Russian Arctic territories were actively developed by during Stalin's reign. Thousands of GULAG prisoners were sent to limitless tundra to built new cities and roads. One of the greatest incomplete Soviet Project known as "501 Railroad" was a part of the Transpolar Mainline that supposed to connect the remotest Siberian villages and cities with the USSR mainland. Nowadays, Transpolar Mainline partially operates. Here a regular passenger and freight service. I went straight to tundra to ride this one of the northernmost railway routes on our planet from Vorkuta to Labytnangi. Enjoy!

As i know and what i`ve seen from many google maps street views - southwestern USA consists of a several states and have diverse nature - so i didn`t understand in what type of natural environment you live - do you mind to tell me? Is it Nevada deserts, arizona canyons, california bushy forests? Cause it would be great to understand how west siberia looks like for a foreigner. I don`t live there, i live in the central part of the Ural mountains - where we have bushy forests, but i my aunt live in the Surgut - it`s not in the arctic region but it`s pretty close to it and the nature there seems more like in northern part of the west siberia (i`m saying west siberia, cause siberia itself is very big and different parts of it have different climate zones and views). So i`ve been there many times and we often get outside for a campings and i`ve never thought how this type of environment would look like to someone who live in a different conditions.

@@user-jp3wl4fg2h I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the western edge of the Rocky Mountains meets the Great Basin. We're at latitude 40°N, about the same as Madrid and Ankara, maybe more south than any place in Russia. We're a desert, so the temperature swings between extremes. Going west we have desert like Nevada, going east we have the Rocky Mountains. Our five national parks are all red rock desert. The nearest city to the latitude of Surgut in my part of the world is Anchorage, Alaska which is on the coast so the climate is moderated. The northernmost big interior city is Edmonton, Alberta, Canada which is roughly as far north as the central Urals. My friend Dmitry is from Moscow and says he has spent a lot of time exploring western Siberia so it sounds like fun.

wow thats a great video. love it ;) some questions: could u give more infos to the railway starting from obskaya? where does it go to? there is another railway to jamburg, its more in the east starting in novo urengoi.... do u know something about it? is there a bridge to salechard for trains already, or is it planned or under construction? i read it exists for cars only. is the line to nadym operating? would be great to see and hear more from u with respect to these lines and the current status of the railway system there.
@ivantrainsLIVE
@ivantrainsLIVE 2 жыл бұрын
1. Read Wiki: Obskaya - Bovanenkovo line. 2. Trains don't run to Yamburg, only short stretch of the line operates (Novyy Urengoy - Yevayakha). 3. There are no bridges over Ob to Salekhard (ferry works) 4. The line Salekhard - Nadym doesn't operate. Trains from Novyy Urengoy to Nadym run 1-2 times a week.

what do u know about the small Uralic language groups like Nenets, Hanti, Vogul? I heard that most of those languages are endangered and only a few speakers are alive
@postgradsibstud9321
@postgradsibstud9321 2 жыл бұрын
Nenets and Khanti are not endangered. There are plenty of speakers as well as money for teaching it in schools for natives. Vogul is endangered. The main threat for theese languages - locals dont want to learn it. It is easier to learn Russian and English to live outside the region. Most of such native people want to live in cities in good apartment with electricity,water,plumbing and Internet instead living in tundra in traditional way. Living in the city means to communicate with locals who are represented mostly by Russians. Thats why learning Russian is way important for them if you want to live outside your tundra.

@yoshkinkot9346

@borfer9366
@borfer9366 9 ай бұрын
Nonsense! Why write about every Russian road "built on bones", aren't you tired of it? Read the history of the Pechora Gulag. In labytnangi there is an information stand rolling in detail about this railway. There was a "privileged" Gulag here. That is, the rules of life very much hotter than in other camps. The prisoners themselves asked to come here, because in case of over-fulfillment of labor standards they could have been released earlier . Do not confuse it with the Magadan roads. So there were no "bones" here, stop lying
