I am European and cannot understand the comments or believe their prices. A round trip from West Palm Beach to Miami any day during regular hours costs between $79 and $130 per person. A round trip Miami-Orlando, between $200 and $450. This last one is over $1,000 or as much as $1,800 for a family of 4. None of those scenarios include food and beverages in transit, or transfers to and from the station (or the equivalent parking fee if you leave your car). The USA has much, much to do to really be able to offer affordable and convenient train transportation.

As an American I can inform you that you are looking at a privately owned Rail Road. Take a look at AM trak's site as I just did. I inquired for a one way from Orlando to Miami. It is $31 per person one way. You also have the option of a Roomette for $232. So your family of four is going to run you $250 Round Trip for the whole group or maybe even less. No where near $1,800 ! Of course it will be a little longer trip as you are not going 125 mph. AM Trak is the DB of America. Brightline is private rail with Orient Express prices.

Brightline is similar to Italo, a private rail operator in Italy that competes with the state-owned Trenitalia. However, Italo is much more affordable, showing that the U.S. has a lot of catching up to do in terms of rail service. High prices are a key reason Americans haven't embraced trains. Plus, Brightline doesn't qualify as a high-speed train by global standards-it's far slower than true bullet trains like those in Europe and Asia. We shouldn't settle for lower standards when it comes to rail infrastructure.

@@Mikejakester You think $100 for a 3 hr 50 min Acela train from NY to DC is "High priced"? Or how about $95 on an auto train coach seat with your car on board for around $200? Brightline is a privately owned for profit rail service that had to pay for its roadbed. America "Embraced trains" for over 100 years. "High prices" had nothing to do with the switch to the auto. The Oil Companies and their lobbyists had more to do with it. Eisenhower had a cabinet full of ex GM executives . They influenced him to build the interstate highway system and not invest in railroad roadbeds. while post war Germany and Japan did the opposite. Maintinance of road beds is the responsibility of the Railroad. Railroads had to build their own terminals but Airports are built by municipalites. Buses ride roads maintained by the government. Unfair competition whose goal it was to end passenger service and get folks to burn fuel. They created the "Highway" lobby which people think is a group of concerned citizens fighting for better roads but is actually funded by the oil and car industry to fight every proposal for better public transport that comes along. There is a wonderful video you might get at your local library called "Taken for a ride" which is an eye opener. Several of the auto related corporations like GM and I think Goodyear were convicted in court of conspiracy to destroy the Los Angeles interurban trolley system. it was one of the best at the time and was bought by a front company and deliberately sabotaged so it could be replaced by highways and GM busses. These multi million dollar companies were fined $5000!

@@davidstout6051 The trains of yesteryear are gone because they were not time competitive with driving or flying. Non rail fans choose travel based on convenience. Brightline works because it is fast. The super chief is cool. It was not time competitive. As for the state of rail in the US, to play devils advocate: (1) We have true hsr in the NEC and have for decades. The Acela is faster than Brightline. It hits 150 mph. It travels at 135 mph + 150 mph combined for more distance than Brightline hits 125. That is the actual bullet train. International HSR definition is 125 mph+ on improved rail. We do have it. (2) For all its woes, plenty of countries have worse train service than the US. At least the US is trying to improve. Corridor improvements take time. But - Brightline West is building a new line, California hsr is in progress, Amtrak has money to add routes (at some point).

@@caseydorn3309 Agree with everything you said except CAHSR, that project is a huge failure. We gave them 30 billion, and they wasted most of it buying private land because 99 isn't straight enough and doesn't have a wide median. They want 100 billion to complete SF to LA, when 30 billion was supposed to be enough. Smart people would have gone down I-5, either down the median like Brightline is doing with LA to LV, or just parallel to the highway. That would have saved a LOT of money. Don't get me started....I proudly voted no despite being on the left (centrist Democrat, grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, still subscribe to San Francisco values). The good news is that it left I-5 open if Brightline wants to build a train down that corridor at some point. 🙂

@@SeanSmith66 I wouldn't pull the experience card on me. I live in South Florida. I could walk out my door and be at the gates of the Magic Kingdom in under 3 hours. It's not a hard drive. Compare that to getting to the station early enough to not risk missing your train, parking, embarking, taking the train, stopping at each station, disembarking, waiting for an uber or shuttle to take you to your destination. The train may go faster than the car, but the car is already almost halfway to Orlando by the time the train pulls out of the station. And, yeah, it's cheaper driving. Especially if you're bringing a family. A round trip is well under a tank of gas. Add some tolls and parking. But for Brightline you also have to pay for parking and shuttle/uber. So, explain to me what rational economic motivation I have for using Brightline.

@@JonSmith-hk1bq Don't play the experience card on me... Florida is a horrible place to travel in. It's archaic, I've stayed there for about 6mos. I've worked in the bike industry for 25+ years, which has afforded me to live in Taiwan, Japan, Germany, UK, New York, California, and Texas. Most have well built, well thought out HSR, subways, and light rail (even Texas in spots). All are 20x less stressful, and so much more beneficial for family travel than any highway could be. If you had HSR to travel the route you picked out, you'd be there in less than an hour an d your family would be rested and ready to go for the day. The best part, if you plan it right, you'd be back home in the same day.

@@gewglesux You are talking to tightwad geezers who think that Amtrak should carry their car on board for free. It is just like the airlines. It depends on when you buy your tickets and which direction you are going and how crowded the train is. For instance I went last Spring Southbound for $400 +. That included the Car .I had a roomette on the train too. It included 2 meals, dinner and breakfast. It was cheaper than driving where I would be purchasing 3-4 meals a hotel room and 4 tanks of gas. For comparison call a transport company and ask what they charge to bring your car down there. My neighbor paid $1200. Bear in mind no one is headed down there in May they are going the opposite way so it gets more expensive coming back with all the snow birds. In early June I paid $1000 to go back to NY because the train was 95% full. However on this trip I had a Deluxe Bedroom which sleeps 2 and has its own toilet, shower, and vanity. For dinner you get a full sit down meal ordered from a menu. Rooms are not mandatory and if you want to ruff it in a coach seat you can get that seat as low as $95. My TIP is "Book Early" just like with flights. I also have the AMTRAK credit card. It is a no brainier. Depending on the promotion you can get up to 40k miles to take the card which is already enough for a free one way autotrain trip NY to florida.

I rode Brightline from West Palm Beach to Miami and back just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. I plan to return to Florida in January to ride it from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale. Brightline is building a similar high speed railroad from outside of LAX to Las Vegas. It will hit a top speed of approximately 187 mph. It is expected to be ready for service in 2028 or thereabouts. It is being subsidized by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Brightline Florida is not the fastest passenger train in the United States. Amtrak's Acela reaches a speed of 150 mph over 49.9 miles of track between South Boston and Providence. The new Acela train sets supposedly will be able to run 160 mph over the same stretch, as well as a stretch of track south of New Brunswick, NJ. Brightline is an example of where passenger trains make sense, which is 250 to 300 mile high density corridors where the cost to expand the highways and airways is prohibitive. The United States does not need to incur the expense of building new rail lines to support trains that run as fast as those in Japan, China, etc. The optimum option is a train that beats driving, which in most instances is 110 to 125 mph. In most areas of the United States, upgrading existing rail lines would make better passenger rail service possible without the huge outlays for a totally new rail line.

So when the train is returning from it's trip, you could be seated in the Cab Car and you would hear the train horn as being much louder. I missed the food in the lounge area but there were plenty of options on the train throughout the journey. and there were some tasty stuff too. i also went from Orlando to Miami in premium and it was very comfortable. security check was not hectic . I was just happy not to board a plane to tell you the truth.

I wish Brightline all the success possible. We are getting one from LV to LA in the next few years. Unfortunately, I have no idea how they can possibly compete with a 737-MaxX, transporting almost the same amount of passengers from Orlando to Miami in only 1h ( yes, higher check in time, but not that much ), at a massively lower infrastructure cost ( the gate is like the departure train station, the plane is the same price as each train rolling stock, no hundreds of miles of rail or anything in between ) . I fly Frontier between LV and ONT for $49.99, anytime I want. I am so looking forward to Brightline, but without massive subsidies they cannot compete. I can even ride luxurious Flixbus ( incredibly cheaper hardware, much lower operating cost ) for a cheaper price, even thought that takes a little more time than Frontier or Brightline, but not much, maybe 30 min, at worst an hour.

I guess we can call it almost a bullet train. 125 MPH is quite a bit slower than other high speed rail systems. The Acela train that runs between New York and Washington DC travel at up to 150 mph and it’s been running for almost 1/4 century (24 years) Bullet trains in other countries have exceeded 375 mph. Also a true bullet train doesn’t have RR crossings that allow cars to cross the tracks. The biggest problem is the cost. I can book a one way flight from MIA to Orlando for only $54.

@@myeyesseainblue don’t think he’s ruining the fun, just stating facts. It’s true the Amtrak Acela in the NE is faster and does hit 150 at certain points, so the Brightline is not the only highspeed railway in the US definitely the newest! With that being said I personally can’t wait to try Brightline and hopefully this starts a wave a highspeed railway across the country. It’s good seeing people excited for rail travel!Train travel can often be better than flying!

I am so glad you did the walk through. I wondered about luggage. Seeing the luggage rack helped me know that if I use this train to get to the cruise ports, I would have a place to put my regular size suitcase. At 70, I am not a backpack/carry on kind of gal. Now to get a train to go from Tampa to Orlando. I-4 is a parking lot with constant multiple accidents. It is the only way to get across the state without taking the back roads. Wake up Florida. Every time they have tried to put a rapid transit system in, it has been voted down.

America is not known for great passenger trains but guess what, America still has the largest railway infrastructure in the world, second largest is not even close in length. Only reason why it’s not known for the train is because most trains are commercial trains only used to transport stuff.
