Saw CRB probably close to ten times. They toured the Mid-Atlantic frequently. Neal always was accessible after the show (Chris disappeared) and every time was putting up his own gear. Would talk to you as he was tearing down. Huge respect for the man. Such a tragic loss. My wife attended his tribute concert outside of White Plains. We saw Circles six months after, and Adam McDougal was still emotional about it. Huge respect for him also.
@DirkKraushaar10 ай бұрын
My sister knew Neal and introduced me. He would always sit with us and chat after gigs until the bus left at CRB shows. On the off-times they had roadies, he would always excuse himself and go do it himself when he saw them mishandling his pedal box.. lol... What a good due, and so humble. CATS groove was unbelievable. Dan is no slouch on bass. EDIT TO ADD - Neal's music knowledge was unparalled... He shared some Spotify lists that were mind-blowingly good, most things I'd never heard before.

Back in the days of the Black Crowes, I had a nice relationship with the band. I was lucky enough to supply them with a number of guitars, and they were nice enough to sell or consign some of their gear to us when they got off of tour. I was lucky enough to spend some time at their rehearsals and partied a bit with them. While some artists are not exactly friendly, The Crowes knew their gear. I sold Rich a nice vintage Esquire and a '64 335 with the custom made plaque. Great guys, and they always hooked me up with tix for their shows. Got to see them from the front row several nights in a row when they did a bunch of East Coast shows featuring Jimmy Page. What a great band! Oh...also got to have a beer with Kate Hudson...Amstel Light....at 10:30 in the morning at SIR studios when they were nice enough to send a car to pick me up and bring some guitars over. Again, great guys to deal with.....

It was amazing...My wife said "what did you say to him, he didn't look away from you the whole time...." I said " we just talked about music...." maybe that's they key to getting him to talk....

The "New Grateful Dead" lots of custom guitars and equipment, quartz crystal frets, and lots of "you knows?"....so many times it leaves you exhausted and wondering..Neal Casal's explanation of his equipment demonstrates the Grand Canyon division between mortals and ordinary geniuses, guitar nerds and Albert Einstein's theories of relativity rolled into layman quantum physics x 5 squared to the tenth power.

These Klon Clones that get made in Hong Kong and Korea are great pedals. I've had one on my board for 7+ years, for the other high end OD's on my board, it's the Klon Clone that is always on it. It's not laughable at all, they really are very good and nicely put together inside.

"the more stuff you put into an amp the worse it will sound" after 30 years of playing I completely agree....
@TerminalPassage8 жыл бұрын
I agree to an extent but if all the pedals are wired good you shouldn't lose much if any tone, volume most definitely but a nice boost can fix that easily. I almost always play through 5-10 pedals at least with most off and don't notice any loss of tone aside from a slight volume drop. The pedals just need to be bypassed properly and you're good to go and even cheap pedals are now usually. Also the amount of cords you need to use to go through 10-20 pedals probably makes a bigger difference then the pedals when bypassed.

I still don't get how the built-in effect loop on the guitar works. I can see only 2 jack in/out so if I have to plug my guitar into a fuzz, like he said, and the come back to the guitar so I can send the signal into the volume control, like he said ... then I'll need a third way out to finally go to the amp. But I don't see 3 jack in/out. Am I missing something here?
@fenderbender24708 жыл бұрын
maybe it is a TRS jack sending on Tip return on Ring and routed back through the the guitar electronics then out through a standard output jack?
@josephbeamon81328 жыл бұрын
Correct. For an OBEL (on board electronic loop) system, The jack with nothing plugged into it is a TRS jack that would go to a splitter (A/B) box on the floor usually containing a buffer. He said his buffer was on the guitar, which is also an option. After the wiring for the switching on the guitar is done, the signal is routed to the tip side of the TRS cable. That feeds into the output jack (A) of the A/B box on the floor. Next the signal is routed through the entire pedal board and back to the input jack (B) of the A/B box. The signal then travels back up the ring side of the TRS cable. The signal is the routed to the Volume knob of the guitar and back to the second jack of the guitar which is a normal TS style jack and heads to the amplifier.
