I finally got to ride Robert Urmosi's MX built Yamaha YFZ450R! It was super capable and I know with a lot more seat time I would be a lot more fluent on the machine. I do however miss the Raptor's torque every time I hop on a 450. This video also features Connors first real ride! He exceeded everyones expectations and is very eager to ride again. I cant wait to get him more seat time and to help him improve. There's several Florida vids coming yet!

You can really hear the difference between the peaky HP design of the YFZ vs the thumping, heavy hitting torque of the Raptor. Really curious what you thought of the precision bar clamps.
@PeteHager
@PeteHager 4 жыл бұрын
Michael Sabo I liked the smoothness of the set up. I wasn’t very happy with how I rode the YFZ. I wasn’t very fluent for the first little bit. I know exactly how my raptor feels and responds so I think I would get a better idea how the clamps work on my quad. Hopefully I can get a set by the spring

I can relate to Conner a lot in this lol. I'm 34 and just got my first quad an 09 LTZ400 last fall, learned to get around ok then within a month of riding it got a DS650 that terrified me but at the same time made me so much more comfortable on that LTZ lol. I cant wait for spring so I can get back out there.

Edward Huntley i started off at 30 on a 400ex and that was a great machine and i was a total noob on it couldn’t even wheelie 🤣🤣🤣 Well after years and years of practice i got the hang of things moved on to a kfx450r after that had like 4 or 5 of them and now i am on a YFZ450r and love it!
@cobrae
@cobrae 4 жыл бұрын
I'm hooked. I had never really ridden a wheeler at all before that. The LTZ had sat since 2011 with a dead ECU. I got it in like August last year and once I got a new ECU it fired right up. Not thinking I put it in second gear and let off the clutch. Was my first wheelie and almost my first lesson on always wear a helmet. I was super nervous on it barely getting it into 5th even. I bought the DS650 just because I wanted something for later and lets face it... It sounded freaking awesome, but man that thing is a blast on the trails and now that I am warming up to the DS the LTZ is so much more fun. I want one for every day of the week now I just wish we were allowed to run them year round here in Maine though it does get a bit chilly.

Hey buddy I just subscribed to your channel the other day my son and I have Raptor700r and we have had a 2013 YFZ 450 R It’s really hard to make the choice we had to change the sprocket so the 450 was a little better on trails so you’re not stalling when you start off or when you’re going to slow through mud but yes it’s a totally different animal it looks great but it’s really hard to Trailride and it sucks that it didn’t have reverse what I really want to make is a 450 body and frame and stuff a 700 R motor into it that would be the perfect machine I think because I like how the 450 is a little lower and wider 700 seem kind of tall and there’s a lot of handlebar shake while we are riding like lateral shake with the 450 never seem to have and it seems like you’re sitting lower well you know the difference but it would seem like there’s pros and cons to both machines that’s why I want to put them together once I do I will be sure and let you know maybe you can come take a ride it’s funny the 700 motor almost feels like it’s an electric motor because it instantly has power soon as you touch it The 450 is cool because it revs like a two stroke dirtbike almost I will miss that

I’m really happy with how the machine runs, it had a lot more top end power now. I have 3 years left on my extended warranty so I won’t be doing anything else on a power level. I’ll be doing more handling mods in the next couple months

It's amusing how most riders don't use a twist throttle on a quad. I have damage on the thumb caused by the thumb throttles and when changed to a regular twist throttle it works so much better and gives more freedom of movements. It requires adaptation but it's easy

Twist Throttles give me major Arm Pump...Hanging on for my Life and twisting throttle at same time, causes Arm Pump to the point that I don’t even trust that hand....can’t feel it...

@@tmonster1498 Your hand gets excited 🤣 It personal choice but it requires adaptation and it takes a while. What I defend is twist throttles are more practical with less damage on your body. I didn't like it at first but either I had no choice but to shift to twist and get used to it. After getting used I don't like thunb throttles anymore. But I know what you're talking about, if you train on a 450 you need to be careful yeah 😅

I haven't rode since the early 90s. Any opinions on a good machine to get? I'm not a little guy I'm 6-2 270. I don't really want a utility type quad and most of the stuff I would ride in is a material called chat. It is a substance like sand but more hard packed and it gets a bit loamy when it's dry but for the most part stays hard packed. I'm 50 so it doesn't have to be blindingly fast I just don't want a utility type

Hey Pete awesome video, are you thinking of going any wider on your quad ?
@PeteHager
@PeteHager 4 жыл бұрын
Ahsan Iftikhar I have spacers on my raptor so it’s 2 inches wider than stock. I hope to replace the spacers with a wider axle and longer a arms. I’ll probably aim for that 48 inch mark since 50 inches is tight for some trails

Pete, are you still running wheel spacers on your Raptor?
@PeteHager
@PeteHager 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Lee, I have the one inch spacers on the front still. The main drawback would be increase wear on wheel bearings. I’ve replaced them once already. The other big one is increased bump steer but that’s kinda mitigated with the steering stabilizer. I was hoping to have the Raptor suspension upgraded by this spring but have put plans on hold. I was gonna go aftermarket but may just do a revalve with longer arms as a more budget friendly upgrade

Do you think for a trail rider and also a racer is the yfz or the raptor better for that type of rider
@ononewheel7
@ononewheel7 4 жыл бұрын
Big Boi Fishing both can be fine for trails the raptor may be better out of the box being narrower for the trails as the yfz is a mx qud out of the box but will do just fine w taller tires for trails if your a series racer than setting up a yfz would be the better choice by narrowing it up and spending money on suspension!

I can't tell you which is better for bumps, but with my 2011 700r with the adjustable suspension, it absorbs the bumps pretty well. It all boils down to how you want to ride like Pete said in his video. That being said, you'll still get beat up if you get into really bumpy stuff

Obviously Robert quad is gna handle better w his suspension setup vs Petes stock stuff! The stock shocks are actually a great shock especially if you send them out for a revalve/respring for your weight while i have a long travel set up w fox shock i am still using the stock rear shock but it has been setup for me along w adding an xc link and it works really well for xc racing and riding and even handles mx just fine!
