RigExpert now Supports NanoVNA - HAM Radio - TheSmokinApe
In this video we take a look at the NanoVna and use it with RigExpert's AntScope2 to perform a quick analysis on a DBJ-2 J-pole antenna from ED Fong. We will perfom this analyst on a Windows 10 Home Edition PC, it is meant to be an introduction and a "quick start" type guide for NanoVNA and AntScope2.

I picked up a NANO VNA H4 10KHz to 1.5GHz from R&L Electronics for $60 and I love it. It's main difference is a 4 inch screen, and can analyze to 1.5GHz. I must say I have NEVER used an original NANO. The main complainant of the original seemed to be the small screen size and no protective case/enclosure. The H4 is enclosed in a ABS plastic case to protect the electronics, has 2 molded humps to protect the SMA connectors. Plus a larger 1950 mHa battery. I have approx 6 hours of use without a charge. Just wanted to let you know about the H4 NANO in case you want to look into it as it seems to have addressed the concerns of the earlier versions. I like being able to analyze higher frequencies. I used it to tune a 1090MHz antenna for ADS-B and it worked great. I installed and used NANO-VNA Saver for the first time after learning about it from you. What a difference using NANO-VNA Saver compared to using only the NANO device. The ability to preform a sweep and see multiple displays and results at once is a big time saver. Again thank you for making the video and explaining how to use and set up the software. You saved me and I'm sure many others tons of time. You do a great job explaining the software and all of it's in's and out's. The software worked out perfectly for me to tune my little 1090MHz ground plane. Seeing each parameter on its own graph instead of on a cluttered screen is a game changer. Sorry for the lengthy post. Just want to thank you for letting us all know about the software and how to use it properly. I'd still be tuning that little antenna if only using the NANO....lol Also wanted to mention the H4 version of the NONO VNA if you want to check it out and pass on the info to your viewers. It's a great little device and I think the improvement have really hit the mark for the NANO's.

Nice Job Ape! I just received my NanoVNA -H and followed your steps in the video. I too had the calibration issue with the AntScope2 software. I did the manual cal on the NanoVNA and hooked up my dual band ladderline J-pole antenna to it and got a good trace of the SWR on both 2m and 70cm. Thanks for this entire playlist on the NanoVNA. So, I assume you still like the NanoVNA-Saver software better, so, that will be my next download and play session. TNX again Sir! 73, phil KF6IF

great video watching from across the pond this is how I got the calibration to work and got same results on vna don't know if this is correct but here it goes tick the calibration box near the freq settings go into setting and start calibration on each setting but hit the start button 5 times for each off open ,short and load then you will get a message saying calibration complete for the range that you set you can then save the file to PC for each off the freq settings made I did 160-40-40-20-28-6 meter bands plus one 1-100mhz I have checked each result against the vna and they are virtually identical as i say don't know if this is correct just starting as a new ham (foundation) in the UK but hope this helps 73s M7FRA

For the calibration to work decrease the data point number. Drop it down to 100 or 200 max. The Calibration Wizard works fine on mine at 100 points.

Ape, its been a while since you uploaded this video. Does the new 1.1.4 version of the software address the calibration problems? Also now I hear there is a QT software for the NanoVNA. I just ordered my first NanoVNA SSA-2N because I preferred the N connections and larger screen. Now that its been almost a year since this video, is the preferred software still the NanoSaver? Thx for the great videos.
