Rigging the Choppo for BETTER HOOKUPS

‪@AlexRuddFishing‬ and ‪@RiverBasserDrew‬ set me on a course recently to find mechanical advantages to land more bass on the ‪@berkleyfishing‬ Choppo. Some replacement hooks and the right custom ‪@BatsonEnterprises‬ custom rod have made a difference early on in my Choppo fishing. There will be some more experimentation with rigging to get them into the net. Interesting hook with built in swivel. It totally makes sense what you are suggesting to cut down the throwing leverage of the bait.

Man nobody does better at explaining things than you Jeff. Got me some scented jerkshads and can’t wait to fish them. Just moved to Alabama so working on getting DL switched over then getting my fishing license here. Planning on getting me a kayak soon and going to rig it with boondox gear. The Choppo is definitely a better Topwater bait. I have been adding a swivel to the front hook for a few years now. It really helps

Just finished up a float here on the Monoca…. I mean… River X.. 😅 River has cleared, fish were crushing the color black today below. Top water turned on late, plopper produced. Question I have for you is, Don’t you get tired chucking that Choppo on the spinning rod? I love my stradics for finesse, but can’t imagine covering top water on spinning setup, even with a moderate action. Great video today!

I feel that I have better control and can place it in tighter spots with the spinning rod. The moderate action loads and launches the bait well. I’m not pushing it the way I do with a fast action rod.

The Rod Box. Suggested MSRP? Mounting capability?

MSRP isn’t set just yet, but somewhere in the $1,400 range. Mounts to all sorts of things with a squared off U-Bolt - roof racks, a set of cross bars for truck beds that we have coming out soon, trailers, etc. There will also be a lower price point option coming as well.

Thanks Jeff! I’m not sure if that phone number is a cell number but I sent a text about the blank and the landing gear I ordered from boondox. I accidentally ordered the standard kit for my rvr 119 and I meant to order the track kit. I am trying to reach someone at boondox before they ship it to save the hassle of shipping back and forth. I sent an email to the service center to notify them.

I missed why you switched to the choppo? I have both but have caught a lot of big fish on the WP.

I forgot to cover that. I’m really just comparing the 120/130 size. The Plopper is cylindrical. The Choppo is more lightbulb shaped. I feel that there is more sideways slide (towards the hook) in the jaw upon impact with the lightbulb shape.
