The last few high notes Bobby hits in this live performance are not sung on the studio record version. This live version is actually better than the studio version. That makes his live performance even more rare because with most singers their live performance is not as good as the studio version.

This live performance by Bobby Hatfield is an embellished version of the studio recording. His splendid falsetto tag here is not on the record. You hardly ever hear a song sung live that outshines the record. They don't make 'em like they used to.
@brblanch76 ай бұрын
There was NO Falsetto, not even one note, sung by Bobby in this song. He had a 4 octave voice range, & as you can clearly see on that last note, he sang it with a level of smoothness that you don't see when someone switches to falsetto.
@Steve523446 ай бұрын
@@brblanch7 And what 'expert' told you that? He sang that entire extended melisma tag "to me" in a rich falsetto, not just the "last note." You're obviously NOT a singer nor know much about voice. Talk to a knowledgeable vocalist and get hip.

This song was written for a prison movie titled 'UCHAINED' (1955). It was first sung in the movie by African American opera singer, theatre and film actor Todd Duncan. It was composed by Alex North (1910-1991) and lyrics by Hy Zaret (1907-2007). Since 1955 this song has been sung by recording artist from around the world. Making it one of the most loved, and recorded songs in music history. In 1965 on the 'Andy Williams Show.' Bobby Hatfield of 'The Righteous Brothers' gave one of the greatest live performances in television history. His epic performance cemented his rendition of 'Unchained Melody' as the quintessential version of them all. And ever since 1965 his version is the one every recording artist has used, and uses to this day. The rest as they say is history... Great reaction!.

This is a great song, was featured in the movie Ghost, and peaked at #4 in the US in 1965. But to me, if you are new to the Righteous Brothers, your first reaction needs to be You've Lost That Loving Feeling. First, it features both members of the duo (Unchained Melody is a solo for Bobby Hatfield), the harmonies produced by Hatfield's high tenor voice and Bill Medley's deep baritone are legendary. Second, it was featured in the movie Top Gun and the TV show Cheers (the running gag was that if you wanted to get Rebecca, the character played by Kirstie Alley, in bed, all you had to do was play/sing a few bars from Loving Feeling and she just melted!). And third, it was THE most played song on American radio and television in the 20th century. Here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4DRioxvgtxlfMk

THE RIGHTEOUS BROS WRE BOBBY HATFIELD AND BILL MEDLEY (UNRELATED) BILL WAS BETTER SUITED TO THE LOWER REIGISTER WHILE BOBBY HAD A GREATER VOCAL RANGE. I HAVE HEARD MANY OTHER VERSIONS OF THIS SONG, BUT BOBBYS VERSION IS THE BEST IN MY VIEW THE VOICE WAS SOFT, BEAUTIFUL, SOUL GRABBING AND ROMANTIC. ALL THE GIRLS THAT HAVE SEEN THIS VIDEO WERE 'TOUCHED' BY HIS VOICE IN THAT 'DREAMY' WAY SADLY WE LOST BOBBY IN THE EARLY 2000+, BECAUSE HE HAD A TRULY GOOD VOICE AND 'MOVIE STAR' LOOKS.
