It's called Chukudu in DRC Congo. They have similar one but a bit advanced. Burundi has cyclists who can carry loads of bananas for livelihood at neck breaking speed

They also incorporate sealed baring rings in their design as well as springs to make up for a lack of castor effect..... I am a bike designer myself.

We made scooters back in the 1950s. We used boards and the wheels were old bearings from cars. It’s so surprising that in this day and age to see something like this being made. But I still admire these poor guys.

Brings back memories of the early 70's. We had wooden scooters similar to these ones. The the bar connecting to the stirring handle though was attached with only a hook made of nail and from time to time it detaches and some kids skinned their knees and elbows sometimes.

В Африке тоже делают деревянные самокаты. Чукуду. Они более совершенны. Там есть пружины-амортизаторы, тормоз и их самокат-чукуду может перевозить до 450 кг груза.

A lot of this beautiful clip reminds me of my times in the state of Bahia, Brasil, some twenty-five years ago. There was a busy boatyard in Itacare that caught my attention. The guys made 25' boats out of wood that was yellow inside and yielded a pleasant scent. There was a lot of machete use, roosters would crow, and afternoon breaks were spent lazing in the shade of spreading almond trees. I saw a lot of hand-carved woodwork in Brasil. I saw how Bahians would improvise when making or repairing things, much like what we saw in this clip. I think the best invention I saw there was a gas engine powered wheelchair. The owner was a fine guitarist, a local celebrity, and was doted over and greatly appreciated by all in Porto Seguro, Bahia.

Wow is he great with that chopping knife! It must need a lot of sharpening throughout the build .Wood is very heavy , so taking it downhill on wheels is a great idea ,and as for the return trip wheeling the bike that’s alright, you only have to walk one way.
