I demonstrate k2tog and ssk for left-handed continental knitters. I explain how they lean left or right and how to use each when following a pattern written for a right-handed knitter. I also discuss why it matters.

There is one rule I learned from my teacher that is still important: When doing a decrease, whether two stitches or more... the rule applies -- You need to decide which stitch is going to be on top. One stitch always is! The needle goes into THAT stitch first.... always. Keep that forefront, and you will never ever go wrong! Try it... you'll see. Works for right- or left-hand knitters.

What about the s2k1psso double decrease?

Wow you are so talented! I still consider myself a very novice knitter and have had such a hard time finding KZbin channels that help a left handed knitter. I can't quite knit continental because it feels too weird so I'm an English style knitter (I know it's not the quickest way but I'm grateful I was able to figure out as much as I have without any help!) I've yet to use a pattern because it just feels too daunting (I've only made hats and scarves and "winged it") but one day I hope I can be like you. If you ever have any time to make another video knitting English style I would very much appreciate it! Thank you for this video!

As a child I taught myself to crochet and then to knit using a right handed book. Continental is the most comfortable for me because I also crochet. If you learned to crochet the continental method would be easier. The yarn movements and tensioning are similar. I have a video teaching that for lefties. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3fdm3yGbbSGras

@@justnorthofthebend9152 thank you! I've heard that people who crochet are more comfortable knitting continental. I used to crochet but I really prefer knitting but I think I'm going to need to relearn how to crochet!

Why do you knit all the knit stitches through the back loop? I'm a leftie knitter and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be doing that.

The leading or trailing leg of a stitch can be on the the back or on the front depending on how the stitch was created and whether you are knitting back and forth or in the round. We knit and purl through the leading leg unless we want a twisted stitch. You will see in the video that sometimes the stitch is reoriented for ease in knitting. I pick my stitches so they are always oriented the same way. If you are knitting some other way the orientation is determined by the way the yarn is wrapped. Maybe I should do a video on reading your knitting and how different knitting techniques affect the stitch legs orientation.
