Alaska because it truly is amazing. Thank you so much for watching and being a part of our adventures!

Thank you for the awesome comment! To answer your question, we believe the stink is from the calcium chloride that they spray on the roads up there as a dust suppressant.

Loving your channel. The cinematography is fantastic and am getting a chance to learn more about AK. Planning a 30-day trip there June-July. The spit has me considering more days. I'm sure the wife won't be pleased me being gone longer, lol. Your channel should be huge one day. Keep up the great work!
@2UpAndOverloaded2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Chris D! I think you're trip to Alaska in June-July should be awesome, actually it's pretty much guaranteed to be epic. One thing we didn't mention in the video that we probably should have is that those months have their problems too. This last summer when we were there, everyone had been complaining about the horrible wildfires in July. Then of course it's freezing cold and the bugs are the worst in June. And it rains in June a lot as well. But August in the definite rainy season. It's kind of a gamble no matter what, but as you saw in the video, you're bound to have some moments of pure glory. So any of those three months will have their downs and incredible ups as well. I think as far as planning a trip, these next few episodes that we're going to publish will give you some good ideas for some of our favorite rides in Alaska. Out of this world stuff! Anyway, thank you so much for the kind words about the video and the cinematography. We work very hard on it and it makes it all worth it when someone like you just brightens our day with a lovely comment. So thank you!!

@@2UpAndOverloaded Thank you for all the great advice. I look forward to your next videos on this. My plan is to go around 6/15-7/15. Splitting the last of the rain and cold and hopefully curtailing the major mosquito season. Either way it's going to be epic. I unfortunately won't have the leisurely pace you have enjoyed but I will make enough time to enjoy the scenery. I will be riding a '16 BMW GSA that I think is well outfitted for this ride. How did you enjoy the Mission Trailmax tires on the Alcan?

We actually got pretty lucky with the weather overall. We have heard stories of people getting rained on for 18 out of 20 days worth of riding.
