Thank you for the Video. In 1970, when i was 12 years old, i spend my holiday with my parents in Borth, visiting my aunt and uncle. They invited us to have a trip to devils bridge. I am from Germany and this was my first journey to Wales. I remember the trip, on a warm and sunny day with this little steamtrain, was very exiting.

What lovely memories. I think I was just about as excited as 12 year old you on this trip. Best wishes to you and thank you for watching 👍

What a super little railway, another of those hidden gems dotted around Wales. As always a great video, thanks for taking us along.

Great video! I went on this I think in 2008, when the station was slightly further down the line towards where the carriage shed is now. Looks like there's been a lot of investment in the terminus there and at the intermediate stops, which were looking quite bare from what I remember.

Yeah there was loads of investment. A railway that was certainly doing some great things. As you can tell, I really loved it! Thanks for watching 👍

Although Aber Uni was only founded in 1872, it is still the oldest university in Wales. Aber also has the National Copyright Library in Wales, which sits just below the modern campus at Penglais. This is a large campus which belies the older University building in town which now only serves admin functions for the university. Student population now is around 8,000, which is huge compared to the town, and contrasts with the 3,000 when i was there in the early 1980s.

Nice video, thank you. You are as stoic as I would be outside. My wife would say something else, but she would had opted for 1st class.

The Missus and I rode the VOR when we visited from Australia in 2022. What a lovely line, with spectacular scenery, though where it passes the dairy it was very on the nose. I’ll do it again one day for sure. Thanks for the video Johnny.

Love this video, Vale of Rheidol locos are based off 2 engines built by Davies And Metcalfe of Romiley, Greater Manchester, but sadly both are scrapped now.

Well done. Stunning! A gem! And you know I had never even heard of it. Lovely to hear you refer to the "young couple". Like the "betrothed" , not something you hear much today. Put together with Fridays video we had an excellent excursion. You make it look effortless but a lot of work goes into that illusion, I'm sure.

It is about 55 years since I last travelled on that line, but it is now too far away for me to reach easily since emigrating (to England). It looked cold in that open coach- The first class looked much more inviting. The scenery on the return journey did look different and better in my opinion, but you don't get the sound of the engine so much. I do like to hear the sounds of the journey, which is why your video is so much better than those who spoil it all with a music overlay. Excellent production.
@JohnnyHooverTravels
@JohnnyHooverTravels Жыл бұрын
Yes, I can see why the 1st class is attractive, but I had a base layer and a woolly hat so I was OK in the cold (but it was still pretty cold) - but nothing beats hanging out of the carriage. Obviously I have used music a bit myself, but I also agree that it is better to keep the natural sounds if you can - especially a ride like this where it's all about the chuffing and the clanking! Thank you so much for watching - I'm still new enough to this to still be knocked out when people enjoy what I do 👍

Yes, I think they like a bit of the attention to detail. The one's at Devil's Bridge were more of a portakabin affair. But no doubt they will get the treatment at some future date. Thanks for watching 👍

Enjoyed this JH! Been a long time since I was on the VoR - probably like you say in BR blue days when I was in the Rail Riders! Seems prices have gone up too. The first class carriage looked nice but I dare say that was a little more on the price too. Supplement?

I just looked up first class price and it is £52.80 rtn. Really should have mentioned that in the vid! Can't imagine ever wanting to leave the open sided coach - but I'm just a kid
