Bill Medley is the bass baritone, Bobby Hatfield is the tenor with a 5 octave range. Nobody does it better then them!!!! Bill is still performing in his 80's, we lost Bobby in 2003. I saw them when I was a teenager. I still have the pictures and I am 61 now. Great memories!!!!

Yes and rightfully so. In this age of electronic masking and auto - correct, all these guys used was simple reverb. The rest was their incredible talent. Their music reaches into the souls of the listeners. I don't care what your ethnic background is, or what color you are. We all need love! The Righteous Brothers and other truly great singers, pour it out! It leaves us wanting more! More Love! That's what the world needs.

“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 88 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin” was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century. "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965. Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby's use of "Runs" is brilliant. He is the master of the technique and started the trend. 7 notes just to say the word "I".... Their name came when they did a show in a smaller venue and a black man told them…. You two Brothers are Righteous. They created the sound and set the table that all Soul Music fed from for decades to come. In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin’ Feelin‘" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......

The great but quirky producer Phil Spector took the video from a show called Shindig, which was good but Spector wanted to produce a Wall of Sound. He used multiple numbers of the same instruments, laid down backing tracks over the instruments and then made the singers do it multiple multiple times Until he was happy that they had matched the video exactly. Took far longer than anybody had ever done to produce a 45rpm record but this was probably the greatest record he ever produced. BTW Bill Medley, the tall dark one is a bass baritone. Bobby Hatfield was a first tenor. But each of them had incredible ranges in between that sometimes made them sound like a quartet.

When this was a hit in 1964, I was 10 years old. Yeah, I'm so old, that I remember when dirt was invented. That wasn't actually live. They were lip-syncing to the record that was recorded in the studio. If it was live, they would need a much larger studio to film it in. They producer, Phil Spector, would have one group of musicians play, then another group and so on. He would also have the background singers lay down several tracks, and finally mix it the way he wanted. This is like a music video on MTV,
@tracerloenan8020
@tracerloenan8020 3 жыл бұрын
Gary. I hate to disagree, this was a live performance on TV. The backing track was recorded and played back to live singing. That was a requirement TV shows put on singers during this time. Phil Spector worked with what was called A Wagnerian "Wall of Sound". Although it sounds like a large orchestra, Phil used overlays of just the instruments used in popular music. Like Six guitars playing the same thing five or six time and then overlying one track over another. Then a group of drummers would do the same thing - and so on. Like Quincy Jones, he was one of the best producers and mixers ever.
@garylangley4502
@garylangley4502 3 жыл бұрын
@@tracerloenan8020 Yes, I have enjoyed the "Wall of Sound" on his records. Back then, a lot of singing on TV was lip-sync, for one thing the producers could pay the singers less for an appearance, but also the TV studios were not as acoustically the same as the recording studios, particularly Gold Star Studios where this was recorded. This video is not nearly as good quality as the original recording, because of the quality of video taping back then, but if you listen to this, you will hear that the vocals are exactly the same, except that they are clearer. This is a feast for the ears. The video is lip-syncing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpPKYpqhjMdjjdE
@allmusicservices
@allmusicservices 3 жыл бұрын
@@garylangley4502 You are absolutely right. Not only is this the recording exactly as I remember it (yes, I'm that old), but the vocals are, as you say, IDENTICAL to the commercial recording, which you can hear, if nowhere else on KZbin, on the soundtrack of the movie TOP GUN, here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3jGiIufn8SfY8k And there *are* other examples of singers lip-synching to their records on the variety shows of the day, including several by--off the top of my head--the Mamas and the Papas, on KZbin.

The video you reacted to was the but they remade the song in the 90's after the success of Unchained Melody in the Ghost movie. This video is not really live either as someone has overdubbed audio of them singing in the studio, while cleaning up the video. This is the actual video kzbin.info/www/bejne/npusipaanLesqM0 if your interested. Great Reaction! This song is always great.

Yes, exactly! That is a problem. Everyone is reacting to this one, but the real audio from the live version is just as good. Sure, Phil Spectors studio magic with the "wall of sound" is awesome, and can't be replicated live obviously, but this live version is fantastic on its own, including the ridiculous girls in the audience screaming 😄. There is a higher quality version than the one you linked to though. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmTMhIigfcaIrrs

Just listened to the other version. Should have known there would be lots of teenage girls screaming in the background 😀

@@donnam5891 It was sort of obligatory in those days it seems. Seems like a live performance in those days was incomplete without the screams 😆

Unchained Melody is great too. It just the guy with the blonde hair but he's a singing fool.

Spotlights were off, then they turned them on, that is how you never saw the background singers and then you saw them again lol sometimes the most basic effect is just what is needed.
