Cool video, always enjoyable to see you guys and your sailing adventures, sorry to hear you mistakenly anchored in Mosquito Bay out there! Smooth sailing and fair winds/following seas to you both, and thank you for this episode! ⚓⛵🚤

Thank you for the lesson, I am wondering how you will be putting a Dodger on the Alberg and if you will incorporate some sort of water collection system in it. I am thinking you will really enjoy having a tiller rather than the wheel. I kinda decided to put the Alberg 30 I was looking at off for a year. After realizing my Ericson 25 is almost ready for a summer of sailing and the Alberg may not be. Plus having a centerboard, and a folding rudder will allow me to sail where most others can't. Great boats and I am certain I will be sailing one soon. But it's just not the time for me to upgrade.

We’d love to put a hard dodger on both our boats. We’ll hopefully be building in a rain catchment system! The Alberg 30 will wait for you :)

From an old Sub sailor, you're in the sonar shack 🙂

Something that really intrigues me based on something you said in this episode: how much heel would you guesstimate did the weight aloft savings from the synthetic rigging affect you? Considering all things being equal (point of sail, how much sail aloft, etc.) Would it be as much as 15 degrees close-hauled in 15 knots of wind is now only 10 degrees of heel, or only a degree or two? I've heard this talked about but would really like some practical experience on how much impact it has had for you? Thank you very much for your fun, informative channel!
@RiggingDoctor
@RiggingDoctor Жыл бұрын
Herby may be able to provide more specific numbers, but I can tell you that when we were steel, we regularly heeled 20 degrees in 10-15 knots of wind. Now, it takes 25-30 to get us to heel that much and in 10-15, we MIGHT hit 10 degrees of heel.

@@RiggingDoctor that's a pretty impressive difference (I realize it's subjective), definitely more than I would have assumed. I can only imagine ride comfort and the abilty to carry more sail improved as well. Thank you for your answer!

I was wondering what length of time could expect to spend going down the ICW if I only stop each night to get 5 to 6 hours of sleep from New Jersey to Florida. I’ll be using my diesel with a little assist from time to time from my sails.

We aren’t really the best people to ask…but you could just calculate the number of nautical miles you’d be going with your projected speed.

Is this Pamlico Sound? I've got a little sailboat and want to haul it out to the coast. That looks like a good amount of room to get your sail on. Can you just drop a hook wherever, no regs?
@RiggingDoctor
@RiggingDoctor Жыл бұрын
As long as you are not in the channel and the anchor can reach the bottom with adequate scope, you can anchor anywhere you want! The deepest we have anchored in is 60 feet of water with 300 feet of chain (5:1 scope). Anything shallower than that we can safely anchor in, but it’s nice to find places that are in creeks or rivers where the anchorage will be much calmer. It’s gorgeous in there, you will love it!

Those wretched vile horrible mosquitos, it would be great if they were on the extinction list. They are the deadliest creature on earth, as they kill about 700,000 people a year., as well as dogs and livestock. In Mexico, we were trapped inside our boat because of No see ums, another nasty insect. I'm so in love with your parrots, I could watch them for hours, their feather colors are so striking, so beautiful.
