I think George Lucas got the name Padme from "The Hero with a Thousand Faces", a book written by Joseph Campbell from which Lucas got many ideas for Star Wars. It was from the quote "Om Mani Padme Hum", which means "The Heart is in the lotus" or "the heart of the lotus". Something like that.
@anonagain4 жыл бұрын
Padme is Sanskrit for "lotus flower" - "Om mani padme hum" is the most common mantra in Tibetan Buddhism.

I mean, it's shitty to the original actor, but it does make a lot more sense.. That was the last form he had where he was heroic, the one he identified with, his body after that wasn't how he saw himself. Plus, when watched as all 6 movies it makes way more sense to bookend the final one with the actor we saw play him not some random dude we saw for 2 seconds.

I grew up in the era of the Prequel Trilogy. I remember a couple of years before TPM came out, they had the SW Special Edition which was shown in the movie theaters.....then the TPM comes out, and I watched it like 7 times that Summer. The OT is amazing, because it defines an era, but the PT era was a great time for Star Wars, too. The Clone Wars anime and series was epic! It was a great time for creativity, stories, comics, novels, and games. The movies got progressively better. I see flaws, but I also see things which really stand about about the PT which I appreciated about it, and I thought more about the good things than the flawed things. The OT is great, but not at all perfect. Not as flawless as the hyper-fanboys want you to be about it. The previous generation may have despised a lot of the PT, but the generation who lived through it loved it, until it became a fad to hate the PT. These clowns that want to remake the PT utterly disgust me. They don't know how to appreciate good things when they see it. They just knit pick it to justify what they want to believe in their minds. It's time for a new era in SW. Don't trample on another one which made a great contribution to the mythos and cultural interaction. Long live all of SW.

Alright, here's my positives of the prequels: 1. The Clone Wars series (both but especially the latter) 2. Ewan MacGregor as Obi-Wan 3. Qui-Gon 4. Christopher Lee as Count Dooku 5. Seeing Yoda fight 6. Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine 7. Duel of the Fates 8. Anakin Vs. Obi-Wan 9. Order 66 (once you've watched TCW) 10. CGI Yoda (hey it beats that crappy puppet they had in Phantom Menace) 11. Occasionally the political stories were interesting
@Depth2178 жыл бұрын
Oh for sure. Duel of the Fates is probably one of the best battle themes I've ever heard. Lee could make anything look good but yeah, Dooku on his own is pretty bland. They developed him a tiny bit more in The Clone Wars, like showing him in peril a few times and his attempts to overthrow Sidious.
@BeowulfNorther7 жыл бұрын
Nathan Snyder yoda fighting doesn't go against anything he stood for. he told Luke not to rush but the three times he fights is saving Obi Wan and Anakin from Dooku..so totally reasonable, when he kills the clone troopers who are enacting order 66, and when he fights the emperor.. none of that goes against his character at all, and Jedis can fight, hes just a goofy old hermit when he meet him in empire/jedi

Jedi has got some really good scenes in it, the fight and dialogue before the emperor is arguably the most dramatic scene in the trilogy, the battle in space is terrific visually as well. People can say what they want about the ewoks, and rehashing the death star, but the final scenes of jedi really pay off the whole trilogy, the father and son are reunited, the evil is driven out Vader, redemption, and loss. Great stuff.
@VaderTheWhite9 жыл бұрын

It still only indicates that the Jedi knights were around for over a thousand generations. They said that the Republic stood for a thousand years, as in it held together for that long. Therefore, it could have been around longer, and might simply have had trouble with corruption and instabilities before that time frame. But even in those times, the Jedi were guardians of peace in it.

In addition to what beardedartisan said (which is very true) Lucas did not direct ESB or RotJ, neither was he the primary screenwriter for either. ANH was good because of the wringer the script through with Lucas' filmmaking friends (including many uncredited rewrites), the collaborators who elevated it, and how hard it was to make. Back then Lucas realised he wasn't a writer and had no grasp of character or dialogue, and he sought the help he needed. He seems to have forgotten at some point.

I would even dispute the "anymore". Reading about the making of the original trilogy, it's clear how much influence other executives / artists had on those films and how they changed many of Lucas's original ideas for the better. The major problem with the prequels is that everyone was too afraid to stand up to Lucas and challenge his terrible decisions.

Did no one else notice these aren't the prequels? This is Episodes IV, V & VI (4, 5 & 6) the original films. The prequels are Episodes I, II & III (1, 2 & 3).
@corestone719711 жыл бұрын
Ahhhh OK I see that this is Riffs from the prequels which were placed on the original trilogy by the video maker. But still, making the title, 'Rifftrax vs Star Wars Prequels' says to me that the video is going to be the prequels. Just a bit confusing. I think, 'RiffTrax vs Star Wars (Prequel Riffs put to Original Trilogy Video)' would be a less confusing title.

@kalsikherensk84408 жыл бұрын
The reason the prequels failed was purely down to execution. George can form good worlds and overall narrative, but he's best not to actually direct actors in the 'talking' bits. Aside from execution [hell, with a bit of tweaking to his voice/get rid of the clumsiness and have him previously 'exiled' for maybe some scandal with boss nass's daughter, Jar-Jar could have been decent.], the prequels had not much to make them BAD movies. But on a less subjective note, anybody who thinks the holiday special is better than any of the prequels deserves to be thrown either to the sarlacc, or thrown into the mustafar lava lakes.
@BeowulfNorther7 жыл бұрын
Kal'sik Herensk yeah he's used to cg characters, so he just constrains the shit out of his actors to act exactly how he wants them too, without any wiggle room. your description is spot on, hes got a great imagination just don't let him direct. the prequels had a lot of cool stuff he just mismansged shit having full control without any checks and balances.
@corestone719711 жыл бұрын

Watching the original series with all of the crappy, unnecessary knowledge gained from the prequels is such a slap in the face. Why show R2D2 flying in a prequel when he couldn't in the original series? That would just generate a million plot holes. And come to think of it, Only C3PO had his memory wiped at the end of "Revenge of the Sith", not R2D2, and It's been proven that not only do people understand R2D2 perfectly well, but that he engages in active and complex conversation with them, so why the hell wouldn't R2D2 know who luke is? He was there when he was born and named, knows that he has the same last name of the same person (anikin) that he spend nearly two decades (I think) with, and lives in the same spot on the whole friction' desert planet where Anikin found out where his mother lived. Whoops!
@BlueEyedSexyPants10 жыл бұрын
Anakin, and R2D2, being Obi Wan's droid would know the importance of keeping it secrets from Luke. He'd been keeping the secret of the events surrounding their birth from Leia for years. We don't know this for sure, but when the rebellion needed it, it's possible that R2D2 was the one that told Leia about Obi Wan's ability to help and probable willingness to join the cause (though Senator Organa or anyone around back then is just as likely to have told her), thus starting the events of A New Hope. The point is that if Leia's parents could keep a secret about her adoption for many years, surely a droid could. As for flying, I don't know; maybe the fuel for his jets was scarce. They were in a war after all, and on the guerrilla side in fact.

monkeymouse Lucas put as much effort into coming up with names for his characters as he puts into farting. Green, Greedy alien bounty hunter? Call him "Greedo". Roguish loner character? Call him "Solo". Father of the hero, turns to the dark side? Call him "Dark Father". No, that's too obvious, how do you say "father" in German? Alien species with squid-like heads? Call them "Mon-Calamari". Kid becomes an orphan? Call him "Little Annie". Instructor talks about concentrating the mind and focusing and meditating and all that stuff? Call him "Yoga". No that's too obvious - change one letter, and no one will notice. Evil violent guy? Call him "Maul". And how does anyone know what Chewbacca's name is? He can't even for that sequence of sounds with his own voice. How can he possibly introduce himself and say, "My name is Chewbacca"? How can his name be anything other than "AAARRRRGGGGHHH!" The planet where the whole story ends? Call it "Endor". How about this other bad guy? Well, I'm as liberally biased as anyone else in Hollywood, so I'll name him after a couple of Republicans.
