Sabo not sure if you’ll see this comment but I’ve had these type of issues on 4 stroke motors. Usual culprit is the one way starter clutch behind the rotor. After time it wears down and it’s not always in a good position to grab the flywheel to spin it via the starter. Just some insight. 🤙🏼

As a ASE certified Master Automotive Technician.. I have built alot of 4wheelers and I enjoy your channel, the decompress mechanism the button on the camshaft if it doesn't compress when the cam spends it will not "decompression " that button has to move freely and has to protrude out and not be Warn down worn down . I seen the aftermarket camshaft button are not better so I use the oem

The reason putting 24 volts to it is making it start is with the higher voltage it's spinning the starter faster which compensates for the slippage of the starter clutch but eventually it'll just keep slipping more and more and more till it won't even turn over at all with the electric start

@m4rshmellowking8068 ай бұрын
Mike, I've noticed this from watching you ride for a long time. You tend to blip the throttle a lot. By this I mean its on off on off on off. Part of being a better more consistent rider is learning to move with the terrain and keep a more constant and steady throttle. Kind of the same way you learn to drive a car. Give it a try the next time you go riding. Not to mention its better for the machine too.
@onlyfords698 ай бұрын

I've also heard that it makes a big difference if you use the clutch every time you start a Raptor 660 rather in gear or not it helps the one-way bearing in the starter last a lot longer I noticed the difference with my 660 when I started doing it and yes 660s had pretty good torque that's what I like about mine when I had it it seemed like you almost didn't even have to downshift I think it makes one of the easiest ATV to use to train people how to use a clutch I started out with my 9-year-old daughter learning how to use a clutch and she only stalled it once or twice and then she got the hang of it quick

Replace the one-way starter clutch and the torque limiter gear and you should have your problem fixed throwing 24 volts at the starter isn't a long-term solution because you're just going to go through starters twice as fast at least so I had this problem with my LTR 450 I did everything I replaced batteries and this that starters everything else and it ended up being the one-way starter clutch or one-way bearing whatever you want to call it sometimes it can also be the torque limiter gear the gear that drives from the starter to the starter clutch sometimes that can start turning on itself both gears are supposed to be solid to each other but if you take a pair of pliers and hold one side and you're able to turn the other side then it's definitely failing but usually you can buy it in a kit comes with the gasket the one way starter bearing the torque limiter gear and that gives you everything to fix it
@MichaelSabo8 ай бұрын
I will look into this - thank you for the info and tip
@kelleyfrazier39208 ай бұрын
It’s got to be something electrical or mechanical Michael. Since you put that 24 volt system on there you definitely shouldn’t be having that issue. Most of the time seeing that issue there’s either an electrical issue or your trying to compress liquid on the start whether it be a little gas, oil or coolant. If you didn’t want to get to involved in it you could always add a compressor release to get it turning over. I hope you get it figured out buddy it’s definitely a beautiful bike you built there.
