Late Gen X here. Started riding this summer. It has played a huge role in reducing stress, mental clarity, and just overall happier outlook on things. Throttle therapy is real. Even if I just ride alone, it does more than any amount of doom scrolling on a social media site.

I'm a 46 year old dad. I've just started riding motorcycles with my 19 year old son. We even took the MSF class together!. I lost my twin brother over 2 years ago and our rides have been bringing smiles that had become infrequent. Also the perk of getting out with him away from his phone and PS5 is AWESOME. He's been taking it back n forth to work and rides as much as he can. Get a bike if you're thinking about it! It adds depth to your life. Be safe and God bless.

We play on the PS5 together. I've been playing vids for over 40 years. Very competitive at one point. My reflexes aren't what they used to be but I still enjoy it.

That is awesome you've been able to bond with your son like this. When my son is old enough, I'm looking forward to the same thing if his interest is in riding. Gen Z has problems moving out of their parent(s) house due to the horrible economy and wages that haven't grown with inflation. They can maybe afford a cheap used car, but especially in seasonal / northern states, bikes are probably not a practical purchase. Plus you need an MSF course, helmet, insurance, plates etc. I do agree that riding has many benefits besides getting from point A to B. But income is probably the greatest hurdle for most younger people. That, and getting off your phone or videogames for more than 15 minutes. My daughter is early Gen Z (1999) and her phone is her life. For me (gen X) it's main functions are gps, weather, alarm clock and restroom buddy.

Nice vid man... Gen X here who started riding 27 years ago at age 19... probably got 350,000 miles in during that time... life has had plenty of turmoil, but motorbikes and the buddies I've made through them are damn near the only constant. Ride fast- take chances.

I stumbled upon your channel a couple of weeks ago and I subscribed to your channel. As an older rider now, I first started off many years ago with a 500 cc bike and as my journey continued, I bought bigger motorcycles. Well, as I have become older, I am not as strong as I once was. So, I made a decision to downsize and I am back to a Z400, which I have had for four riding seasons. What I found was the small cc motorcycles are just plain fun and when I get off the bike I have a big grin and can't wait to ride the next day. Motorcycling is my prozac and being on a bike is magical. I agree with you that getting out on a motorcycle is life saving. One does not have to spend a lot on a motorcycle, buy used or small. Motorcycling is magical. Ride safely.

I'm gen X, but encouraged my college-student son to ride, and even got him his own bike for exactly the reasons you mention. Now, he wrecked it, we fixed it, and then he blew the transmission right out of it, but I consider the mental health benefits worth the cost. He's healthy and happy. He's playing varsity ball at a good school, and has a girlfriend that loves him. (Even tho he looks like a blonde Shrek) His bike may not have been the only reason he's doing well, but I'm sure it helped.

just turned 18 couple months ago and got the license right away(its 18yo in s.korea) and got the mt07 thanks to my supportive parent, and geez I love riding, the freedom the amount of exploration of my tiny country(lol) the smell the wind hitting my face, gosh I love every aspect of riding a motorcycle. but geez it feels weird to ride a mt07 like a cruiser, I should've gotten a Honda rebel loll, butttt still I love the torque of my 07

I found your channel a little while back while trying to figure out how to do something on my Fury, and I'm glad to be here. As a fellow gen z guy (born in 98) I agree with everything you said in this video. I was in a really bad spot in my life when I finally pulled the trigger on getting my own bike, and riding is a big part of how I got better. I'd go as far as saying that it saved me from myself.

This is coming from an '04 Gen Z kid who works full time in a technical, computer focused job... god I can't wait to get my bike. I've always thought motorcycles were cool, and figured I'd like it because I love driving and pushing my car more than the engineers probably accounted for, but taking the MSF was a magical moment. Even just going 20 in a parking lot, you get that taste of learning a new skill when you perfectly nail an upshift to 2nd for the first time, all the sensations that force you to be present, and despite sweating buckets, I knew it was for me. I can't wait to be the dipshit playing in traffic, because I'll be the dipshit who has an awesome, therapeutic, and viscerally engaging hobby. I'm now saving up so I can have enough cash to get an apartment and a bike all at once.

Don't take this the wrong way, Get something to learn the mechanics that won't be your financial ruin if it goes wrong. Not many people intend to dump their bike but there are so many ways. Tinted visors and shades are high on the list,didn't see the gravel.

Another simple way to look at it: riding makes you forget about your problems, even for a moment. Different generations have different problems, so motorcycle fixes them. I'm an early Millennial, introverted, overworked middle management that gets pressure from both end. I don't suffer from loneliness, ride to get away from people. And people I met while riding, likely only talks about motorcycles and that's fine.

Gen Z dipshit here, I totally agree. I get the whole lonely thing, but its not like many Gen Zrs actually go out and explore hobbies IN PERSON. Like, I'm too broke right now for bike, but it doesn't stop me from going to car shows and bike shows to talk to people and just be around that culture. Like, I still watch motovloggers to experience it on the social media side, but you kinda need to be around your hobbies in real life too. A point you didn't cover too is the whole short attention span thing. I think that riding would help some people out with their attention spans because they have to be focused and multi-task. Hopefully more Gen Zers get into bikes, it's one of the best things that has happened to me, peace bro ✌️

Gen X father of a gen Z here. Where are you guys? Ok, you're obviously get out and amongst it, but where are your peers? My son (26) always seems to be the youngest in any of the endeavours that he pursues, and quite often by a wide margin. He was the youngest at the Lacrosse club when he was playing. Now, he's consistently the only gen Z on race day at his local yacht club. I ride with one of his mates because his mate's only got one other friend to ride with. It's bizarre. Where are you all? When I go to the pub to see a band, it's just a sea of grey hair. When someone pulls off their helmet, more grey hair! Camping, fishing, hunting... grey hair. Yep, I'm generalising, but it seems like my generation of parents have got your generation chained up in a basement.

@@davidbrayshaw3529 Wassup, I can kinda explain. I work a full time job at my parent's business, and I do virtual school at night. As a result, I am not in direct contact with any peers my age, but I have a few ideas based on loose interactions. One of the main causes of this behavior is from COVID. It occurred around important developmental stages for some Gen Zers, leading them to lose a sense of self, and lose the understanding of friend groups. As a result, Gen Zers are more likely to spend ALLLLLLLL day on their phones because they are scared of the real world. A lot of them developed depression, social media addiction, and anxiety, so basic social interactions are very hard for them. Instead of trying new things, they choose to hide. I don't live this way because I know I only live once and I need to make my life worth living, but I am aware of the struggles they face. That's just what I know as a "semi-outsider", peace bro ✌

@@davidbrayshaw3529 I got you! So I think the main reason that Gen Zrs are "hiding" is because of the pandemic. Now, for older people it might not seem like such a big deal, but the pandemic occurred at a crucial developmental period for a lot of Gen Zrs. As a result, many do not understand friend groups or have a sense of self. Many Gen Zrs developed social anxiety, depression, and phone/social media addiction. Because of this, many are too scared to leave their rooms because basic interactions cause them to panic. I also feel like parents these days are way too easy on their kids, which I really don't understand. I only see people my age at car shows featuring new cars, but other than that, they are MIA, but yeah, I totally understand what you're talking about.

Dude- seriously, how tall are you? Cruisers may not fit but check out some of the adv style bikes like a KLR, BMW-GS, Triumph Tiger, KTM, etc... lots of high seats and spacious seat-to-peg distance on them... I've had buddies 6'6" who ride this type comfortably.

@ianashmore9910 Gotcha. Look for a used KLR650. It'll be tall enough to work for you, and can be bought cheap enough. they've been made in 3 different generations since 1987ish... first ones were kinda square and went until like 2007. 2008 on was a more rounded bodystyle, but still pretty much the same mechanically as the earlier model... within the last several years is when Gen 3 got released and they updated the body a bit again and made them EFI... If you're looking for cheap but still reliable, I'd probably search for one of the Gen 2's from probably 2008 until like 19-20ish...

Don't rule out cruisers. My Son is 6'4" and loves his V-Star 950. There's plenty of ways to mount forward controls, and even extended forward controls on plenty of cruisers.
