I've been a guitarist for 28 years and a pro for 20, graduated from Berklee, and have mostly focused on my original music and jazz. About a year ago I decided to learn classical guitar, and you've been very helpful in my process. I bought your technique book, some of the music from your site, the Cordoba C12, a few other books, and have been making steady progress. I've watched a lot of your videos, and wanted to say thank you for being so helpful. In case you might be inclined to make these videos, I'd be interested to know what you think are 20 or so compositions every classical guitarist should eventually learn, cover some more of the Giuliani right hand exercises (especially the last 20), and tips about playing in the highest positions. Either way, keep up the good work!

I would like to echo this - I am not a professional musician but I am a competent guitarist and bassist, and decided I wanted to play classical too, a year ago. I found that all my years or hard work on steel and electric translated into something like grade 3 classical, but I have had to change my left and right hand technique a lot and I would say it is a very different instrument! Your videos have been extremely helpful and I’m making good progress but, just like I spent years learning how to make a plectrum do what I wanted and sound how I wanted, right hand technique is such a complex discipline! I have built up a list of about 10 pieces that I try to play as often as possible, and a lot of them are grade 2 or 3 standard because I feel I learn a lot from listening to the ways in which I am inconsistent with them.

I first started learning classical guitar from a series of lessons on the PBS station years ago. From then on I have been constantly learning. These video tutorials have been very helpful as I continue to learn. The piano and violin were the only formal music training I had.

Piano and violin are the perfect two instruments to study beforehand. The piano gives you such solid foundations in music theory and layout and the violin such expressive capacity. Happy practicing.

why you don't play buté in french or apoyando (sorry for my english) ?
@Thisisclassicalguitar4 ай бұрын
You can play with either but it really depends on the repertoire you are playing. Sometimes rest-stroke is not appropriate for the situation. For example, if arpeggios are sustaining, sometimes a rest-stroke can mute out the string below.

I'm surprised that you don't show any appreciation for all these positive comments.

Thanks for watching. I do try to put in at least an hour a day answering comments (I have hundreds of videos) but I usually try answer the questions first. I do appreciate everyone commenting!
